Taxi Driver (1973)
Here is an early 70's album from OP. There are some pretty good songs here. He had Krishna Kalle sing one of the songs for the first time for his movies. Also, there are couple of other new singers; Ambar Kumar and Badri Prasad. At least they are new to me.
One of the songs "Baalam Harjaaee" is six minutes long in the album. However there are two completely different songs in this with a gap of nearly 10 seconds. I decided to separate them into two songs. One of them is "Baalam Harjaaee" and the other one is "Yahaan Chiragh".
Here are the details of the songs and the songs themselves ...

Heera Moti (1979)
Here is an OP album from post-Ashaji era. Here he has Dilraj Kaur singing all the female songs. Surprisingly, she does sound, at least on occasion, like Ashaji. May be she was trying to imitate Ashaji's voice or may be she was instructed to do it by OP.
Rafi Saab who was dropped by OP from some of his movies after a dispute with him is back co-singing three songs here.
I think these songs never got their proper due because the album was released during the tumultuous times of OP's famous split with Ashaji (or vice versa). Inevitably people were comparing, however unfair it was, how Dilraj Kaur sounded different from Ashaji.
Now for the details of the songs and the songs themselves ...

I was eagerly awaiting for this album. IMHO, Dilraj Kaur has done good justice to the songs, but the inevitable comparison to Asha ji overshadowed the talent. I think the producer Ratan Mohan stood by OP sahab when he was deserted by Asha ji and again IMHO OP sahab has given great music for this album.
Big thanks for posting these in CDQ.

Mujrim (1958)
Here is a movie made by F.C. Mehra of Eagle Films. This was the first of several movies Shammi was associated with Mehra. I think this was the last movie OP provided music for a Mehra movie. Mehra swicthed to Shankar-Jaikishan after this movie and the team made several successful musicals. The switching happened not becausae Mehra wanted it, but Shammi insisted on it. More on this in Shammi's topic on SKS at proper time.
Ragini, the youngest of the Travancore sisters, made a few Hindi movies. She was the heroine of this picture. Even though it was out and out a Shammi's film, most of the songs were picturized on Ragini using her dancing talent as the backdrop. So most songs are female vocals.
Incidentally, the Eagle Films banner is still alive. It is run by Mehra's son. In the late 80's he made a movie with the same title "Mujrim" but not with the same story.
There are eight songs in this album. Some are from different CD collections and others are from tapes. Therefore you will find their quality not uniform. With that warning, here are the details of the songs and the songs themselves ...

Basant (1960)
This film was looslely based on the 1957 English movie "An Affair To Remember" starring Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant. American Film Institute voted this Hollywood movie as "the most romantic film of all time". However, this movie itself was based on another Hollywood movie of 1939, "Love Affair", starring Irene Dunne and Charles Doyer. There was a third version also made by Hollywood in 1994 with the same name "Love Affair". It starred Annette Being and Warren Beatty. Also, a year before this, the 1993 movie "Sleepless In Seattle" starring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks was inspired by the same movie.
If Hollywood made this movie this many times, Bombay Hindi film folks were not far behind. Apart from"Basant", Manisha Koirala and Aamir Khan starrer "Mann" released in 1999, was also had the same source for inspiration.
The movie "Basant" is a celebration of music. It contained 14 fun and frothy songs! O.P. Nayyar was at the top of his game and almost all of the songs were part of the hit parade. All songs were sung by either Ashaji or Ashaji with Rafi Saab except for a brief (43 seconds) title song that sounds more like that of Manna Dey rather than Rafi Saab. But I may not be correct about this. If anyone can identify this voice, please kindly do so. Nine of the songs are duets with Rafi Saab. Another is a triplet where S.D. Batish joins the twosome. Ashaji had three solos.
Nutan looks ravishingly beautiful in this movie. She was best known for her sensitive portrayals but the light side of her hasn't been fully exploited except possibly by Dev Anand (in movies like "Baarish", "Paying Guest", and "Tere Ghar Ke Saamne").
The songs of "Basant" came from CD compilations, DVD and other resources. Almost all songs have exceptionally good quality. You will enjoy these beautiful songs in such a good quality. I am including an extended version of "Chori Chori" with these songs. This came from the Forum members. This song is really not an extension but juxtaposition of two parts of the same song. In the movie these are two separate duets (Nutan and Shammi for one duet and Nutan and Johny Walker for the other). I am uploading these two anyway. It may not be necessary for you to upload this combined version.
Now for details of the songs and the songs themselves ...

Akalmand (1966)
Here is another mid-60's album by OP that has some beautiful songs. With the success enjoyed in only few movies he worked with Kishoreda, one expected more from the combination of OP and Kishore. But that never realized. Somewhere I read that this was because both had very strong personalities and their egoes came in the way to work more together. Thankfully, in the few films they worked together, they delivered some beautiful songs.
Some of the songs came from various CD collections. The others came from various sources like tape. Therefore, you may find the quality to be not that uniform even though none of them is bad to listen to. Now for the details of the songs and the songs themselves ...

HumTum ji,
Technically you are right. The song begins with some chuckles and silliness that belongs to Kishore da, I believe. There after, the song in its entirety is sung by Rafi Saab. Also, Earthmusic gives this as a duet of Kishoreda and Rafi Saab. I don't mind changing it to Rafi Saab only, but my information was based on the above.

Dear Swarapriya,
I have been on HF for a long time but have been a very infrequent visitor of late. One of the biggest rewards of my return - and a key contributor that has kept me coming back over the past few weeks - has been your uploads. The care you take over the audio quality, the trouble you take to supply detailed information about the films/songs, and your unflagging enthusiasm (shown most clearly in your absolutely incredible upload/download ratio!) have enriched HF. Thank you for all this!
I discovered this thread late but was thrilled to discover that may of the earlier uploads are still available. My collection of O P Nayyar songs has zoomed overnight!

A few points about some of the songs/films that have come up in this thread:
- In 'Sone Ki Chidiya', the nazm "aaj kii raat bahut garm havaa chalatii hai" was written by Kaifi Azmi and not by Sahir. Exon asked whether it was recited by Kaifi Azmi; I am not sure, but it *does* sound like his voice. Interested listeners can decide for themselves by comparing the voice to the 30-second Kaifi Azmi recording from 1969 that I am uploading below. (A later recording of the same nazm in Kaifi's voice is also available in the album "Kaifiyat" which has him reciting his own poetry, but I don't have that album readily available right now; also, that is a recording made much after he had had a stroke that made his voice much deeper and much more gruff, so it may not be an apt comparison point anyway.)
- Re. "chal akelaa" from 'Sambandh': OPN is quoted (in a Marathi article by the journalist Ambarish Mishra) as saying that he took Mukesh for the song at Asha's specific recommendation. He said he didn't normally use Mukesh but that Asha suggested that he would be right for this song; OPN says he was very happy with the result. He also says that Pradeep had suggested a tune to the song and wanted to sing it himself; OPN had to fight with the producer to use the tune and the singer of his (OPN's) choice.
- The lyrics of the mukhaDaa of the 'Basant' song "ham ne unake saamane pahale to kha.njar rakh diyaa" are identical to the prelude of the song "chaahe to moraa jiyaa lai le" from the 1966 film 'Mamta'. 'Basant' - which came six years earlier - had lyrics by Qamar Jalalabadi; the lyricist for "Mamta" was Majrooh Sultanpuri. Given that Majrooh asked Faiz for permission before using just one line - "terii aa.Nkho.n ke sivaa duniyaa me.n rakhaa kyaa hai" - from a Faiz nazm, one assumes he must have taken permission from Qamar too before using these lines.
Once again, thanks for your immense contribution to the forum!
Warm regards,
Abhay
Click to view attachment(This snippet is taken from the album "Mirza Ghalib - Portrait of a Genius". This album was brought out as part of Ghalib's death centenary commemoration. Kaifi Azmi read out extracts from Ghalib's prose writings as a prelude to the ghazals sung by Begum Akhtar (2 ghazals) and Mohammed Rafi (6 ghazals) under Khaiyyam's baton.)

Hi,
I do not remember from where I had downloaded this nazm "aaj kii raat bahut garm havaa chalatii hai" few years ago. As per this file, the nazm is recited by Balraj Sahni. Somebody can listen and confirm whether it is so.

Kabhi Andhera Kabhi Ujala (1958)
Here is another beautiful album from OP. This one stars my favorite lady Nutan and the inimitable Kishore Kumar. Almost all songs from this movie were popular. Yet, I found it difficult to secure all the songs. The songs I am uploading are not complete. They came from various CD collections and some of them from the Forum members themselves. The quality of almost all songs is from very good to excellent.
There are eight songs in this movie and I am uploading six of them here. The missing ones are shown in red italics in the table below. I am requesting the Forum membership to share these missing songs if they have them.
Kishore da's "Surma Mera Nirala" was a chart buster. It still adorns any number of his CD compilations. Rightfully so. Only Kishore ji could sing such songs, yodelling and changing voice so many different ways. There are four solos by Ashaji, her usual quota for a typical OP album. As usaually the case, she always gives her best for OP. But for me the standout song of the album is the duet of Ashaji with Manna Dey "Baahon Ko Zara Lehraa Do". It was done very beautifully and stays lingering with you for a long time. I don't recall too many songs Manna da sang for OP. Can anybody please throw some light on this?
Now for the details of the songs and the songs themselves ...
