Avinash Vyas was another of those several composers who got genre-restricted, and never, despite their obvious talent, made it to the big league. This talented composer was stuck in that rut which swallowed up so many promising creativists in the '50s - the devotional-mythological. Yet, when he did compose, even if it were a pulp Nirupa Roy-Trilok Kapoor mythological like 'Naagmani', Avinash Vyas's talent was up there, large as life, for everyone to savour. "Pinjre ke panchhi" has become a sort of Pradeep anthem over time, and Geeta's "Aaj nahin to kal bikhrenge yeh baadal", despite owing something to Lata's immortal "Aaj nahin to kal bikhar jaayenge yeh baadal" from Dada Burman's 'Mashaal' in 1950, has its own distinct appeal to us listeners even today. Here, then, are three 'Naagmani' numbers, to rekindle the Avinash Vyas memory:
