Hi All

Taking an inspiration from thread in R D Burman's forum about RD's top 30 albums, I thought how about rating your top 10 albums of senior Burman da.

SD sahab has given evergreen and timeless music for over 30 years of his career as composer. He is in the league of veterans and has used the voices of a range of singers which is not generally found with other composers.

Looking forward to your top 10 albums with a line or two as to why you selected this one !

I will post my list soon..

Regards
Parag

Here is my choice with a few words of my reasons behind the same

01 Do Bhai (1947) - The magic of "Mera sunder sapna beet gaya" is still alive even after more than 60 years

02 Baazi (1951) - Evergreen combo of Sahir-SDB-GD

03 Jaal (1952) - One single "Chandani raatein pyar ki baatein" is enough to deserve a place in top-10

04 Pyaasa (1957) - Masterpiece !

05 Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958) - Ultimate fun album !

06 Munimji (1955) - Lovely melodies by Lata ji !

07 Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959) - Not all songs are as popular as those of Pyasa, but one song "Waqt ne kiya" is a highlight

08 Sujata (1959) - Divine phone-song "Jalte hain jiske liye"

09 Bandini (1963) - Gulzar sahab's first song "Mora gora ang lai le"

10 Paying Guest (1957) - Lovely songs all the way...

It was hard to pick my choice of top 10.
I started picking one by one. It came to 20. Couldn't cut it down. Then decided to randomly pick 10 from it.
Here they are with some of my favourite songs.
I haven't been exposed to late 40s and early 50s songs. Therefore, my selections are mostly from mid 50s onwards.

MERI SURAT TERI ANKHEN
(all seven songs are outstanding)

BANDINI
(o jaane waale; abke baras; mora gora ang)

PYAASA
(aaj sajan mohe; jaane woh kaise; hum aapki aankhon mein; yeh duniyaa)

ABHIMAAN
(abto hai tumse; teri bindiyaa; nadiya kinaare; piya bina)

GUIDE
(kaanton se keenchke; din dhal jaaye; piyaa tose; wahan kain hai)

SUJATA
(jalte hain jiske liye; nanhi kali; suno mere bandu re)

KAALA PANI
(hum bekhudi mein; Even if this movie had only this song, this would still be my pick)

KAALA BAZAAR
(khoya khoya chaand; rim jim ke taraane)

TALASH
(itni akheli; khayi hai re; tere naina; palkon ke peeche)

SHARMILEE
(megha chaaye; khil ti hai ghul yahaan; aaj madhosh; kaise kahe)

A tough choice, as there are many fantastic albums, and lists can keep on changing, but right now here are my Top 10, these albums are among my very favourites of Burman Dada (in no particular order):

1. Pyaasa - high quality mix of singing, lyrics, and music, Rafi, Geeta and Hemant are all wonderful.
2. Guide - what an album, a milestone in HFM, many musical riches.
3. Talash - I love all the songs in this film, from Lata's "Kitni akeli kitni tanha" to Lata-Rafi's "Palkon ke peeche se" to Manna's "Tere naina talash" to Asha's "Kar le pyar" to Lata-Rafi's "Aaj ko junli raat ma" and more.
4. Tere Ghar Ke Samne - another fantastic album, all the songs are classics.
5. Abhimaan - beautiful album, awesome Lata solos and fantastic duets, especially love "Teri bindiya re" and "Nadiya kinare".
6. Sharmilee - all fantastic songs, my favourites are "Khilte hain gul yahan" and "Megha chhaye aadhi raat".
7. Ziddi - very under-rated, but great album, all the songs are gems, especially "Champakali dekho" and "Pyar ka sama".
8. Jewel Thief - Lata-Rafi's "Dil pukare are are" is imo Dada's most romantic duet ever, the rest of the songs are excellent as well including Kishore's "Yeh dil na hota" and Lata's 'Rulake gaya sapna mera".
9. Nau Do Gyarah - great songs, "Kali ke roop mein", "Hum hain rahi pyar ke", "Aankhon mein kya ji", and "Aaja panchi akela hai" are treats.
10a) Kala Bazar - a gem of an album, very nice songs.
10b) Teen Devian - I couldn't leave this album out, so number 10 is in two parts tongue1.gif. The four Kishore songs are excellent, but the reason I included this album is just because of those two out of this world Rafi solos "Aise to na dekho" and "Kahin bekhayal hokar".
