Thanks for the upload. I had the song earlier - and it is one of their best - but in poor quality. Actually I had come across a site years back that had Doordarshan archives showing a series of video recordings from a series called 'Ghazal ka safar' or something similar sounding - the site has not been active for years now. This was one of the three ghazals the brothers performed. 'Yaar thaa gulzar thaa' was another one and IIRC, 'Kyun hamein maut ke paigham diye jaate hain' was the third. Aise hi tape kar liya thaa. Inaam, Shaibaal and Anjvajay: If you haven't already heard this ghazal, I would highly recommend it. It is a lovely composition in Raag Darbari Kanada with a generous dose of sargam in it. IMO, it belongs right up there with the other ghazal-e-mai-parasti in Darbari: "hungama hain kyon barpa".

Maikhane mein baithe hain aur mai ko taraste hain
Mahaul hai phoolon ka, pathhar se baraste hain

Ek arshe baad Hussain Bandhu ke purane rung ki koi cheez sunane ko mili.
Lekin maazrat chahata hoon ye ghazal-e-mai-parasti nahi hai.
"Mai" yahan Alaamat bhar hai. Aur "hungama hain kyon barpa" ka bhi jis tarah se istemal hota hai use dekh kar Akabar Alahabadi ki rooh roti hogi.(Bawajood iske ki Akabar ek Majahiya Shayar ke taur par mashahoor hai, ek sanzida aur soofi kism ke insaan the) Akabar ne isi ghazal ke ek sher me saaf likha hai:

Us mai se nahi matlab, dil jis se ho begana
Matloob hai us mai se, dil hi me jo khichti hai

I think you are mixing up Khursheed Awar with Naushad. Ye Khursheed Anwar thay jinhon ne Sehgal Sahab ko bina sharab ke gawaaya, film thi 'Parwana', and this was Sehgal Sahab's last film.

Inaam Sahab 'Parwana' ke sare gaane Shajahan se pahale hi record ho chooke the. Bataur Singar akhiri baar Sahgal ne aawaj Shajahan ke liye hi di thi.Bina sarab ke gawane ka credit bhi Naushad Sahab ko hi jata hai. Ye baat unhone khud "Jaymala" ke ek program me kahi thi jo maine khud suna tha.

Please pardon me for using the phrase "ghazal-e-mai-parasti" in a loose way. Aapne jis she'r ka zikr kiya, us se mai achchi tarah waaqif hoon aur appki har rai se main sehmat bhi hoon. "Ghazal-e-Mai-Parasti" kehne mein mera matlab bhi usi mai se tha jo Akbar Ilahabadi ka tha.

well folks i think silence here wud b a blessing in as much that i think i m speaking in a very informed and august company,but cant stop myself from adding that if one graduates that doesnt exactly mean that he shuould be looking down on kinder garten.what i mean to say that people like pankaj udhas have at one time incited teenagers like me to ghazals ending up in my learning urdu to understand ghazal.if i am not wrong ,before udhas and the likes the ghazals heard by the generation were so heavy that by default the new generation was averse to hearing these compositions.here i would add that music is not good or bad it is the mood which actually decides because one needs parosan apni murgi ko rakhna sambhal as much one needs zindagi mein to sabhi pyar.

AHMH have taken a different approach of alternately singing ash'ar from Bashir Badr's ghazal and from other shayars with same radeef/kaafiya. The dialogue between the artists and audience is quite entertaining. Highly recommended.
