Dear Usha fans, For many years now I am in search of an absolute classic of Usha Mangeshkar. It goes like this "Woh jo khat tune mohabbat main likhe the mujhko - Ban gaye aaj woh saathi meri tanhayee ke". All my efforts to find this amazing ghazal on the internet, movie databases/ archives, music shops, discussion boards, bulletin boards etc have gone futile. I love this ghazal by Ushaji & would be grateful to anybody who can give me information about how to acquire the same, who wrote the lyrics and who composed the music etc. Kindly contact me on rpendse@hotmail.com and thanx to all!

Welcome 2 our 4rum Raj! smile.gif

Wow! wub.gif You have exquisite taste in music. This ghazal is indeed a classic like you said, it used 2 be a regular on All India Radio ( Vividh Bharati ) for many years, don't know the situation now.

Usha M sang it so beautiful, it's a difficult composition too being semi-classical based. I have this ghazal on tape, haven't got around 2 transferring it, else i wud have uploaded it 4 you rightaway.
But don't you worry, this 4rum is full of passionate music collectors, who wud never disappoint you.

G'Morning Noorie,

You are the second person in the last 20 years who actually knew this ghazal. (The first I came across just a week ago is someone who lives in the US). After so many years of endless searching, I was even beginning to doubt if it were sung by Usha Mangeshkar.

It's a great pity that you have this absolutely marvellous ghazal on tape (to be perfectly honest, I am extremely jealous of you)......and you can't upload it. But thanx a million for the reply. Things are definitely looking up and there's something positive to look forward to. Could you please inform me as to who is the lyricist and the music director?

I hope other members also contribute to this thread and eventually it materializes into my getting the song in whatever format.

Thanx again Noorie for rplying!

Raj P

Just got to read your posts Raj. I wish I had known that this ghazal is rather rare, then I might have paid closer attention 2 the other details. sad.gif The fault isn’t entirely mine, I was just a teen at the time, so I was taken in by the charms of the song rather than anything else.

The one thing I am sure of is that it’s part of a non-film album, since it used to be played only in the sugam sangeet programmes.

I know how badly you wish to hear the song, and I wud help make it come true rightaway if I cud, but I am only beginning 2 learn the complicated process of digitizing music from tapes, and it cud take some time, me being a clumsy learner. You shouldn’t have to wait that long, and I hope for your sakes you don’t, there’s always the lucky chance that someone wud have it ready 4 upload. Rarest of rare songs are shared on HF all the time, so you never know when it might be your turn.

Just don’t give up hope, and in the meantime let me try and hurry up the learning process. Either way you wouldn’t be disappointed. smile.gif

Hello Noorie,

Today is the happiest day of my life...........I received the .mp3 file of this beautiful ghazal and I have been listening to it non-stop for the last 3 hours! It's more than 25 years that I last heard it and I guess the wait was so worth it. WOW....Usha Mangeshkar's voice makes this ghazal so life like....it's almost as if I am sitting in Royal Albert Hall and Ushaji is singing in front of me. It's a pity that I still don't know the lyricist or the music director. Ushaji has done complete justice to the tune....with those little breaks in her voice to show the pain she feels.

If you (or anyone who is reading this thread) want this ghazal, just email me. I want to spread it to as many people as possible before it completely dies out.

Hello Noorie and behenji.turned.mod,

I have no idea how to upload a file and I have no clue about why the messages are disabled although I did get an email sent through HF by Prabhakar for the MP3 file.

Please send me an email on rpendse@hotmail.com from your email and I will attach the ghazal in my reply to you. Thanx!
