After the unexpected but well-deserved success of "Pyaasa," Guru Dutt decided to make even a bigger and better picture. He did this with "Kaagaz Ke Phool." It was the first Indian movie photographed in Cinema Scope. It was the last movie for which SD composed music for Guru Dutt. SD was to compose the music of "Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam" but was indisposed at that time and couldn't accept the assignment. Hemant Kumar siezed the opportunity and provided some unforgettable music. "Kaagaz Ke Phool" was also Guru Dutt's last movie as a director. He was utterly disappointed with the rejection of the movie and vowed never to direct again. He went on to make several more great movies as a producer and actor. But none reached the scales he achieved with "Kaagaz Ke Phool." In my opinion, it was ultimate in film making and one of the monumental achievement of Indian cinema.

Almost all songs from this movie are beautiful. But the one which towers over everything is Geet's rendition of "Waqt Ne Kiya." She sings this with such verve, so much depth and melancholy, it leaves a lasting impression forever. Listening to this song is an experience of a lifetime.
