Baiju Bawra (1952)

Baiju Bawra's music was a milestone in the film industry. It may be the most magnificent music ever composed for a film. In every song there is genius of Naushadji. In every word there is richness of lyrics by Shakeel Badayuni Saab. And there was Rafi Saab's most magnificent voice elevated to a stage that nobody ever heard before or since. The music that takes you on a journey to worlds never seen before; sweet, melodious, and heart warming.

I am not an expert at classical music but the Internet Encyclopedia Wikipedia attributes the following ragas with some of the songs: Tu Ganga Ki Mauj (Bhairavi), Mohe Bhool Gaye Sanwariya (Bhairavi & Kalingda), Man Tadpat Hari Darshan Ko Aaj (Malkauns), Aaj Gawat Man Mero Jhoom Ke (Desi), O Duniya Ke Rakhwale (Darbadri), and Jhoole Mein Pawan Ki Aayi Bahar (Khamaj).

Lataji also was equal to the task by contributing some memorable numbers of her own rising to the level Rafi Saab elevated the songs for this movie.

Ustad Amir Khan who has a song in the movie was a consultant to Naushadji for this film. The movie won Filmfare best actress award for Meena Kumari and best music award for Naushadji.

All songs are from CD except smaller versions of "Tu Ganga Ki Mauj" and the extended version of "Man Tadpat Hari Darshan Ko." This is a contribution from the Forum membership.

Baiju Bawra is my favorite album and 'O Duniya Ke Rakhwale' my favorite song ever...Rafi sahab is divine in the song...infact thats the only constant in my favorite song list, the rest of which keeps changing with time!
I'm grateful you did the post, and did it so well...With your post, apart from the songs, its more about the write-up that you use as the prologue...do keep up the good work. And Congratulations!

Below I'm attaching a longer version of 'Aaj Gawat Mann Mero...' Apart from this, I was thinking of posting the videos here. I have a DVD but dont know how to seperate songs from it! As soon as I figure it out, I shall post them in this thread itself.
