It is difficult to say anything about Ghantasala. HE is telugu voice for decades gone by and decades to come. As somebody said, he is a Gaana Gandharva. The chaste way he sang is unbelievable. We will never get another one..am SURE. The unique thing is he rendered poetry..padyaalu..which is a bench mark for generations to come. We telugu people always welcome new things whether it might be languages or traditions. The other day, i requested and downloaded and enjoyed songs of Hemant Kumar in Bengali, though i dont know a word about bengali. Music transcends all languages. But i will be happy to see some uploads of songs videos and padyams..and other trivia. I am sure the nice people in this forum will come out and help to continue this thread...

The second one has a story to tell. the song is Malliyara maalikalara...from Nirdoshi . the music director is Ghantasala himeself, the versalite genius. Actually i read somewhere that this song is unique as it cannot be classifed under any known ragas...can any knowledgeable person around can clarify this? i would be grateful.

Do you know that this movie vagdanam ( promise) is based on Sarat Chandra's bengali novel DATTA? the same year another novel of sarat was made into telugu....Batasari ( traveller ) based on BADA DIDI...
those days even producers used to have this literary bent of mind. NOw it is all commercial... :-(

I have noted your comments on the Film:Batasari, in which I have a special liking for a Bhanumati-Jikki duet, "Kanulaku Thochi Chethikandani Endamaavulunnai".

Sarangadhara (1958) is a classic and a tragedy. In this film, Ghantasala sings one 'PADYAM" for NTR who was about to be hanged! Before the hanging, NTR is asked to spell out his last wish. And, in this PADYAM, NTR preaches the ultimate philosophy of life and says that he has no other wish but that this divine philosophy be practised by mankind! A very touching sequence, indeed!

The MD for this Film is also Ghantasala!

I am uploading this PADYAM (duration:1.32). PADYAM incidentally is a song form that is unique to Telugu!

Thanks for the uploads. Both tracks are incomplete and stop after 18 minutes and 7 minutes respectively. But I did buy the CD on my recent India trip, so no worries about the incomplete tracks. Please do not take the trouble to reupload.

Could someone please post "Priye Charusheele", "Pralaya Payodhijale" and "Ya Ramita Vanamalina" from Bhakta Jayadeva? Also, if you have the padyam "Meghairmeduramambaram" from the same movie, also sung by Ghantasaala, I'd love to have that.

Thanks. I have the four ashtapadis that Ghantasaala sang in that pvt album (which are the ones posted on Suarasa - which is an excellent site btw), I only lack the ones from the movie. If I remember right, the padyam was tagged on at the end of Ya Ramita Vanamalina, so if you have the full version of the song, the padyam should also be there.
