Pradeep:

Thanks for posting this. I downloaded all the video clips since I haven't see the movie.

Seems like we have lost what might have turned out to be a spectacle. It took so long in the making that by the time the incomplete film was released, the public had lost interest in it.

As I recollect, originally Guru Dutt was to play the role of Kais. First he died, then K. Asif, and then Sanjeev Kumar.

I remember an article in "Filmfare" in which Naushad had described a scene for which he had composed music. The scene needed thousands of butterflies to be let loose. I wonder if that scene featured in the incomplete version released.

Iqbal-bhai:

Frankly, I didn't notice the difference. Maybe I should listen to them again and more carefully.
Pradeep
Unni, the butterfly scene was not included in this version of the movie.

Iqbal, yes, Jaan-e-Tamanna is more of a 70s recording. Also, the style of rendition and singing is different in the Jaan-e-Tamanna and other songs. May be Rafi had sung the initial numbers keeping Guru Dutt in mind.. and later one keeping Sanjeev.

Frankly I did not like Nimmi in that role. Felt she is trying to immitate Meena Kumari. Her style of dialogue delivery and facial expression reminds me so much of Meena Kumari. If Guru Dutt had played the part of Kais, we would have seen a new avtaar of Guru Dutt, very different from his other roles.
