Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958)

Here is a movie that was fun to watch from the beginning to end. Dominated by Kishore and costarring his other two brothers and his future wife vivacious Madhubala, it was a riot the minute it started. Rarely a comedy was made on the Hindi screen that was done so well.

I know Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar acted in few movies together. Is this the only movie all three brothers acted together? If anyone knows, please share the information.

The movie boasts some of the most enjoyable songs. They are pleasing to hear again and again even after 50+ years after they were first released. SD and the lyricist Majrooh were in top of their game. R.D. Burman was the assistant music director. This was second go around for him after making his debut as an assistant in 1957 with Guru Dutt's classic "Pyaasa."

The duet "Haal Kaisa Hai Janaab Ka" was a perennial number one on Binaca Geet Maala week after week. At the end of the year, it was an easy guess that it was the No. 1 song for the entire year. My personal favorite is the song "Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhagi Si." These are the type of songs Kishore excelled in. It has so much sweetness going with it that it stays with you forever.
