Some sources give the release date of this movie as 1954. My documents show it to be 1955. I am going along with mine. This movie has several beautiful songs. "Jayen to Jayen Kahan" sung by Talat was a chart buster for long time. Dev Anand was fresh coming off with his tragic end of a hot romantic affair with the famous singer and actress Suraiya. Apparently Suraiya's granny disapproved their match. Suraiya never married after that incident. Must have been a heart breaking experience for her. Dev Anand wasted no time however. He found in Kalpana Kartik, the heroine of "Taxi Driver," a new flame. They appeared together in couple of other Dev's movies (House No. 44 and Nau Do Gyarah) before got married. They remain married to this date.

"Taxi Driver" was written and directed by Dev's older brother, Chetan Anand. Many years later, after a string of failures as a producer and director of many forgettable movies, a financially strapped Dev remade "Taxi Driver" as "Jaaneman" with Hema Malini as his leading lady. He also had his brother Chetan Anand direct this version of the movie as well. Laxmikant-Pyarelal provided the music. The music for this movie was fine, but movie itself wasn't. The magic that worked in "Taxi Driver" wasn't there in "Jaaneman." But the indomitable spirit that he symbolizes has Dev move along with endless energy and youthful enthusiasm as a model for generations to come.

Here are all the songs from this album. The extended version of the song "Ae Meri Zindagi" is courtesy of the Forum members.
