Prem Pujari (1970)

This is another Nav Ketan movie. But this time there is no involvement of Vijay Anand. It is all Dev Anand. Not only did Dev wrote the story and had played the lead role in it but also he made directorial debut with this movie. This movie was a commercial failure. However, SD was there to provide its music. As usual, he is on the mark and delivers once more.

There are some beautiful songs in this album. All lyrics were penned by Neeraj. Kishoreda has a lovely solo in "Phoolon Ki Rang Se." Lataji is scintillating with her solo "Rangeela Re." There is a melodious duet by Lataji and Kishore Kumar, "Shokhiyon Men Ghola Jaaye." There are couple of patriotic songs sprinkled in the movie. But the song which is a real standout is the solo by Burmanda himself. "Prem Ki Pujari" is one of those richly crafted song in Burmanda's inimitable voice and unique style that it stays wth you forever.

Now for the details of the songs and songs themselves ...

Manzil (1960)

Back again here are the hot pair of Nutan and Dev Anand. Some of the best music provided by Burmanda. Some great lyrcs done by Majrooh Sultanpuri Saheb. Some great singing by Ashaji, Geetjai, Hemantji, Mannaji, and Rafi Saab. SD already put a stake on his name as the duet king. In this movie all duets exceed ones expetations. "Aye Kash Chalte Milke", "Chupke Se Mile Pyase", and "Dil To Hai Diwana" all are superb duets. Especially the first two. Then some great solos by Mannaji. Above all the heart wrenching song done by Hemantji "Yaad Aa Gayi." So many good movies were made that year that boasted beautiful songs (Barsaat Ki Raat, Bombai Ka Babu, Chaudhvin Ka Chand, Kala Bazaar, Kohinoor, Mughal-E-Azam to name a few). (Filmfare award went to Ravi for composing music for "Chaudhvin Ka Chand.")

Assistant music director for "Manzil" was Jaidev. Here are the details of the songs and songs themselves ...

Swarapriyaji,

Thanks a lot for the songs - Aye Kash Chalte milke and Dil to hai diwana na. I like the duet - Dil to hai diwana in particular. The music at the beginning of the song was so very appropriate for the scene in the picture wherein Dev Anand is seen running around in the Shimla Jungles with Nutan.

Thanks a lot.

Yasmin ji, its nice to suggest a correction, but it will be nicer if you don't make any comparisons between the artists. Rajinder Krishan ji has done immense contribution as a lyricist and dialogue writer to HF industry for decades.
