Hi All
Roshanara Begum was indeed a great classical mastero in her own right. However, she sang quite a few lovely semi-classical songs as well. I'm looking for two of them-

1. Man Haule Haule Dole Dole Re
2. Albele Naina-Kismat (1955).

BTW, are there any fans of the lady on this group?

Hi pulkit,

i am, like, a HUGE fan of hers.

i had "doley re man holey holey", but unfortunately, most of my classical tapes were left at home when i travelled to the U.S.

i have a couple of classical numbers by her though, and would be happy to share them, maybe we might find something to share.

here's what i have at the moment on audio casettes.

raga lalit
raga batyar
raga maru behag
raga adana
raga durga
raga bhibhas
raga jaunpuri
raga basant
raga bahar
raga miyan ki malhar
raga des
raga shankara
raga naiki kanada
raga jhinjhoti
raga kamod
raga shudh kalyan
raga kalavanti
raga anandi
thumri "piya jao jao"
dadra "najariya tum hi se lagi"

all these need to be converted into mp3s. i'll be doing that from time to time. if u can find time, maybe u can list anything apart from this list that u have.. and let me know if u need anything from this list. i'll try and convert them ASA i can.

She is simply amazing. malika e mausiqi !! i actuyally have to stop my self from starting on how amazing she is... bow.gif

Vow, good to see you respond. I would really like to listen to the thumri and dadra you mentioned. I also have some songs of Roshanara Begum but will have to trace the audio tape. In fact, I had 2 tapes, out of which only the classical songs collection remains. Sadly, the one that had semi-classical numbers and film songs from Kismat, Roopmati Baazbahadur and Neela Parbat got damaged.

yeah pulkit..

beleive me, when one loses truely rare gems like these, one finds how truely precious they were.

i am extremely sorry for the delayed response. my schedule is extremely busy and i havent even been able to visit HF for a full week.

i had a couple of more thumris on video casettes. they were the most amazing things i have ever heard in my life. specially seeing her perform live (though on video) is an honor in itself. i remember the first time i saw the video tape, i could hear my heart beating in my ears.. the thumri was "paraya des ho, tose lagi najarya". i can still remember the tune (which is, needless to say, impossible to even hum) and can remember it to be so wonderful it had the whole atmosphere changed around me..

i will upload the things as soon as i can find time. its literally impossible for me to afford such leisure.. but still i will try my best.

also, i would like to know what you have on the classical numbers by her. is it anything not in my list? plz let me know.

Very trur Wahsee Ji, Same feelings here. I am also a big fan of Malika-e-Mosiqi, and have a good number of her classical work, alongwith the complete set of 'Gharanon ki Gaiki' (Produced by Khurshid Anwar) I also have a lovely ghazal of Roshan Ara 'Hone ko to kya howa nahein hai'. Will try to post a list what I have.

I have made some uploads in 'Raag Rang' thread regarding Roshan Ara Begam. Please check the following link:

Can you upload 'Dole re mann hole hole' for me? I have this thumri but in worst sound quality.
Wehshee
dear imran nadeem,

thank you for the kind words, i'm afraid i don't have the thumri "mann doley" with me unsure.gif

i have already downloaded your generous uploads. (roshan ara and madam noor jahan) thanks a lot.

perhaps you can upload the ghazal you mentioned. i had a ghazal "udher barq-e-tapaan rakh di" from roshan ara begum in the same rape along with another thumri "nimbwa taley".. what an amazing number.. i guess i better startplanning a vacation trip to get my casettes (and meet a few relatives while i'm there for the casettes) :$ tongue.gif

looking forward to a list of your collection. khursheed anwar's "gharano ki gaeki" sounds very interesting..
