That reminds me of interesting joke... actually it had happened in reality but later on spread everywhere in mumbai as joke :-
Before you read the joke you need to know this word "Jhaala" and "Jhaaliyo".
Jhaala in marathi means "happened" and "jhaaliyo" in guju means "to hold on to something"

Once a guju was travelling in mumbai's famous local train ..... where everyone pushing in and out of the train to make their way.... So this guju on a push from the crowd , fumble a little bit and with a anger on his face looking around at what was going on... On this a marathi gentleman standing next to him asks "Kay Jhaala" meaning what happened..... On this the guju replies " Jhaaliyo hout tau padiyo naa hout" ... meaning if I was standing while holding on to something ... would not have fallen ....

These sound like Suraiyya renditions. This is strictly my opinion. There are a couple of notes in the couplets that don't sound like her, but Suraiyya hasn't sung many semi-classical songs.

I said I do not think it is Asha and stand by it--the singing does not sound like Suraiyya to me either for the simple reasong that I do not think she could sing such numbers--otherwise not too sure abt her voice variations but all her songs that i have heard are usually relatively simple with minimal pitch fluctuations and variations in tune.
Where are SB and Mohdsaab?

I agree that neither song sounds like Asha. Aur Suraiaya bhi nahi lagte.
There was (is???) a Hindustani classical singer called Nirmala Devi who
was known for her rendition of thumris. She is in fact the mother of actor
Govinda. The voice sounds like hers. I have not heard her much so
standard disclaimers apply. I compared the voice in these couplets with
that of the voice in the song "Ulfat ke jaam pila pila mere saaqi" from the
same film sung by Nirmala Devi. And it seems to be a match.
Nirmala Devi is also one of the voices in the song from "Bawarchi" by Madan
Mohan "Bhor bhayi aaya andhiyaara".

So, this COULD be the "Nirmala" who has sung one of the other songs in this
film and could also be voice of this unknown woman.

I really was puzzling over who this Nirmala was who seems to be part of so many discussions recently. Mystery solved. Both Govinda and his elder brother sing quite well too.

The mule retracts. SB's observation on Nirmala Devi makes the most sense. I've altered my previous posts accordingly.

It is true though that Suraiyya has sung semi-classical songs. Her ability to do so is much understated and under-documented.

You see you'll have to excuse my mule once in a while. After all, we're still roaming down Hollywood Boulevard heady with the dizziness of success.

Yes of course I'll fade out... but just wanted to know this was all to the song. Yes, Cooledit zindabad!

Hiss, fade in, fade out, lowered the volume too... hope it sounds acceptable I could isolate very little of the noisy part to work with. Ideally when digitizing, its always good to record a sec or so before and/or after the actual piece. Helps when editing out all the hiss and crackle!

My friend Pulkit also uses Cool Edit and talks abt this 1 sec before and after. Wish I knew how to do it all. But then as Unni says hum to buddhu hai--hamare samajh mein thode hi aayega.
