[edit] Early lifeMumtaz Begum Jehan Dehlavi, who is famous by her nick name Madhubala, was born in Delhi, India. She was Muslim and an ethnic Pashtun, the 5th child of a conservative Afghan family of 11 children. It is believed that a Muslim spiritual man or a saint has predicted that the young Mumtaz (Madhubala) would earn fame and fortune, but would lead an unhappy life and die at a young age. Madhubala (literally, damsel of honey) has been regarded with utmost admiration by multiple generations of Hindi moviegoers even up to the present day. Her father, Ataullah Khan, was a coachman in Delhi who migrated to Bombay remembering the holy man's words and searching for a better livelihood. The family struggled for over a year, and Mumtaz entered Bollywood as a child-artist under the name Baby Mumtaz. Madhubala's sister Chanchal was also a notable actress in the 1950s and had acted in some films with her.

I just want to make it clear that that there is a difference between nationality and ethnicity. Most, if not, all filmi cast/crew members have Indian nationality with only a handful having Afghani ethnicity.
I would also like to point out that not all Pathans (or "Pashtuns") have Afghani heritage - the majority have Pakistani heritage (e.g. the Kapoor family). So saying that, one should not automatically assume that a Pathan is Afghani without any reliable evidence.
Finally, Pathans in India/Pakistan (like Parsis, Iranis etc) aren't necessarily "full-blooded" Persians - many of these people have some "Indo" ancestry (hence their physical appearance).
I don't feel that Afghani culture had any impact, or at least significance in Bollywood history (or in Indian films in general). However, Afghanistan had given Bollywood a number of noteworthy stories to reproduce into films.

oye_sonu:

I don't speak, or at least I don't believe I speak any South Asian language fluently. I have somewhat understood what you had said above though (I'm learning Hindi through Bollywood films, Indian television serials, etc). I was born, bred and still living in England. I prefer not to say what my ethnicity or religion is - my opinions, like everyone else's are individual to my own and I don't want to receive prejudice responses based on my ethnic and religious background.[/b]
PS:
Shahrukh Khan is half Pakistani-Pathan, NOT half Afghani-Pathan. http://www.bollywoodhungama.com/features/2...2043/index.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shahrukh_Khan#Biography"Khan was born to Muslim parents of Pathan ethnicity in New Delhi, India. His father, Taj Mohammed Khan was a freedom fighter from Peshawar, Pakistan. His mother Lateef Fatima was the adopted daughter of Major General Shah Nawaz Khan of the Janjua Rajput clan, who served as a General in the Indian National Army of Subash Chandra Bose."
Like I said in my previous response, one should not automatically assume that a Pathan is Afghani without any reliable evidence.
