He really struggled a lot. He used to literally live around recording studios to get a chance to sing. He even tried his luck as a hero in 2 of the films .. one was called Kusume Rumal and other was a remake of Aradhana that he produced also. The first one has some magical songs . He always makes a point to sing bunch of songs every year in films / non- filmi as well in his home town with his wife. Really love their old songs. There was a Darjeeling production from early 80s called Bansuri which has his very famous duet with Asha Bhosle.. Just saw the Vinyl @ one place ... now my hands and wallet are itching
