Kundan Lal Saigal(1904-1947)

Kundan Lal Saigal was really the first male superstar of Indian Cinema who set the tone for musical melodrama acting in the 1930s and 40s. Though not conventionally good-looking and balding (in fact he always wore a wig to cover his baldness), people responded to his everyman demeanor and to that voice…even when articulating dialogue.

Dilip Kumar - 1922

Dilip Kumar is regarded as arguably the greatest actor ever to grace the Indian silver screen. His performances have been regarded as the epitome of emoting in Indian Cinema. Though he has done all kinds of films - he balanced a lightweight Shabnam (1949) with the intense Andaaz (1949), the ultra-serious Daag (1952) with the swashbuckling Aan (1952), the heavy Devdas (1955) with the entertainer Azaad (1955), he is mainly remembered as the King of Tragedy.....

Raj Kapoor: Bollywood's original showman - December 14, 1924 - June 2, 1988

Ruddy-cheeked and light-eyed, Raj Kapoor was unmistakably Destiny's blue-eyed boy....This boy wonder started multi-tasking from the age of 24 when he produced, directed and acted in Aag (1948).
He had the unique ability to marshal talents like writer K A Abbas, lyricists Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri, music maestros Shanker-Jaikishan, singer Mukesh and numerous actors and make them work at their optimum.
As a romantic actor, his onscreen romance with Nargis, fuelled by larger-than-life stories of their off-screen relationship, was a glorious chapter in the cinematic history of Hindi cinema....
But the roles Kapoor played best were those of a messiah of social change and of the impassioned advocate of universal love.....

i have put A LOT of thought into this...after serious consideration...i have concluded that yes, madhubala at her best - was indeed the most beautiful of them all wub.gif ...i know most people would only think for 2 seconds...but i'm a fair guy laugh.gif

Simplefable, thank you so much my friend for time and efforts in attaching the images of Vyjyantimala and Helen.

Much appreciated! smile.gif

Please cut out that "ji" please. "Nasir" plain and simple would do. Remember, I haven't crossed the CHEENI KUM age.

By the way, did you notice, how at a very young the heroines don't appear attractive. For instance, look at Vyjyantimala. She looks so different. Such is also the case of Meena Kumari and many others.
However, Hema Malini was a looker even at a very young age which is evident from SAPNON KA SAUDAGAR which I believe is her first Hindi movie. Oh yes, Rakhee looked gorgeous too. But the once picture I can't forget is that of Mala Sinha: very slim body and a big head.

The second aspect is the gradual change for the better. Is that owing to the comforts and luxuries of life that the actors are able to command after they are established? See how the colour changes! smile.gif

Nasir Bhai...Undoubtedly women do look good in thirties..the flab goes away and an elegance comes into their demeanour...You can watch how Mumtaz, Rekha, Sri devi et al.
For those who put on lot of weight in between those years, from twenty to thirty, they look old and kind of strained in later films..Vyjayantimala for instance..She was weighing a tonne in Madhumati..Still carried the role with aplomb..which is a different matter altogether.
For the likes of Waheeda Rehman or Mala sinha, who havent put on any weight all through their career..Age never touched them..By the way, i will upload the photos of Waheeda Rehman from the first film of hers..where she did a wonderful Skit dance in local folklore, telugu. After seeing this Guru dutt picked her up...and the rest is history. smile.gif
