21 Gems of Geeta Dutt

I continue with my Gems Series. This 5th one in the sequence is devoted to the incomparable Geeta Dutt, whose melodies haunt us throughtout our life once we come across and listen to them.

My idea behind the Series of 21 Gems is that everyone should have the collection of best songs of these singers and music directors and lyricists (Yes, you guessed it correctly, all are going to grace this series!). So that in a compact ACD/Pen drive we can have all of them together for our listening pleasure.

So here we go with Geeta Ji's first gem, a real one from the film Do Bhai.

The 9th Gem of Geeta Dutt

Dear Shri Gop Babu,

Thank you for recalling the fact of the sad demise of Geeta Dutt Ji on this day 36 years back. Her life is indeed a poignant tale of unbearable sufferings at the hands of otherwise a very noble man. Here is this thread's tribute to Geeta Dutt through one of her saddest duets.

Hi Subhash

It was indeed a great effort from you for compiling gems of Geeta ji. I am sorry I was away from HF for a long time, but I am back now. May I take the liberty of completing this list of 21 gems (I see that you have completed 18 so far).

Dear Shri Parag Ji,

It is simply wonderful to read your post after such a long wait. Initially everybody was really anxious about where you have vanished. Later the anxiety subsided, I suppose after contacts were made with your people at Pune. I also started coming here after some gap. It will be really nice of you to add Geeta Ji's three gems, which I myself do not have. Can you please choose them from her Geeta Roy days with relatively unknown MDs.

Your coming to my humble thread means I should now start a thread of her songs with some new theme.

Awaiting your uploads for the pleasure of downloading them for my listening.

Some (Hopefully) New Ideas for Geeta Ji's Threads!

Dear Parag,

I consider it a great honour you have bestowed upon me by completing this thread dedicated to our immortal Geeta Ji.

I will download the last two songs and write to you again in your new thread of her songs of joy and 'josh'! I am glad that you are now starting new threads based on her songs. May I take the liberty of suggesting a few topics:

1. Ek aur Anek: Geeta Dutt sings for Various composers

I have started such a thread on Rafi Saab. We can have her only one choice song under every composer

2. Geeta Dutt and her Heroines

You might have already done this!

3. Geeta Dutt in Her Nine Moods

A collection of her songs in nine defined moods. (more shades of each mood can be there.)

4. Geeta Dutt duets with various singers

One duet with each other singer: male and female

I hope at least one of these ideas is new and clicks with you!

With regards,

Subhash G Deo

Dear Subhash

A little search on the net for Navras, gave me this information :

Navras - a Sanskrit word which, broken down, means nine ("nava") emotional states ("rasa") that are exhibited during music, drama, and the visual arts, the experience of which bring about a state of transcendental bliss. The nine different states are as follows:
1. Love
2. Humor
3. Pathos
4. Wrath
5. Heroism
6. Horror
7. Disgust
8. Supernaturalism
9. Peace

I think we can find 1 song per mood if this is what is in your mind as well. Not very sure about 8 though.

Dear Subhash

(1) About 1 song per composer, I have already started a topic with the title "75 composers : 75 songs". We can use this thread to present this lovely theme.

Here is the link to that thread :

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=37221

(2) About duets with other singers : I had presented a thread in November 2006 on the eve of her birth anniversary. Here is the link to that thread :

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?showtopic=29620

I could get 25 songs in that.

We can develop this thread and make it to about 50 songs with various singers.

(3) Songs for various actresses, here is the link :

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?show...mp;#entry344560

Check post number 65 for the latest list.

Friends, lets work together to develop these (and many more) concepts.

Cheers

Dear Parag,

I knew you must have already had threads with those ideas! But good that I now have ready material to copy (songs I can always add to them in any case).

While we can certainly take these threads further, I will just be your Man Friday in the whole venture (and will be mighty glad about it too).

Now I must reck my grey cells really hard and find out some really new idea for a brand new thread of her songs!

By the way, earlier you had said that Geeta Ji has about 550 songs. I quoted you to Shri Mahesh Ji, and he said that there are about 2200 songs of her.

Since you are now back, I would like to know the exact figure. Also, the list of songs which you have still not been able to get. I am sorry you must have posted these details already, and so pl just give me the link.

Dear Subhash
Thanks for all the kind words. Whatever little I have done in Geeta ji's forum is my tribute to her, mainly with the songs which I got on HF itself.

About her number of songs. What I said in my thread is that the total number of songs posted so far (till that point in time) were about 550.
Check this topic and go to post 38

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?show...36412&st=30

The list in excel format is here courtsey great efforts by Vivek

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=phA...XuaAy17J_r2k1TA

We can continue to develop this list to make it to 1000 at least. Mahesh ji is one of the biggest fans and most respected member on HF. He only told me that Geeta ji sang about 1500 songs in Hindi films. The total of 2200 must be including private songs, Bengali songs and Gujarathi songs amongst others.

Regards
Parag
