Lajwanti (1958)

This was post-Raj Kapoor time for Nargis. A great actress she was, she was playing for the first time against another great actor, BalraJ Sahni. Nargis looked wonderful clad in white sarees with beautiful wide borders. This was even obvious in Balck & White! This trend Nargis started, later was carried on by Meena Kumari and to some extent Vyjayanti Mala.

SD continues to spin out one sweet song after another. Majrooh penned the lyrics. Geetaji had one beautiful song "Aaja Chhaye Kaare Badra." Ashaji had five solos, all extremely sweet and beautifully done. Like our fellow member Parag says, this was the time when SD and Lata couldn't see eye to eye and Ashaji made most of the opportunity. There is a song in this movie sung by Ashaji, "Ek Hans Ka Joda" that is like the one in Guru Dutt's epic "Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959)" done in siimilar circumstances. That song "Ek Do Teen ..." was done by Geetaji in that movie. Of course, both movies had the same music director, SD. Assistant music director for "Lajwanti" was Jaidev.

Now for details of the songs and songs themselves ...
