I always thought that the film Neend hamari khwab tumhare (of 1966) had an 'original' name !! Looks like this 'original' name was 'original' 23 years earlier in 1943 !!!

The Suraiya song - Ek tu aur ek main hoon...aur nadi ka kinara ho, sama pyara pyara ho' is a childhood favourite. We had (still have) the 78 rpm version of this song...must have heard it a thousand times when I was young.

rendition by inexperienced, innocent voiced Suraiya. One of the best
songs by her.

Personally I believe the sargam was sung by Manju and not Balakram.

The sargam was picturised on young Balakram. He conducted the orchestra
beautifully in the movie. Will give another listening to the song before saying
any thing. Manju was also in the movie and the songs picturised on
one of the heroines were sung by her. She is in Mumbai.

So what's the verdict? I can't recognise any voices of that era except Suraiya and K.L. Saigal of course. Interestingly, no KLS in this CD!!! (nor the next - but he'd passed on by 1947). I did listen to Manju in the last song here and it could as well be her in that sargam, but I don't feel qualified to speculate.

Sri : Yeps, I realise how naive I was. I used to find it odd that they recycled film names, then I realised that the original names were from an even earlier era!!

I was charmed by Ek tu ho ek main hoon pretty quickly. "Naddi ka kinara ho hmmmm" Very sweet!!

This is one of the best threads I have seen covering the early years of HFM. Great selection of variety of songs, singers and composers.
IMHO, the evolution of music in this "Sentimental" era, set up a nice stage for the "Golden" era of 1947 to 1957.

As you rightly said earlier, there is only 1 song of Geeta ji in this set. That too, is not so rare for fans of Geeta ji. I too have this song in CDQ, but it has some continuous hissing noise in the background.
