Sharmilee (1971)
Here is an album in which SD really showcased Kishreda's talent to a maximum. He (Kishoreji) is at once contemplative and philosophical in that sweet and melodious song "Khilte Hai Gul Yahan." He is playful in the song "O Meri Sharmilee." He is heartbroken in the deeply touching song "Kaise Kahe Hum." Then he is romantic in the duet with Lataji in "Aaj Madhosh Hua Jaye." Burmanda knew how to extract the maximum from his singers. This one applies defintely more to Kishoreji.
Lataji also has two sweet solos in "Khilte Hai Gul Yahan" and "Megha Chhaye Aadhi Raat." Then there is Ashaji doing what she does best, deliver one more scintillating song in "Reshmi Ujala Hai."
Burmanda had five assistants helping him with the music for this movie. His health was frail and failing during this time. This may be the reason he depended heavily on assistants. Helping him arranging Burmanda's compositions were Basu Chakraborty, Manohari Singh, Maruti Rao Keer, Anil Mohile, and Arun Paudwal.
I am also enclosing two extra songs with this upload. Abhijit, an ardent fan of Kishoreji, in his private album "A Tribute to Kishore Kumar" sang "Khilte Hai Gul Yahan." I am including it here. Then Lataji, in her album "Lata in Her Own Voice - CD 1" tells a bit about SD and sings the song "Megha Chhaye." I am uploading this song as well.
Now for details of songs and songs themselves ...
