My guess is you've already seen these movies but it is good to make sure.

(1) Chupke Chupke (Dharmendra was a great comedian)
(2) Angoor
(3) Padosan (Kishore Kumar's best comedy - very good movie)
(4) Gol Maal (1979 version)
(5) Pati Patni Aur Woh (not purely comedy - but excellent movie)
(6) Hungama (2001 - not a fan of today's movies but this was very good)

Btw...you can watch a lot of Mehmood comedies (not exactly my cup of tea) and other classics like Suraj, Tumse Achcha Kaun Hai, Evening in Paris, Chote Nawab (you can guess my theme with these movies lol) on rajshri dot com.

Some more if you don't mind Black and white movies. Some of these are not pure comedy but light
family oriented and fun to watch.

Chalti ke naam gaadi
Chori Chori old Raj Kapoor- Nargis version.
Albela (old) Bhagwan = Geeta bali
Kisi se na kehna - This is colour with Deepti Naval and Farook Sheikh
Victoria 203

I know the basic story line of Ram Aur Shyam. Majority of it is NOT comedy. Of course there are antics where the not-so-shy Dilip Kumar gets mixed up with the shy Dilip Kumar and teaches Pran a lesson - but this is a minority of the movie.

As for Kohinoor - is even half of that movie comedy? I'm very fond of Meena Kumari. If so - I'll order it myself. My suspicion is there are a few comedic moments but no more. That is what I gathered from the story line. Can't believe they classified Sholay as a comedy movie - even if it had that Mausi ji scene!

Good pick on Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi. Good entertainment and one of my favorite songs "Ek Ladki Ti Bheegi Baghi Se...Mili Ek Ajnaji" - you gotta love the SDB-Kishore combination.

Noorie,
Azad I saw a really long time ago and don't remember much, although it is on my list to watch.

Kohinoor I have yet to see ?

But I am surprised, as DK fan, you picked Ram Aur Shaym over say Gopi or Leader

I certainley did not mean to Ignore DK but I gave my list in a hurry and for comedy type

they are a better choice IMO

There are just as many scenes where Pran is torturing the shy Dilip Kumar. Scenes like those are the opposite of comedy. Not what I call "light".

You're right - those comedy movies were entertaining! Some of my favorites biggrin.gif

Gopi is not a comedy movie. There is a clear distinction among full comedy movies like Padosan, Chupke Chupke, Angoor and movies like Ram Aur Shyam & Gopi which have just a few comedy scenes but a lot of not-so-light scenes.

So what's the reason for omitting Half-Ticket from your list? smile.gif Salil C not quite to your taste? closedeyes.gif

A bowl of piping hot chicken soup is highly recommended for a feverish temperament. Would you like to have some now?

Perhaps it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to resume this conversation when you’re better acquainted with the subtleties of the Urdu zubaan.

a forgotten Gem of a film...

Lakhon ki baat ....starring Sanjeev kumar, Utpal dutt and Farooq shaikh.

The film is a take off from jack lemmon film...The fortune cookie...but a brilliant ' laugh a minute ' flick. smile.gif

SF bhai. thumbs-up.gif In fact I have enjoyed almost all Farooq Shaikh movies. They are light comedies and are movies that you can enjoy with your family. wub.gif More in that line would be Chasm-e-baddoor, Kisise na kehena, Rang birangi, peecha karo and mera daamad. Another my all time favourite is Jaane bhi do yaaron. biggrin.gif

HT bhai...Farooq shaikh is my favourite actor too..He was so natural in every role. Most under rated actor..i guess. smile.gif He and Amol palekar belong to that unique class..in that genre.

Dear Myawan!

The comedy is not yet over! Here is my list of 11 All Time Best Comedies...

1. Do Dooni Char (Better than its later-day version Angoor)
2. Chhoti Si Baat
3. Sara Aakash (the only comedy to win President's Best Film Award!)
4. Rajanigandha
5. Katha (The best from Sai Paranjape with Nasir and Farooque Shaikh givin superlative performances)
6. Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi
7. Hungama (New)
8. Chacha Choudhari (A classic one...Madan Mohan's music)
9. Ek Phool Char Kante
10. Golmaal
11. Chashme Bahaddur

These you must see!

PS; To call Kohinoor, Azad, Gopi, Ram aur Shyam as full length comedies means Ms Noori's dictionary of meanings of words is different than that followed by common mortals like us.

2. How happy I would have been to include at least one full length comedy of Johny Walker! Alas, his all such movies are virtually trash. I have to say this although he is my most favourite comedian in films. I do not know why he didn't choose good films as a comic hero. I have seen his Mr Cartoon M. A./Khota Paisa/Johny Walker/Aaji Bas Shukriya/Chhoomantar, All are very crudely made.

Thanks for the recommendations - I'll be ordering some movies myself like the original "Angoor" with Kishore Kumar, etc.

Chashme Bador is available in full screen. legitimately and freely from the distributor themselves at rajshri web page.

I loved Choti Si Baat (family, light, cute movie) and then wanted to see Rajnigandha which was very different (serious - see summary) and I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the others. As for Shaukeen - it is good to address every day common issues as Basu Chatterjee likes to do- but I'd rather wish they did some other topic (see summary). Amol Palekar was good in Choti Si Baat & Golmaal (both excellent and highly recommended) but after a few movies he got too one dimensional. It is good to be realistic and everyday rather than dashing Dharmendra who can also sing with an angelic voice - but it gets too much after all that Amol Palekar becomes so uninspiring. That is why I didn't order his movie with Tina Munim where he refuse marry because he doesn't have high income. Realistic - but come on - we common people are not that incapable - if 80s Tina Munim were at my door step - I'd make an empire and buy out Ambani biggrin.gif . He becomes too too wimpy and we "common" people are stronger than that. laugh.gif

Mywan - it is time you watch Sholay - you are really missing out. Do watch it on a Saturday night - it is a special movie.

Also if you've exhausted those movies, you can look into Naram Gharam. Hrishikesh Mukherjee is my favorite director, he's executed movies better, but this is still good. Shatrughan Sinha has an excellet singing voice (obviously for the standards for an actor).

Subhash bro, still getting along splendidly, aren’t we? Click to view attachment

You quit the spirituality forum in rather a tearing hurry Click to view attachment if I recall correctly; was it last year, or the year before that, surely you can’t fault me for not keeping track.

I am afraid I have some bad news to share though; I’ve decided that any further philosophical discussions of the sort you fancy would have to be indulged outside the spirituality forum, it can’t make much of a difference to you, I suppose. Click to view attachment
