Full Version: Films Of The '50s - Nadaan (1951)

None of us can ever forget the infectious Carribean rhythm of Lata-Chitalkar's "Shola jo bhadke", with which the delightful 'Albela' came to an end ... if you watch the song closely, you find the lead drummer coming forward with glee written all over his face ... that gentleman was the Goanese Chic Chocolate, also known as the Louis Armstrong of India, who was C Ramchandra's assistant and, in a handful of movies, also an independent composer in his own right ... One such film was the 1951 'Nadaan', and a hearing of the songs from that movie show that Chic Chocolate had the C R genes well ingrained in him. Here're 4 'Nadaan' ditties [which include the two versions of Talat's memorable "Aa teri tasveer bana loon"], for your listening pleasure ...

Thanks a lot Hari, for reminding us this great album of fifties.

Yes, Bobby Bhai, a very nice song" Aisa kya kusoor kiya dil jo choor kiya nazron se door kiya mere piya" it has 2 versions, I had recorded all the 78 rpms of the movie on the cassette which I lost it and even I saw this movie on VHS rented some 10 years back and now I am not able to find either VHS/VCD/DVD of this movie. What a pity I was myself surprised to note that Rafi Saab sang this duet with LataJi and not Chitalkar for the movie version and as usual he excelled.

Also the special feature of the song "O bhai machhua tere jaale ka toota re taaga - Lata & Chitalkar" is based on Goan folk song and its simply excellent.

Its a pity that RPG/HMV has no knowledge of these songs.
