party2.gif Last weekend I hit the movie hall to this one!!!!!! It was a good past time!

I enjoyed the movie even though I was not too keen about seeing it. Sallu Khan aint my favourite!!!!!! The thought of seeing him 2 1/2 hrs was not a very easy thing for me!!

The movie starts off with baby Sallu.. growing up to be a hot headed angry man! (a good 10 minutes of growing up!!!!!!!!!!!!) He kiks the s*** out off the basket ball players who try to paw his fiancée Amrita Arora! The next scene is Sallu in the court with the judge listing out the past history of bashing! He is pardoned with a fine of 3000 bucks ! What follows.. is sad.. poor Sallu is dumped by Amrita who watches him bash up the guys who pawed her. She tells him she won’t be able to live with him if he has such a short fuse, after all everyone makes mistakes and that he should not have been so tough with those fellows! Wah kya insaafi hai for a man who saved her izzat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Poor Sallu's matrix acts going waste!

He leaves town dejected, with his granny's blessing (our good ol' Shashikala playing the grandma!),leaving a younger sister who is still in college with granny dear.

He lands in Goa (now I wonder when Goa locations changed to Mauritius!!) - you get to see the most svelte and shiny figures in bikinis dancing to a fast music! Our hero lands in the beach when he spots Priyanka Chopra dancing with the crowd! His eyes follow her... (should we say pehli nazar mein hi pyar hogaya!).
Guess who Sallu is? He is the lifeguard~!! Now sometimes he changes to a manager of the resort sometimes lifeguard. With a double job he must be earning a good packet to fill the 4 hundis placed in his room (one for granny's eye operation, one for sister's education, one for her marriage and another for god!)

He goes in search of Mr.Duggal (Khader Khan) , when he bumps into Rajpal Yadav (a cute hippie-like dressed Pandit!!!!!!!!!!!!!) who leads him to Khader Khan. Khader who has had a knock on his head, many years ago, and a clot in his head which travels to all parts of his brain - and each day he is either blind, deaf, mute, or a pagal. Sallu lands in Mr.Duggal's in the room upstairs which is facing the Colonel's House - Colonel sahab is Amrish Puri - Priyanka's dad (Priyanka's name is Rani). Ab shuru ho jata hai line maarna..

Each time poor Sallu makes an attempt to befriend the dad, everything goes haywire.. either he kicks a ball straight onto Amrish's head making deaf, or breaking his neck by driving a bike directly into him.

Now enters the villain! Akshay Kumar (my handsome stud!!) - who comes to share the room at Duggals. He has the roving eye on PC and he puts an obstacle in Sallu's path each time Sallu's makes an attempt to show his love to his PC. All along Sallu keeps a tab on his anger (oh ya I forget before leaving for Goa, he had promised his Granny darlin that he wont blow his fuse!)

It is fun to watch Akshay and Sallu together (thank god it is not all brawn!!!!!!!!!!!) Ofc darlin Sallu does expose his ripping muscles - hey you know what he has pierced his navel!!!!!!!!!!! now now is that supposed to make him look more s**y? No idea!

The finale is kewl.. you get to see all the cricketeers.. Siddu and Sajad Khan in the commentator's box!!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kapil Dev marroing dialogues in Punjabi !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now now if I tell you everything you won’t make a move to go and see the movie.. comon folks part some bucks to watch this DD movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lot of errors in direction! The car registration from a foreign registration changes to Goan registration as it is being driven! Phew aaj kal mobile RTO hai kya?

David Dhawan, Director (Musjhse Shaadi Karogi) 2004
By IANS
Aug 03, 2004, 14:20

I've decided to reinvent my style: David Dhawan

His "Musjhse Shaadi Karogi" has been declared a huge hit and David Dhawan admits that the recently released Priyanka Chopra-Akshay Kumar-Salman Khan starrer is more special than most of his other films.

He describes the film as a combo that is aimed at the classes and the masses, a film you and your driver would both love.

The director of films like "Biwi No 1" and "Aankhen" says he realised that there was a sameness in all his comedies and needed to win over a new generation of audiences as well as fight a new breed of filmmakers.

The result is "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi", which has a new look even though the trademark David Dhawan style is still unchanged.

Nursing a terrible cough and cold, David talks about his rapport with old favourite Salman and Akshay and his future plans that include a film with Salman and Katrina Kaif.

People wonder if "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi" (MSK) is the reinvention of David Dhawan?

Ha ha. Yes and no. Of course, I've changed with the times, one has to. But my trademark style remains unchanged in its basics. Why should I change when my style has kept me going for so many years? No, I'll never change that. MSK looks different from my other films. I've worked much harder on the film's look and music. So far, I've targeted all my films at the masses. But now I've started looking at what audiences in the multiplexes want. Admittedly, they look for the same things as audiences in single theatres. But a little more sophistication. I've given them that.

So are you looking for a new audience?

I'd never make a film that would put off my hardcore audience. David Dhawan is what he is today because of them. We talk of new cinema. But it's the old style that still turns on the audience. I can't make a "Spider-Man" in India even if I tried. We can't afford it. But there're so many other things that I can do over here, so I'm not complaining. Cinema is a vast ocean. After so many years in the industry I think I've so much to learn and so much to give.

Was it difficult handling two stars like Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan in MSK?

It was amazing to get Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar to work together. And even more amazing to watch them work so comfortably together. Though they play rivals in the film, there's no element of rivalry between them in real life. I can't tell you what a pleasure it was to work with these guys. With Salman I had worked many times before -- Salman and I've done "Judwaa" and "Biwi No 1". We can communicate without words on the sets. I discovered we're still capable of coming up with surprises. His rapport with Akshay is the USP in "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi".

Akshay was new. We had worked together just once together in "Mr & Mrs Khiladi". What I liked is that he really respected Salman. There was an air of a picnic on the sets. We never realised when we started and when we ended. You'll see all the actors in my film -- Akshay, Salman, Kader Khan, Amrish Puri -- as never before. And Priyanka Chopra with whom I've worked for the first time, was just the right influence on the two badmaash boys (Salman and Akshay). It was great fun.

You're now directing Salman in the latter's home production"

Yes. We haven't named the film as yet. Besides Salman and Katrina Kaif, I'm working with Sushmita again after "Biwi No.1" and with Arshad Warsi for the first time. They're both so refreshing. And Katrina! She's an incredibly good looking girl. I haven't seen so much beauty on screen before. She's going to give the other girls a run for their money. Yes, it's inspired by "Cactus Flower". But we can't have "Cactus Flower" in Hindi. It's a completely new script.

Do you think comedies aren't taken seriously in India?

We need laughter in our lives. That's why action films aren't doing well. Now even Karan Johar's productions have comic subplots in them. I agree my comic formula got a little stale. I realised there was a sameness in all my comedies. I realised I had to win a new generation of audiences and also fight a whole new breed of filmmakers who were in touch with the pulse of the youth.

For someone of age and experience it's very difficult to find a new voice of expression. But I decided to reinvent my style. My family and friends helped me do that. My 20-year old son in America pushed me into experiencing cinema the world over. I realised the look and the feel of cinema had changed everywhere. I was willing to learn. I adapted myself very quickly. Now I feel I'm part of the younger generation. My son is learning filmmaking in the US. He's here for his summer vacations and he's assisting me on my new Salman-Katrina film.

Is "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi" your most youthful film to date?

We have used the "Baywatch" beachside looks, the colours, sand and sounds. But the masses won't know the difference. I'll fool them good and proper ha ha. The entertainment ratio is the same. But the essence of satire has been lowered. The performances are less aggressive. It's classy and massy. You and your driver would both love the film. My writer Anees Bazmi and I worked so well in the past. Then he went away to direct his own films. Now he's back with me. You know, a full-fledged comedy is an impossibility in these parts. There has to be a note of seriousness somewhere in the comedy. "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi" has it.

How was it making a film for Sajid Nadiadwala?

We already made "Judwaa" with Salman together. All three of us have changed since then, and so have audiences. At a time when relations between producers and directors are going for a toss, Sajid behaved like a younger brother throughout. He let me do whatever I wanted. He was so accommodating, told me I wasn't used properly in my recent films, urged me to find my bearings again. He just opened his coffers, even decided to recreate Goa in Film City (Mumbai) when he felt we'd work together on a set.

Are you ready to go international?

You know, I feel that in mood and look my comedy is a lot like the small Hollywood comedies. I've two hours and 30 minutes of comedy to give in every film whereas they've only 90 minutes of the stuff to offer. If I go abroad, I'm sure to do a damned good job. Now I won't be making two films a year. I'm taking it easy, re-learning and finding my bearings all over again. I'm sure I'll soon make a film abroad.

Do you miss working with Govinda?

People think our pair has split. But this isn't true. I met him recently and told him that we must work together again. I'm working on a bright new idea. What we did together can never be replicated by anyone. Not even by me with any other actor. We'll surprise everyone very soon.

What are you thoughts now?

All these years as a filmmaker and I've never caused anyone trouble, never delayed any producer's project. Even the little run-in I had with Ajay Devgan was soon resolved. We worked in "Hum Kissi Se Kam Nahin". The film flopped. But our relations improved. At times things go wrong... But by God! I'm looking at a much larger picture now. I want to make an emotional film. Remember my "Swarg" with Rajesh Khanna and Govinda? If I get a subject like that, I'd immediately make an emotional film.

Right now I'm very happy about "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi". Everybody says it's going to do well. Seriously, in my career of 35 films no film has got such attention. After so many years I'm still here directing movies. What more could I ask for. I feel wonderful. God is great.

I think I'll rent this one. If I hadn't read Nimii's review, I wouldn't have even bothered to rent it. I'm not sure if this is as cool as David Dhawan got with Govinda, but lately, the magic hasn't been there. I'll reserve my comments, till I watch it.

Watched this one too last weekend. I am glad I didnt go to theater to watch it. What the heck was that??

Salman was better, AK is getting better and better at acting but Priyanka???? I mean ok I admit she looks like Parveen Babi and has hot looks but acting?? who asked her to act in movies? That person should be jailed.

Amrish Puri ki acting ka kachra kar diya. Kader Khan should seriously retire. He is too old now.

Some of the ideas in these movies are so crazy.. I dont have words to describe.... what in the world was "aaj andhe hai", "aaj behre hai" about????????????????????? DD thinks this is hit movie?

My sis wanted to see it so got it. Chose this one over Hum Tum. Now I have to wait til next wknd for HT.

Akki is sooo good. Btw, do you remember which movie had his great action scenes. I somehow got a feeling it was Awara Paagal Deewana where he does those Jackie Chan-like actions scenes but I am not sure. I wanna see that one again. If someone can recall that movie. Thx.

Among all the movies... AK's all time best was Hera Pheri... the new one with Paresh Rawal and Sunil Shetty... I think since than he has been very much appreciated in this kinda role , even MSK his role is just like that of irritating another hero /co -star...

MSK was not one of the gr8 David Dhawan kinda movie... Sallu also I guess has lost charm after all that come back from the JAIL think... no matter how hard he tries ... he always ends up looking serious even in a comic role... reminds me of that Khaman Dhokla shot of HDDCS... sameer lambee hawa ka jhoka... was soo comic... but now David Dhawan should start looking for some other actors for his comic films.

Yes, I loved the movie and the song too, though Ole Ole was more popular. I think this movie introduced Saif, or maybe he got more popular after this one. I was so thrilled with the movie... and then of course I came here and saw Sabrina!!

Speaking about Akshay Kumar....
Totally agree @ Hera Pheri. He was fantastic and so were Paresh Rawal and Sunil Shetty. Must have watched it like 20 times. AK's entry was too funny... and that song where he is surfing on sand and with hummer in desert LOL just hilarious!!!
acting bhi bahot hi achhi ki.

Watched parts of Awara Paagal Deewana last night again. THAT is the movie I was looking for... AK's actions scenes are best. He looks so handsome!!!!!!!!!!!
