For the Musafir Item Bomb, there was a contest held in Mumbai on Oct 5, 2004. Judges were Mr. Aishwarya Rai (Vivek Oberoi) and Abhishek Bachchan. Poor thing they both turned aghast and red faced.

Here are some pictures from the show. Belarus-born beauty Tatsiana Bokhan who won the contest, performs a pole dance in the prop round.

Music Review by mid day:

Musafir/ Music: Vishal-Shekhar, T-Series: On the CDs of Musafir, director Sanjay Gupta and music directors Vishal-Shekhar have done something innovative, at least as far as Bollywood is concerned.

One volume is Musafir Club, which “caters to your feet”, and the other is Musafir Lounge, which is “for your heart”. Strangely, the same principle isn’t followed on the cassettes, where the songs are arranged in haphazard order.

Of course, this isn’t the only new film to have a double-CD set — in Aitraaz, music director Himesh Reshammiya has one album of originals, and one of remixes. But in the case of Musafir, the idea of doing Club and Lounge albums is inspired by the Buddha Bar series, though a lot of the music is influenced by the global sounds played in Goa.

Whatever it is, it works perfectly with the soundtrack, especially when songs have multiple mixes.

Blending Goa-trance, techno, house, club and lounge elements with basic Hindi film melodies, Vishal-Shekhar create some ultra-cool songs, with Nikhil Chinappa and DJ Aqeel helping out on some tracks. Even though one finds a Kaante hangover, there’s a lot of class here.

Rabba, arguably the most outstanding song, has two versions on the Club CD and two on the Lounge. One may think that’s a bit too much, but each version has its own charm.

Two techno versions have been rendered by Krishna and Richa Sharma to lyrics by Kumar and Dev Kohli. Krishna’s voice has a piercing quality, with a Nusrat-esque timbre, and Richa dazzles with her sheer expression.

Richa also sings the lounge version, which has great percussion and keyboards, whereas Sukhwinder Singh renders a pathos-filled version.

Most of the other lyrics have been shared by Dev Kohli, Vishal and Milap Jhaveri. Door Se Paas, sung smoothly by KK to a riveting trance backdrop, is the kind of tune that’ll make you dance vigorously, though one wishes there had been an alternate version, with a longer intro and climax.

Another goodie on Musafir Club is the two-part Ishq Kabhi Kariyo Na, composed by Anand Raaj Anand, and sung by Sukhwinder and Sunidhi Chauhan. The Sukhwinder-Sunidhi duet Saaki is a letdown.

An off-key Sanjay Dutt mumbles his way through two parts of the situational Tez Dhaar, though the bluesy version on the Lounge CD boasts of a crisp guitar line.

Musafir Lounge is boosted by two ballads – Phir Na Kehna (Kumar Sanu-Sunidhi) and Ek Dil Ne (Kunal Ganjawala-Shreya Ghoshal). With good coordination between the singers, both songs grow. Hema Sardesai chips in with Sun Suniyo, which is catchy but not extraordinary.

The CD contains mixes of some Kaante songs, include Rama Re and Mahi Ve — but why? As for Musafir, some good songs, modern elements and awesome production values make it a wonderful attempt to use club-friendly sounds in film music.

Worth: A CD
