BJ, I have always held the idea that ghazal singers usually and especially the stalwarts like Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, Jagjit Singh, and others compose ghazals themselves. The only thing that sometimes they don't do is musical arrangement. JS has done both in the past and also done it for some other singers like Talat Aziz, Vani Ghanshyam, Vinod Sehgal, Pervez Mehdi and a few others.

There have been some exceptions to this rule, though. We know Lalit Sen has given music for some of the above mentioned stalwarts too, like Mehdi Hasan and Runa Laila.

So, when you hinted at the possibility of Ghulam Ali himself not having composed, I was a bit baffled. Or, were you insinuating an exception only?

Yes totally agree to some extent that they have the choice and might be composing some of their ghazals themselves but not necessarily always true. For example at many times their music instruments players ...we call the music artist might not be able to accompany them into those live concerts due to various reasons like cross border visas , etc. And have you grabbed the CD of swar utsav at India Gate in delhi... where I have read that for ghulam ali CD- live at swar utsav the music was by great ustad sultan khan...

Yaar this was a live concert and I have no clue who would have given the music at that time , tunes might be composed by Ghulam ali ji himself but all those settings and choice of musical instruments...I have no clue about it.

Ok, I am mentioning here the last four tracks of the album, let me know if you talking about these tracks:

1. Sundar Komal (by Sabina Yasmeen)
2. Neem Khawabi (by Musart Nazir)
3. Kubaku phail gai (by Mehdi Hassan)
4. Recitation (without singing by poetess herself)
