Hamara Forums > Legends > Legendary Music Directors > Ravi
Hari Ram
Dear fellow HF members,

It has been about 5 months since we worked on creating a filmography on legendary music composer Ravishankar Sharma. In this filmography we have sampled over 95% of his film music compositions.
I request all members to participate in this poll to pick their top ten albums. This is one of the ways we could appreciate and falicitate this great composer.

Along with your selections, you are encouraged to highlight your special songs from the albums. You are also encouraged to add any interesting notes and nostalgic stories about the movie from your childhood memories. Messages that are relevant to this poll topic are most welcome.

The entire album and song listing is available here.
http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?s=&a...st&p=413291
Please rank your album selections.
I would like to run this poll for about 4-6 weeks. At the end of the poll, I will summarize the results.

Before making your selection, if any member would like to listen any album again, please feel free to post your request as a separate thread or in Ravi's Filmography Thread. I will gladly upload your request.

Dear Shri Hari Ram Ji,

2. Nazarana
3. Choudhavi Ka Chand
4. Do Badan
5. Bharosa
6. Gumrah
7. Dilli Ka Thug
8. Ghar Sansar
9. Vachan
10. Chirag Kahan Roshani Kahan

Subhash G. Deo
Sangeet
1. Gumrah - I think Mahendra K has never sounded better than this.
2. Choudhavi ka Chand
3. Dilli Ka Thug- Love that insane C A T cat
4. China Town - Esp for Rafi # Baar Baar Dekho, Shammi K 's antics on screen makes the song even better (Song sounds O P Nayyarish though)
5.Waqt- All the songs are timeless
6.Hamraaz - Again I think Ravi has used Mahendra K to his full potential in his movies.. Love the Neel Gagan Ke taale & the preachy happy.gif" Na Munh Chupake Jeeyo"
7.Dhund- Mahendra K once again with his Title song.. The movie was one of the best suspense film that came out of Bollywood also.
8.Tawaif - Oh The Mujras ... Must be in JL's Fav list too tongue1.gif
9. Dahleez - Again Greeeeeeeeeeeeeat songs esp Mahendra K Asha Duet.....Tum Aaye to
10 And before I smack myself on the head & forget ...My most fav soundtrack by him is Nikaah.. And I think I mentioned this before, even being a RD Fanatic I can not figure out why "Sanam Teri Kasam" scored an award over this film.

What are yours HR Bhai?

Thanks to you all for your fast response to this poll.
I missed seeing some movies with very good music by Ravi. However, lots of Ravi compositions are spread in several of my play lists. Tomorrow, I will post my choices.

lakshmi

1. ghoonghat
2. do kaliyan
3. vandana
4. bharosa
5. nazarana
6. chaudvin ka chand
7. waqt
8. tower house
9. gumrah

No particular order....mostly chosen because the whole album is great.

Tawaif - for the aforementioned reasons. Sangeet knows me well, lol. love it all, but mostly the tragic Tere Pyar Ki Tamanna and Huzoor Aate Aate Bahut Der Kardi
Waqt - solid soundtrack, beautiful romantic duets, qawwalies, aur kya chahiye?
Neel Kamal - for Aaja Tujhko Pukare Mera Pyar and Yeh Zindagi Jo Thi Ab Tak
Nikaah - Chehra Chhupa Liya Hai Kisi Ne and the wonderful ghazalish feel to it
Dahleez - watched the movie quite a few times, Tum Aaye Tau and Dil Beqaraar
Chaudhvin Ka Chand - an all time classic
Gumrah - for Aaja Re Tujhko Mera Pyar Pukare
Kaajal - for Chhu Lene Do, Yeh Zulf Agar
Hamraaz - every single number
Khandan - for the ethereal Tumhi Mere Mandir and the painful Kal Chaman Tha

Sassi Punnu for the beautiful Asha & Rafi punjabi songs, Dachi Waleya, Laggi Wale Te Kade Nahin

Wakai. Album is a treat for people used to see Mala Sinha lip syncing Lata songs.

Anupama, Deewani, Erum Hashmi, Harsh Bhatt, Lakshmi, Madhavi, Suhana Safar,

Thank you all for your rapid response to this poll.
In tabulating the final results, I was thinking on giving weight to album ranking. Since, some of you prefer to give all ten selections equal ranking, I will treat all ten albums equally.

Hari Ram,

That seems to be a good idea.

How about also making a list the songs that some members have mentioned as their favorites?

There are so many great albums by Ravi. It became inevitable for me to leave out equally excellent albums. Especially from 1960 to 1969, it is hard exclude even one album.

Narsi Bhagat (1957)
(darshan do ghanshyaam)

Chaudhwin Ka Chand (1960)
(badle badle; mili khaak mein mohabbat; dil ki kahaani; title song - Waheeda Rehman appears very beautiful; feels as though Shakeel Badayuni wrote after seeing the scene)

Gumrah (1963)
(in hawaaon mein; chalo ek baar - this song and Dhund song are two excellent piano songs)

Kaajal (1965)
(Hard to single out; all are great songs)

Waqt (1965)
(ae mere zohra-zabeen; hum jab simat ke; din hai bahaar ke; kaun aayaa)

Do Badan (1966)
(raha gardishon mein; lo aa gayi unki yaad; jab chali tandi hawaa; bhari duniyaa mein aakhir)

Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka (1975)
(dekha hai zindagi ko; dil mein kisi ke pyaar - both ver; title song)

Nikaah (1982)
(every song is excellent)

Tawaif (1985)
(ae khudaae - takes us to the 60s; tere pyaar ki tamannaa; huzoor aate)

Vaishaali (1995)
(All are very refreshing songs by newer singers with a touch of south indian flavor)
