Dr. Vidya (1962)

Here is another gem from the vault of sweet treasure of music of Burmanda. There are some beautiful songs in this album. Lataji dominates with "Khanke Kangana" and "Pawan Diwane." Both are done in semiclassical mode. There is a long duet by Ashaji and Geetaji "Aayi Hai Dilruba." Mukesh gives another rare appearance for Burmanda.

All of the songs were penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri Saab. Assistant music director of the movie was R.D. Burman. There are supposed to be 10 songs in this movie. I have included only six here. Other ones I don't have. These are shown in red italics in the table below. If anyone of you have them I would appreciate sharing with us. These songs came mostly from different CDs and other sources. The extended version of the "O Jaani" is by the courtesy of the Forum members. A word of caution: because these songs were assembled from different resources, the quality may not be uniform.

Now for the details of the songs and songs themselves ...

Swarapriya, thanks once again. Based on what I have read, this was the movie from which Lata ji started singing for Burman da once again.

"Pawan deewani" is of course a very lovely song, but my personal favorite is "Jaani tum toh dole"



And of course "Aye hain dilruba" is a must hear ! A differently styled unique song, ending with funny words like "Pappa jamar lo.."

If anyone has an extended version of 'pavan diwaani' song, please upload it.
My audio (3:16min) is missing the 2nd stanza (haaye re uski bainyan...).
I notice that the video on U Tube is 5 min long. It is missing the 3rd stanza (akhiyaan tarse mori).
