Bride and Prejudice will be out on October 8 in UK and India. A dubbed version in Hindi will also be released for our rural friends and is titled, Balle Balle - Amritsar to LA

Moviegoers may recollect that Gurinder Chadha's last film Bend It Like Beckhem (2002) was also released in a dubbed Hindi version titled as Football Shutball Hai Rabba.

Anu Malik has composed seven peppy numbers for the film. Incidentally, Malik plays a small part as a pundit who welcomes the family during the wedding.

UK based Rishi Rich has created a remix version of a Punjabi song Balle Balle, Soniya De Rang Dekho. Also for the Hindi version of the film, the English lyrics by Farhan and Zoya Akhtar have been translated into Hindi by their father Javed Akhtar.

haha okay. biggrin.gif mujhe laga koi aur hai. I like her.

Now that I look at the picture again, the one on Namrata's left looks like Sonali Kulkarni and the one on right of AR like the gal who played AR's sister (the one having an affair) in HDDCS.

After this movie, Gurinder's husband wants to launch another movie. He wanted Aish to be a part, but she gave a cold shoulder asking the husband and wife to check with her manager.

What could have gone wrong?!?!?!

May be AR be flying on cloud nine after getting offers from Hollywood and now wanting a desi offer.

I watched video interview of Gurinder. She is a kind hearted tom-boyish sort of cool gal. Her cast and crew loved working with her.

When celebrated filmmaker Gurinder Chadha used the cliched backdrop of East meets West in her film Bend it like Beckham, the result was an enjoyable fare, inclusive of the loud Punjabi style and ‘aloo gobi’.

But, her much hyped, keenly awaited take on Jane Austen’s classic novel ‘Pride and Prejudice’, Bride and Prejudice, is a curry that fails to entice. It is a blemished film that goes overboard in trying to incorporate the indispensable Bollywood formula of romance, heartbreak, songs and much more.

A re-working of the much-loved and oft-adapted classic, this film is moved to India, LA and London with a contemporary setting and a Bollywood gloss. Instead of the Bennet’s and their five daughters, here is Mr Bakshi (Anupam Kher), Mrs Bakshi (Nadira Babbar) and their four daughters, Jaya (Shirodkar), Lalita (Rai), Lakhi (Peeya Rai Chaudhary and Maya (Mehgnaa).

With four daughters to be married off, Mrs Bakshi is obsessively on the lookout for potential suitors for each of them, so much so that she even checks out grooms on the Internet. While Jaya manages to attract the attention of rich, handsome Balraj (Naveen Andrews), home on a visit from England, at a friend’s wedding, Lalita takes a strong dislike to his snobbish, condescending American friend, Will Darcy (Henderson).

Jaya and Lalita even get to holiday with Balraj and friends in Goa, with their mother’s permission, so that “Balraj gets to see Jaya in a swimsuit.” As Jaya and Balraj romance around, Lalita confirms her dislike of Darcy, and when she meets Johnny Wickham (Daniel Gillies), a back-packer, who gives her horror storie about Darcy, and to know much of the ‘real’ India, she invites him back to the family home in Amritsar.

Is Wickham or Darcy the man of Lalita’s dreams? Well, you need to see the film to figure that one out.

The trouble with the lead pair, Lalita and Darcy is that there is no chemistry between them. Martin Henderson is profoundly cute, but seems stiff and uncomfortable.

Aishwarya Rai as usual does her best at looking gorgeous and that sums up her role in the film.

Though the Indian setting may seem a clever idea, because arranged marriages are still the norm here. The question is, why make Darcy American? While the Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet in the novel, came from the same world, with no cultural or racial difference between them, it would have made sense for Henderson’s character to be eliminated and replaced with someone as a a wealthy snobbish Indian?

Bride and Prejudice is not entertaining despite lavish spectacular moments, lots of local colour, gorgeous settings, beautiful actresses, and some very terrible songs (in their English version).

There are the occasional funny moments, but the film never amounts to more than a toothless novelty version of ‘Pride and Prejudice’.

Wohi to... our girls don't realise the value of looking elegant, so they look overdone. I love ethnic clothes don't get me wrong... the vibrant colors and the rich fabric, the beautiful work... but... too much of everything makes them gaudy! But it seems this fall everything is a bit over the top, so I guess she was just keeping up with the times and we are lacking fashion sense tongue.gif

by Taran Adrash:

As things stand today, it's pretty evident that Gurinder Chadha's BRIDE AND PREJUDICE will not surpass the theatrical business of BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM in U.K. The East meets West flick has slipped to No. 4 position in its second weekend, facing stiff competition from Hollywood biggies SHARK TALE and WHITE CHICKS.

While BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM had collected £ 1.7 million on 386 screens in its second weekend, BRIDE AND PREJUDICE has collected £ 863,609 on 377 screens in its second weekend. See the difference!

BRIDE AND PREJUDICE should make its debut in Europe, Australia and U.S.A. in the coming weeks. Let's see how the film fares in these markets!
