Thanks Reeth for the info on Baby Naaz and Naazima.

Baby Naaz was simply unbelievable along with Baby Tabassum. Imagine, during those days for a chld to have such talent. Later, the Irani sisters (Daisy and Honey) could be said to be of matching talents.

As for Naaz, she remained for us "Baby Naaz" throughout, i.e. this term was so much in use. Her performance in BOOT POLISH was such a treat.

It's a pity Naazima and Naaz could not cut much ice after they grew up their baby roles.

Welcome nasir smile.gif .....i think most child artistes were not able to make it big once they started acting in adult roles ,recently Jugal hansraj too failed to make any great impact though he had such a wonderful role
in Masoom.......

Right SuDeo. So did Nanda outgrew her Baby status and became a successful heroine. But Baby Naaz's status was almost a cult. Daisy and Honey were very prolific child artistes. Neetu Singh - Born July 8, 1958

Neetu was the seventies' emblem of teenage aspirations. She lived their dreams and spoke their themes at
a time when contemporary leading heroines like Hema Malini, Zeenat Aman, Raakhee and Rekha were well
past their prime....Neetu enjoyed a head start over other heroines because she stepped into the studios
while still at school. Egged on by an ambitious mother, the Delhi-born Baby Sonia debuted in films with a
tiny role as Rajendra Kumar's sister in Suraj (1966). She lent lip sync to the famous beggar song Gareebon
ki suno, in Dus Lakh (1967)
. But it was the huge success of Do Kaliyan that assured her a home
and career in Mumbai. Based on The Parent Trap (1961, starring Hayley Mills, Brian Keith, Maureen
O'Hara, Joanna Barnes), Do Kaliyan (1968)
offered Neetu a dream double role. She played twin sisters
who plot a reconciliation between their estranged parents (Mala Sinha and Biswajeet).

She made her debut as a heroine in Rikshawala (1972), which flopped. She took a small role in Yaadon
Ki Baarat
(1973), which became a hit, and her sizzling dance number to the song "Lekar hum" brought
her so much attention that she was immediately elevated to heroine roles again...
Still a starlet, Neetu's career got a windfall when the new superstar of the day, Rishi Kapoor, found
he desperately needed a young actress to pair opposite him after his Bobby costar Dimple Kapadia
left films to marry Rajesh Khanna. Neetu effortlessly slid into the slot and signed a slew of films
with the hot new Kapoor, though they yet had to have a single release together.

The Rishi-Neetu team lived up to their producers' expectations. And how! When Neetu and Rishi
danced to the duet Ek main aur ek tu in the campus caper Khel Khel Mein (1975), they held
the audience spellbound as their feet tapped and twirled across the screen.

Neetu, who had never been to college, effortlessly played the peppy collegian in Khel Khel Mein and
became a star. The hit pair were further fortified by Rafoo Chakkar, Kabhi Kabhie and Amar Akbar
Anthony
.

Hugely popular with the public and within the industry, a sweet-tempered Neetu signed many films
opposite marquee names like Amitabh Bachchan (Adalat, Parvarish, The Great Gambler,
Yaarana)
, Rajesh Khanna (Chakravyuh), Vinod Khanna (Yuvraj), Randhir
Kapoor
(Kasme Vaade), Shatrughan Sinha (Kaala Patthar) and Jeetendra (Dharamveer,
Priyatama).
....

Neetu's biggest asset was her surrender to her role, however inane. Her face never mirrored any
anguish she felt at the length of her roles in multi-starrers or at the illogical aspects of her characters.
Not surprisingly, she fitted in perfectly with Manmohan Desai's unerring sense of pulp in films like
Dharamveer, Amar Akbar Anthony and Parvarish.

Yash Chopra
gave her the author-backed role of an abandoned daughter seeking her mother's love in
Kabhi Kabhie (1976).Neetu followed this with a class act as the suspicious wife in another Yash
Chopra production, Doosra Aadmi (1977). Director Ramesh Talwar captured a slice of
Rishi-Neetu's offscreen relationship in the film. In a scene where the couple breaks into a fight while in bed
, he gave Rishi and Neetu a free hand to make changes at will. After viewing this sequence, it proves difficult
to decide who tops whom in the natural acting sweepstakes....
Truly, Rishi and Neetu were amongst the last in the dwindling breed of dream star pairs.
Neetu's prolonged adolescence onscreen was abruptly interrupted when beau Rishi Kapoor proposed
marriage in 1979. Ironically, the early starter hung her boots much before her time had run out...

She acted in about 60 films......
On the clout metre, Neetu was always in the top five but never in the top three. She would have nine or 10
releases a year in the late 1970s...
Neetu was 21 at the time she was married to Rishi Kapoor. She was at the top of her career, having just
been nominated for a Filmfare Award as Best Supporting Actress for Kaala Pathar (1979) but she
retired. At that time it was customary for actresses married to the famous Kapoor family to retire after
marriage and Neetu left films.

Neetu Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor have two children. Riddhima their daughter is a fashion designer and
recently married to a Delhi based industrialist called Bharat Sahni. Their son Ranbir Kapoor is
an upcoming film actor. ....

Thanks Reeth for the info on Praveen Chowdhary and Kumud Chuggani.

Praveen Chowdhary was a buxom beauty but she couldn't make it and remained relegated to the lower rung of actors. I liked her role in my favourite 'PROFESSOR'.

I remember Kumud Chuggani for the reason that being an avid fan of horror films, I was eagerly waiting for Manoj Kumar's POONAM KI RAAT which I finally got to watch at the Capitol Cinema opposote the then Victoria Terminus Railway Station (now CST Rly Stn., Mumbai). It was said that Manoj Kumar was introducing new talents. Kumud Chuggani was one of them and was the heroine of the movie. Others were Nandini (I don't know what happened to her thereafter) and Shiv Kumar. There are unforgettable songs in POONAM KI RAAT such as Lata's SAATHI RE, TUJH BIN JIA UDAAS RE and Rafi's DIL TA.RPE TA.RPAAYE. If I remember rightly, even the Mukesh's SAPNON MEIN MERE KOI AAYE JAAYE....was there.

Anyway Kumud Chuggani reminded me of POONAM KI RAAT. I wonder what made her quit the films. Was it because she was not a "Star Material?" I wonder! smile.gif

Sulakshana Pandit

Her story is the stuff Hindi melodramas were made of. It's a classic riches-to-rags story. But done with
a horribly contemporary twist.

At one time Sulakshana Pundit was the belle of the Bollywood ball. Slated to be Indian cinemas first
singer-actress after Noor Jehan and Suraiya, Sulakshana sang a number of hits at the peak
of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle's crooning reign.

Not only did Sulakshana get to sing extensively, she also played the lead opposite the top-most stars
of the 1970s including Jeetendra (Khandaan, Sankoch) and Sanjeev Kumar (Uljhan).
Sulakshana comes from a musically-inclined family. Her brothers are Jatin Pandit and Lalit Pandit, better
known as the composing duo Jatin Lalit. Her sister is actress and playback singer Vijeta Pandit
who had starred in the teen hit film Love Story (1981 ).
Sulakshana began her career as a child singer singing the song "Saat Samundar paar se" in
Taqdeer(1967) which she sang with the legendary Singer Lata Mangeshkar.
While recording songs for Mahua(1971) composer Hemant Kumar recommended Sulakshana
to take up Acting as he thought she could succeed as a Singing Star.

She had recorded a song "Mujhe pyar mein khat" for the film Hera Pheri(1975)which was
rejected by the music company and re-recorded by Asha Bhosle. Sulakshana who was rejected as
a singer got selected as the leading lady for the same film which also starred Amitabh Bachchan
and Vinod Khanna. Incidentally the song "Mujhe pyar mein" was picturised on Sulakshana
on-screen.

Sulakshana was mostly confined to playing glamour doll roles in films and seldom got a chance to display
her acting ability. She did play an author backed role in Anil Ganguly's version of Parineeta
which was named Sankoch (1976) where she got the opportunity to portray Lolita which was
earlier played by Meena Kumari in 1954 and later by Vidya Balan in 2005. Even in a film
like "Apnapan" (1977) where she played the leading lady, it was Reena Roy who walked
away with the accolades and also the Filmfare best supporting actress award for portraying a
role with grey shades. Pandit was always confined to play a typical Indian heroine who could do no
wrong and romance the Hero according to his convenience.

Even though Sulakshana never got an award for acting she did manage to remain in the bracket of
mid-level heroines of the 1970s alongside Leena Chandavarkar, Moushmi Chatterjee, Ranjeeta Kaur,
and Vidya Sinha.

Some of her popular hit films are Hera Pheri, Apnapan, Sankoch, Khandaan, Raaz, Thief of Baghdad,
Chehre Pe Chehra and Waqt Ki Deewar.

Some popular songs sung by Sulakshana are:

Tu hi saagar hai tu ki kinaara(Sankalp)
Beqarar e dil tu gaaye ja - Door Ka Raahi (1971)
Sapnon ka raja - Chalte Chalte (1975)
Bandhi re kahe preet - Sankalp (1976)
Somwar ko hum mile - Apnapan (1977)
Sona re tujhe kaise miloo kaise kasie miloo-Aankhin Dekhi(1978)
Boliye surili boliyaan - Griha Pravesh (1979)
Mausam lovely mausam - Thodisi Bewafaai (1980)
Mana teri nazar - Ahista Ahista (1982)
Jiske Liye Sab ko Chhoda - Saajan Ki Saheli (1981)

In her days, Sulakshana acted in over 50 films with the top heroes and banners of the time. She sang
most of her own songs......

She sang duets with accomplished singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd. Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Shailender
Singh and Udit Narayan.

Sulakshana has never married. She wanted to marry actor Sanjeev Kumar, but he turned down her
marriage proposal, because he never got over his heartbreak after actress Hema Malini rejected
him to marry Dharmendra.

Some of her popular films

Goraa (1987)
Madadgar (1987)
Dharam Kanta (1982)
Dil Hi Dil Mein (1982)
Chehre Pe Chehra (1981)
Raaz (1981)
Waqt Ki Deewar (1981)
Ganga Aur Suraj (1980)
Garam Khoon (1980)
Khandaan (1979)
Amar Shakti (1978)
Phaansi (1978)
Apnapan (1977)
Kasam Khoon Ki (1977)
Sankoch(1977)
Thief of Baghdad (1977)
Bundal Baaz (1976)
Hera Pheri (1976)
Raja (1975)
Salaakhen (1975)
Sankalp (1975)
Uljhan (1975)

Rebuffed in love, Sulakshana's world fell apart. She lost all her money and fameWorst of all, the siblings
whom she mothered into success refused to support her, rendering her emotionally bereft and homeless,Until
she was taken in by her brother-in-law composer Aadesh Shrivastava and her sister Vijayta.

Today Sulakshana is healed and whole again, and well on the way to recovering ground. Says Aadesh,
"When Vijayta suggested that Sulakshanaji come and stay with her, I immediately agreed. In fact it was
something I had been thinking of. Today she's with us, very much part of our family. Sulakshanaji is
ready to sing again. She keeps telling me to create a whole album for her. And I'm going to do just
that for her very soon."

She longs to sing again. "I'd feel highly obliged if my brothers (composers Jatin-Lalit), Anu Malik or
A R Rahman gave me a chance," she says softly. "My brothers feel I'm not big enough a name today.
I agree that they needed to work with well- established singers like Kavita Krishnamoorthy and Alka
Yagnik when they were just starting out and needed to find a foothold in showbiz. But once they'd done
that, they could have given me some songs to sing. Lataji is still going strong at 70-plus. I'm only 40-plus.
If they'd helped me out, I wouldn't be in the situation I'm in today. But I'm glad that the singers my brothers
have worked with have brought them popularity."

Sad story indeed Reeth and Jassi. It shows how Lady Luck plays truant in our lives, smiling and frowning as suits her.

Anyway, these songs mentioned above by Reeth, are just lovely:

Tu hi saagar hai tu ki kinaara(Sankalp)
Beqarar e dil tu gaaye ja - Door Ka Raahi (1971)
Sapnon ka raja - Chalte Chalte (1975)
Bandhi re kahe preet - Sankalp (1976)
Somwar ko hum mile - Apnapan (1977)
Sona re tujhe kaise miloo kaise kasie miloo-Aankhin Dekhi(1978)
Boliye surili boliyaan - Griha Pravesh (1979)
Mausam lovely mausam - Thodisi Bewafaai (1980)
Mana teri nazar - Ahista Ahista (1982)
Jiske Liye Sab ko Chhoda - Saajan Ki Saheli (1981)

It is a typical story where the younger lot shun the very person who sacrifices her life for them.......she is supposed to have been in a very bad state before she was given shelter by her younger sister Vijeta Pandit and Adesh....

Sunset song

Whatever happened to....... Sulakshana Pandit

I hesitate to enter the open doorway before me. Surely no one could be living here. The walls are bare, the rooms bereft of furniture, clothes lie strewn all over the floor. A door on the right leads to the kitchen, in which I can see only a gas stove. A meal couldn't have been cooked here in months. As I move warily into the living room, my escort addresses a figure on the four-seater sofa that has obviously seen better days. "There's someone to meet you."
The face that looks at me is familiar. But a far cry from the Sulakshana Pandit I knew, a woman who loved piling on the make- up, the clothes, the jewellery. The woman in front of me is dressed in a faded nightie teamed with a salwar, her neck weighed down by a massive brass figurine of Balaji hanging on a nada . The one thing that's intact about Sulakshana is her complexion. She may well have just stepped out of the beauty parlour after an expensive facial.
Her glazed eyes try to focus on the unaccustomed sight of a visitor and when I introduce myself, she excuses herself to freshen up.

I look around the living room. It is a large one by Mumbai standards--two flats have been combined to make up one comprising around 2000 square feet. Parts of the false ceiling have given way. There are no lights or fans. A wall unit stands, bare. A huge Ganpati calendar is stuck on the wall near a window that opens onto the sea.
Returning, Sulakshana leads me to a smaller room. Here, too, pieces of cloth lie scattered on the floor. A wall cupboard has obviously been removed from the room, but a full length mirror still dominates a wall. She promptly heads for it to check her face. And then gestures me to sit down on the floor for a chat.

"How I wish I'd won some prestigious awards so that film-makers and music directors would know that I'm still around," she sighs. "Somehow, I stopped getting work quite some time ago. But people still tell me that I have a good voice and that I should return to playback singing.
"Whenever I'm alone, I go to my shack on the beach and sing with my harmonium or tanpura. I know I can no longer return to lead roles in Hindi films but my voice is still good."
In her days, Sulakshana acted in over 50 films with the top heroes and banners of the time. She sang most of her own songs and, apart from the solos, had the opportunity to sing with Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Mukesh and Manna Dey.
She longs to sing again. "I'd feel highly obliged if my brothers (composers Jatin-Lalit), Anu Malik or A R Rahman gave me a chance," she says softly. "My brothers feel I'm not big enough a name today. I agree that they needed to work with well- established singers like Kavita Krishnamoorthy and Alka Yagnik when they were just starting out and needed to find a foothold in showbiz. But once they'd done that, they could have given me some songs to sing. Lataji is still going strong at 70-plus. I'm only 40-plus. If they'd helped me out, I wouldn't be in the situation I'm in today. But I'm glad that the singers my brothers have worked with have brought them popularity."
She then recalls the day Jatin had come over to show her his new car. "He asked me whether I'd like to keep it. Of course I couldn't. As it is, I hardly go out. He needs it more. I love Jatin, he's the son I never had," she smiles faintly. And says in an aside, "I wish they'd been given Devdas to score. They would have been ideal since we belong to Kolkata and they have the necessary classical background."
A long pause. Then, tears welling up, she gasps, "I've been very upset ever since my mother passed away three years ago. A very spiritual lady, she was the one who provided me with strong moral support all through my life. There's been no one to look after me since. Zindagi veerana ho gayee hai.
Wiping her eyes, she continues, "I know it's said that I'm pagal but that's not true. Music is constantly on my lips. And like so many other singers, I use my hands freely while singing. Is that pagalpan? Well, dil to pagal hai hi. Those who call me insane are just jealous of me. By the grace of God, I'm okay." Sitting up suddenly, she says with a determined look, "It was from my mother that I learnt never to give up. Even after my father left us, she single-handedly brought up the seven of us-- three brothers and four sisters. I looked after my brothers and sisters, I did whatever my mother asked me to do for them, no questions asked. But I'm not God, I'm just a human being. I've learnt that helping your family is fine but that you have to think of yourself and your last days too."
For now, she has her elder sister, Maya, and her 20-year-old nephew Varun living with her. She tells me pointedly, "But I haven't asked anyone for money. Roti-dal to kha hi leti hoon. I've done a lot for others. I'm confident that when I die, my brothers and sisters from the film industry will mourn me. The colleagues I worked with were always nice to me, they respected me. In fact, they're upset that I no longer have a car or even a telephone. But I'm above such material things."
How does she manage to survive? By Sulakshana's account, Jatin and Lalit give her some money every month. Her sisters--Vijayeta and Sandhya--help, too. Vijayeta provides the rations and visits her while Sandhya pays her electricity bill, she says. Tears flood her eyes yet again as she veers off into a memory and confides: "I loved Sanjeev Kumar so much. He was so nice. He'd given me a set made with yellow sapphires. But he spoiled my life. One day, after his bypass operation, we had gone to a Hanuman mandir in Delhi. I told him that I loved him and asked him to put sindoor in my parting. I told him to marry me so that I could look after him. But he refused, saying that he could never forget his first love, Hema Malini. He used to cry for her. His death shattered me."

She reflects, "Life is so short. Why fight? Each one of us has to go some day. What do you get by hurting others? Why get into yeh tera hai, yeh mera hai? Iske saath kaam karo, uske saath nahin. Why such politics?

That's a dirty game. Keep away from it." Music is her only solace, she says. Whenever reality gets too much to bear, she sings herself a song from Hum Dono; she calls it the song of her life:

Mein zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya
Har fikra ko dhuen mein udata chala gaya
Barbadiyon ka sog manana fizul tha
Barbadiyon ka jashna manata chala gaya
Jo mil gaya ussiko muqaddar samajh liya
Jo kho gaya main usko bhula ta chala gaya
Gham aur khushi mein farqa na mehsus ho jahan
Mein dil ko us maqaam pe laata chala gaya...
Her song plays in my mind as I prepare to make my exit. She waits with me for the lift. "It was nice speaking to you," she smiles.

"Dil halka hua."

first part
SP: Sulaxana Pandit
KS: Kamal Sharma

KS: Sulaxana-ji, Vividh Bharati ke is kaaryakram mein aapka bahut
bahut swaagat hai, namaskaar! Sulaxana-ji, jab baat chal rahi thi aap

jaisa samjhaa, aur jab uske baare mein zikr aata hai to meri aankhon
mein aansoo bhi aate hain ki main us bahen ki bahen hoon baDi jo aaj
mere sath mujhe itna pyaar deti hai ki kisi cheez ki kamee mehsoos
naheen hoti.

KS: matlab bahen bhi hai, saheli bhi hai, kai kai roop hai uske, hun?

SP: 'yes', saare roop, to Vijeyta ke saath hamne sochaa ki Vijeyta ke
saath koi gaana aana chaahiye, aur kudrat ki den dekhiye ek gaana aa
hi gaya.

KS: kaun sa gaana?

SP: "haathon mein meri bhi mehendi lagaayo, jaldi se jaayo mera dulha
leke aayo"

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -
Song: haathon mein meri bhi mehendi lagaayo (Dil Se Mile Dil)
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -

KS: Sulaxana-ji, yeh mera saubhaagya hai ki aaj mujhe aap ke saath
baiThne ka, aap se ru-ba-ru hone ka mauka milaa.

SP: yeh mera bhi saubhaagya hai

KS: jab bhi dekhaa to us chehre pe ek bholaapan, ek maasoomiyat.
yakeen hi naheen hota ki inhone kabhi bachpan mein sharaarat bhi kee
hogi.

SP: bachpan mein, aap yakeen naheen karenge ki main ek bahut
sharmilee laDkee thi. itni sharmilee ki meri koi bahene naheen.

KS: yeh to aap ko 'screen'pe dekh kar hameshaa lagta hai

SP: (laughs) magar main sach keh rahi hoon, mujhe apne aap ko baahar
laana aur 'challenge' ho gaya tha. agar mere 'father' naheen hote to
aaj main 'singer' naheen hoti, 'star' naheen hoti, kuchh naheen hoti,
bhagwaan ne unko apne haathon se banaaya tha bahut Khoobsoorat se,
bahut achchhe swabhaav ke the, bhole the, aur sabse achchhi baat yeh
hai ki woh bahut achchhe guru the. unki pandit Jasraj-ji itni taarif
karte rehte hain aaj bhi, aur kehte hain ki 'aajkal main Prataap
bhaiya mein milne laga hoon'.

KS: ab aap ne jab Pandit Jasraj-ji ka naam liya, to main unkaa bhi
bahut baDaa 'fan' hoon, bahut adbhut gaate hain, jab gaayan divyataa
mein parivartit ho jaata hai.

SP: deewaangee

KS: yeh cheezen uparwaala bahut meherbaani se hi detaa hai

SP: karmon se detaa hai

KS: to aap ke kitne bhaai bahen, us samay kahaan rehta tha aap ka
parivaar?

SP: pehle ham log sab Calcutta mein rehte the, wahaan par All India
Radio se pitaaji ko ek 'letter' aaya ki 'Pandit-ji, aap ko national
Programme mein gawaa rahe hain aur aap Bombay aa jaaiye'. to sab
bachche peechhe paD gaye ki 'ham bhi jaayenge ham bhi jaayenge',
Bambai dekhne ka sab ko shauk tha. to main aur mere baDe bhaai
Bandhir, woh bhi mere guru hain, unhone bhi mujhe bahut mada kee hai
laykaari mein, aur unse maine bahut laykaari seekhee hai, aur main
laykaari mein unko apna guru maanti hoon.

KS: yeh jo baarik kaam hai gaayiki ka

SP: bahut. to ham log yahaan par aaye aur pitaaji ka gaana 'national
recording' ho rahi thi, itne mein baal vibhaag mein ek bachchi naheen
aayi thi. to woh soch mein paD gaye. to unhone dekha ki Pandit-ji gaa
rahe hain to unke bachche bhi zaroor gaate honge. to woh aaye mere
bhaai ke paas. unhone poochhaa 'aap ko gaana aata hai?' maine
kahaa 'mujhe naheen, usko aata hai' aur baDe bhaai ki or haath
uThaaya. to is tarah yeh baat chalti rahi 'naheen yeh gaati hai,
naheen yeh gaata hai, naheen yeh gaati hai, naheen yeh gaata hai'. to
usne dekha ki 'time' nikal jaayega aur 'programme' bhi haath se nikal
jaayega, to unhone hamaara haath pakDaa aur seedhe 'mike' ke saamne
le gaye. aur kahaa 'hamko sunaaiye na ek gaana'.

KS: matlab, 'radio' se aap ka rishtaa bahut puraana hai!

SP: bahut puraana. maine fauji bhaaiyon ke liye bhi kaaryakram kiya
tha.

KS: mujhe yaad hai aap ne fauji bhaaiyon ke liye jo
Jaimala 'programme' hai usmein aap ne shirkar kee thi aur na keval
apne pasand ke gaane sunwaaye the balki unki hausla afzaai bhi kee
theen

SP: jee haan.

KS: 'acting' ka aap ka safar shuru huya tha Sankalp se.

SP: jee haan

KS: Sankalp mein aap ke 'hero' kaun the?

SP: Ramesh Sehgal-ji ke bee hi the. main safed kapDe pahenke, baal
vidhvaa hoti hai na, maine us kirdaar ko Ramesh Sehgal saahab ke
saath kaam karke nibhaaya to us 'acting' ke liye bhi mujhe 'award'
mile. main bahut Khushkismat hoon ki jinhone Sunil Dutt saahab ko
Railway Platform mein 'first introduce' kiya, unhone hi mujhe kiya.
to kitne 'great' honge woh ki unhone 'artistes' chune, 'industry'
ko 'artsites' deeye.

KS: Sankalp 1974 ki baat thi. phir 1975 mein aap ki 3 filmen aayeen.
to inmein aapki sabse pehle kaun film 'release' huyi, Uljhan?

SP: dekhiye, ismein chhoTi si baat main aap se kahoongi

KS: zaroor

SP: main Nadiadwala ki film Bundlebaaz mein kaam kar rahi thi, aur us
waqt mujhe ijaazat naheen thi ki main kisi aur film mein kaam karoon
jab tak ki Bundlebaaz naheen ban jaaye.

KS: woh to 1976 mein 'release' huyi thi

SP: 'yes yes yes'. to kya huya ki Bundlebaaz jab ban rahi thi to main
itni Khush thi, itni Khush thi ki Rajesh Khanna us zamaane mein bahut
baDe 'actor' maane jaate the, ek bahut baDaa 'set' lagaa huya tha, us
pe ek gaana 'picturize' kar rahe the. to ek din Sudesh Kumar aaye aur
kahaa ki 'ek meri film hai Uljhan, aap karengi?'

KS: arey waah. aap ke 'hero' the usmein Sanjeev Kumar. kyunki woh
film maine dekhi hai. aap ko lagaataar ek tanaav jhelnaa paDtaa
hai 'screen' mein aap ko taaki 'husband' par woh baat zaahir na ho
jaaye.

SP: jee haan

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------
Song: apne jeevan ki uljhan ko - Lata version (Uljhan)
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------

SP: saamne Sanjeev Kumar, jaise ki kisi bhi 'role' ko kar sakte the,
ek seemaa par khaDe naheen rehte the, woh apni raah banaate jaate
the.

KS: 'great' the

SP: aur 'I think' ki unke jaisa kalaakaar aaj ki 'date' mein naheen
hai.

------------ --------- --------- --------- ---------
Dialogues between Sanjeev & Sulaxana from Uljhan
------------ --------- --------- --------- ---------

SP: aap se keh doon ki main Bundlebaaz mein kaam to kar rahi thi,
Khush bhi thi, par jab Sudesh Kumar ne yeh 'picture offer' kee mujhe,
woh Uljhan, to maine sochaa ki hazaaron filmen hain, chalo isko bhi
kar dete hain.

KS: Sulaxana-ji, yeh aap ki doosri film thi na?

SP: jee haan

KS: aur doosri film jismein lambaa anubhav bhi naheen tha

SP: jee haan

KS: aur aap ko ek aisa 'drama' jismein bahut zyaada tanaav, lagaataar
aap ko jhelnaa hai aur 'screen' par woh dikhnaa chaahiye, taaki
dekhnewaala apne aap ko uske saath 'associate' kar sake

SP: bilkul sahee hai

KS: aur woh bhi uis tanaav ko, us 'pain' ko jheltaa hai jo aap ko
dekh raha hai. aap ko lagaa ki 'challenge' hai, aur saamne, jaisa ki
aap ne farmaaya ki Sanjeev Kumar jaisa 'actor' ho, us kad-kaaThi ka...

SP: o ho, jab unkaa naam aata hai to 'really' lagta hai ki aise
kalaakaar baar baar naheen paidaa hote.

KS: us samay aap ko thoDi 'nervousness' thi?

SP: bahut, balki peeTh ke peechhe chhup jaati thi, jab koi
aisa 'romantic scene' aata to main sharmaa jaati thi aur woh sakht
rehte the, gambheer. yeh naheen ki mere sharmaane par unhone
kuchh 'comments' keeye, kuchh naheen. sochte honge ki 'Sulaxana jo
hai, 'obviously' abhi abhi aayi hai filmon mein, pyaar mohabbatwaali
baat, aur tum 'daddy' bannewaale ho'. to aisi cheezen jab saamne aati
thi to thoDaa peechhe ho jaati thi, phir himmat karke saamne aati thi
aur 'dialogue' keh deti thi.

KS: jitne bhi shrotaa hain, jo is waqt baatchit ko sun rahe hain ,
Sulaxana-ji ka woh chehra, woh 'scenes' Uljhan ke, apne yaadon ke
galiyaaron se guzar rahe honge. ham Indian Beauty jise kehte hain,
bhaartiya saundarya jise kehte hain, us saundarya mein sharm hai,
nazaakat hai, aur sankoch hai

SP: bilkul sahi hai

KS: to kya bahut zyaada Khayaal karti hain ki yeh bhi kudrat ki den
hai?

SP: (laughs) yeh bhi kudrat ki hi den hai. ham log to 'singer' hain.

KS: Noorjehan aur Suraiyya ne jo paramparaa banaaee thi, aap ko main
usi parampara mein shaamil karta hoon

SP: 'oh my God! thank you'

KS: kyunki gaana aur abhinay, dono ek saath bahut 'rare' hai.

SP: Kishore Kumar bhi aise kalaakaar the jo film banaate bhi
the, 'direct' bhi karte the, aur 'producer' bhi the, aur sangeetkaar
bhi the, aur sarvaguN dhanee the

------------ --------- --------- --------- ------
Song: ge ge ge geli zaraa Timbaktu (Jhumroo)
------------ --------- --------- --------- ------

KS: ham abhi kuchh der pehle 'beauty' ki baat kar rahe the, sahi
maaeene mein jab tak aadmi andar se Khoobsoorat naheen hai, 'inner
beauty' jise ham kehte hain, mere Khayaal se woh zyaada sundar hoti
hai

SP: bahut baDi baat kahee aap ne

KS: bahut lambe samay tak log usey hi yaad rakhte hain

SP: bahut sahee

KS: aur aisaa bholaapan aap ke man mein gehraa asar chhoDtaa hai,
aur 'screen' par bhi zyaada apna bhi lagta hai. aisa...

SP: dekhiye main ek baat kehti hoon

KS: jee

SP: aap jis tarah se saundarya ki baat kar rahe hain, to woh
saundarya bhagwaan banaata hai. main yahi kahoongi ki jab main raaste
par chalti thi, 16/17 saal, ek 'church' hai, wahaan main mombatti
jalaati thi.

KS: oh

SP: main bhajan gaati thi ki 'bhagwaan mera achchha ho', sab jagah
jaati thi, to 'without my knowledge' ke log mujhe peechhe muD muD ke
dekhte the, ki yeh kaun hai yeh kaun hai, itni Khoobsoorat lagti thi.
phir ek baar main Manna-da ke saath koi gaana gaa rahi thi, mujhe
dekhte hi bole 'arey Sulaxana, tu 'heroine' kyun naheen banti?' (KS
laughs). maine kahaa ki 'main gaana gaane aayi hoon'. to bole
ki 'Noorjehan ki tarah gaa, aur Suraiyya bhi gaati theen, unke jaisaa
kaam bhi karo'. to maine kahaa ki 'achchha, jaise milegaa main
karoongi'. to is tarah se Manna-da ne, aur phir Kishore-da ko jab
pataa chalaa ki Sulaxana itni 'talented' hai, 'isko bhi usi
tarah 'effort' aa rahe hain jaise mujhe aate the' to kyun na isko
filmon mein kaam karaaya jaaye. unhi ke saath Hemant-da aaye, unhi ka
jo 'production' hai usmein kaam karo. ab dono mein kahaan haan kahaan
naa mujhe pataa naheen. to 'ultimately' yahi 'plan' huya ki naa woh
kaam denge naa main kaam karoongi aur dono ko apni apni jagah jaise
hain waise hi rahenge.

KS: Uljhan ki baat zaraa beech mein ulajh hi gayi, usko zaraa
suljhaana zaroori hai (SP laughs). Sanjeev Kumar ki baat chal rahi
thi, woh kabhi aap ko 'guide' karte the, bataate the chhoTi chhoTi
baaten, madad karte the?

SP: jahaan tak unkaa samjhaana, jo baat woh samjhaana chaahte the woh
Raj Jalani ko bol dete the ki 'Sulaxana ko bolo ki yeh 'scene' woh is
tarah se kare'. is tarah Sanjeev-ji ka bhi jab main 'scene' dekhti
thi, to mujhe lagtaa tha ki kya aankhen hain unki! kyaa unkaa chehraa
bhagwaan ne 'specially' banaaya hai! koi bhi insaan unko dekhe to jaa
naheen saktaa tha. bahut hi saadar dil aur bahut 'emotional' aur
bahut dooooooor ghanTon dekhnaa, woh 'scene' ko naheen dekhte the
jaise ham log baiThe huye hain, 'scene' de diyaa, 'scene' paDh liyaa,
to 'balcony' mein jaakar ghanTon khaDe rehte the jab tak 'light'
lagti thi.

KS: aur andar hi andar us par kaam kar rahe hote the

SP: kaam kar rahe hote. Naya Din Nayi Raat mein unhone nau 'role'
keeye the.

KS: to Sulaxana-ji, isiliye kuchh log jis naam se woh jaane jaate
hain 'actor' ke roop mein, woh wohi nazar aate hain 'screen' par bhi.
lekin kuchh log woh hote hain jo film ka 'character' hota hai woh
nazar aate hain. unkaa asli naam peechhe chhooT jaata hai

SP: bilkul sahee

KS: aur Sanjeev Kumar aise hi 'actor' the jo us 'character' mein
samaa jaate the, jo us 'character' ko amar banaa dete the.

SP: bilkul

KS: chaahe Sholay ke Thaakur saahab ki baat karoon, chaahe Aandhi ki
baat karoon

SP: aa haa

KS: Mausam ki baat karoon

SP: kya baat hai

KS: Koshish ki baat kare ham

SP: o ho ho

KS: bahut hi 'challenging role'

SP: kamaal kar rahe hain aap, itne achchhe filmon ke naam aap ko yaad
hai, main soch ke aa rahi thi ki in filmon ke naam main loongi
lekin 'I must give you credit' ki 'you know Sanjeev-ji so nearly',
main bahut 'contended' mehsoos kar rahi hoon.

KS: achchhe log sab ke dilon par raaj karte hain

SP: bilkul sahee, bilkul sahee kahaa hai

second part

SP: Sulaxana Pandit
KS: Kamal Sharma

KS: Sulaxana-ji, Vividh Bharati ke is kaaryakram mein aap ka bahut
bahut swaagat hai, namaskaar.

SP: namashkaar, shukriyaa

KS: Sulaxana-ji, jab aap ki yeh film bankar 'release' huyi, Uljhan ki
baat kar raha hoon main, to apno ka, doston ka, saheliyon ka
kya 'reaction' tha?

SP: dekhiye, ham jab woh film 'premiere' mein hi dekhe the, to jitne
dekhnewaale the woh sab 'spell bound' ho gaye. yaani unko yeh samajh
hi naheen aaya ki yeh nayi 'heroine' hokar Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev
Kumar, Farida Jalaal, Aruna Irani ke rehte huye, aur yeh laDki lekar
chali gayi 'cake'! sab mujhi ko yaad karte. to ek maasoomiyat usmein
yeh thi ki meri nanad aati hai Farida Jalaal mere paas aur kehti hai
ki brij aa gaya hai aur agar main uske paas naheen gayi to woh mere
saare pyaar bhare Khat mere pati ko de degaa aur main to kisi ko munh
dikhaane ke laayak naheen rahoongi. is tarah 'scene' pe 'scene', ham
jab 'dubbing' karte the tab 'oh Sulaxana, what are you doing,
tremendous!' sab mujhe, matlab, pyaar karte the ki yeh nayi laDki
hokar bhi itna achchha kar rahi hai.

------------ --------- --------- --------- ----
Song: subah aur shaam kaam hi kaam (Uljhan)
------------ --------- --------- --------- ----

SP: dekhiye Khat laana, Brij ko maarnaa, phir 'husband' se chhupaana
ki main Khooni hoon, aur uske baad mein ek chhoTi si guDiyaa
jaisi 'heroine' baiThke seh rahi hai yeh sab, main Khud ro deti hoon
kabhi kabhi us film ke baare mein sochke, baDi pyaari 'script' thi,
aur bahut 'tight' kaam tha, ek ek 'scene' main kabhi dekhti hoon to
main aankh band kar leti hoon, yeh 'scene' aayegaa, yeh 'scene'
aayega, aap yakeen naheen karenge Ashok Kumar-ji ne jo kaam kiya hai
us film mein, 'I am really', unki aatma ko shaanti de bhagwaan, woh
itne baDe kalaakaar hokar ek 'scene' diya unhone, to Sanjeev aaye
neeche, yeh aaye, Ashok-ji, to bole ki 'kyun bahu ko ghar se nikaala
gaya, kyun usko hathkaDi dilaayi, kiske bolne par 'police' aayi?', to
Farida Jalaal bolti hai ki 'naheen, jeejaaji main bolti hoon, main
Khooni hoon, main usey pyaar bhare Khat likhti thi, kamzori meri hai,
usey jo dhutkaar rahe hain, meri aatma gawaara naheen karti'. main
bolti hoon 'jab tak main hoon mujhe karne de, main agar kamzor paDee
tab koi aur baat hai'.

KS: jee

SP: magar woh 'scene' pe 'scene', 'scene' pe 'scene', 'scene'
pe 'scene', pyaare pyaare 'dialogues', aur ek sahee bahu, ek sahee
nanad ka jo kaam, woh mujhe zindagi bhar yaad rahegaa.

KS: ek baDaa kalaakaar wohi hotaa hai jo us chunauti ko nibhaa le
jaata hai aur apne abhinay se apni kalaa se ek charitra ko itna
vaastavik, itnaa vishvasniya banaa deta hai ki log uske saath
apne 'emotions share' karne lag jaate hain, usmein apne aap ko dekhte
hain. kahaani jab logon ke dilon par asar karti hai, baat tabhi banti
hai. aap ki ek film 1975 mein aayi thi Salakhen, jismein aap ne kaam
kiya tha Shashi Kapoor ke saath mein. usmein Shammi Kapoor bhi the
aur Mahmood bhi the usmein shaayad, hai na!

SP: jee jee, bilkul sahee

KS: aur sangeet Ravindra Jain saahab ka

SP: jee

KS: to Shashi Kapoor ke saath bhi aap ne kaam kiya, Shammi Kapoor ke
saath bhi, aur Rishi Kapoor ke saath bhi.

SP: jee. aap ko ek bataa doon, Kapoor 'family' mein aise kaun hain
jinke saath maine kaam naheen kiya? (KS laughs) sabse baDi baat yeh
hai ki Raj Kapoor saahab ne bhi mujhse kahaa 'tum filmon mein kaam
karo, gaana to milte hi jaayegaa'. aur bhari 'audience' mein
Shanmughanan Hall mein unhone 3000 aadmiyon ke saamne kahaa
ki 'Sulaxana Pandit will be my heroine in RK'. sunkar main gumsum ho
gayi. ek baar Shashi Kapoor kisi 'programme' mein aaye the aur unka
takiya kalaam huya karta tha 'jee mujhe Shashi Kapoor kehte hain'. to
uske baad sab ko biThaaya gaya, ham sab baiThe the 'programme' dekhne
ke liye, to Shashi-ji se kahaa gaya ki 'aap kuchh kahen'. Shashi-ji
ne kahaa ki 'main bahut Khush hoon ki aap log baiThe hain yahaan, aur
mujhe aap 'award' de rahe hain, is baat se main bahut Khush hoon, to
logon ne bolaa 'dialogues'. to unhone bolaa 'dekhiye, yahaan pe na
koi 'camera' hai aur na koi 'heroine' hai'. to 3000 'public' ne ek
saath kahaa 'Sulaxana Pandit!'. main Khud hairaan ho gayi. aur unhone
peechhe muDkar dekhaa ki aisa kaun hai Sulaxana Pandit jinka naam
kahaa jaa raha hai. to unhone kahaa ki 'jee maine kabhi inke saath
kaam to naheen kiya lekin kaam karna paDe to main inke saath zaroor
kaam karoongaa'. bhagwaan ki dayaa dekhiye saat filmon mein maine
unke saath kaam kiya. to aise bahut si cheezen insaan ke saath hoti
hain jo woh kabhi bhool naheen saktaa.

KS: waise Shashi Kapoor saahab ki baat karen to woh bhi apne parivaar
mein alag tarah ke vyakti hain jinhone apni tarah se, apne parivaar
mein, Khaaskar naaTakon mein jo yogdaan diya hai, paramparaa ko aage
baDhaaya, aur usko bahut sahejkar sambhaalkar rakhaa.

SP: sab hain aise hi. Raj Kapoor ke jo beTe hain Rishi Kapoor, mujhe
unke saath itna achchha lagaa, bilkul 'down to earth', zaraa ghamanD
naheen, 'on the contrary helping'. ek baar ham jaa rahe the, hamne
ek 'banner' dekhaa Mamta. usmein jitne bhi 'staff' the, 'helper'
aur 'hair dresser', sab ko maine bolke rakhaa 'kal 'ticket' laake
rakhna, 9 baje 'shooting' khatam hogi, phir ham log yeh film dekhne
aayenge'. uskaa ek gaana mujhe bahut pasand aaya tha, uskaa ek
ek 'line' main aap ko sunaati hoon

KS: zaroor zaroor

SP: (sings) "ham gawanwaa na jaibe ho binaa jhoolni..."

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ----
Clip: ham gawanwaa na jaibe ho binaa jhoolni (Mamta)
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ----

SP: (sings) "sakal bana gagana pawana chalata purvaaee ri...."

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------

SP: (sings) "vikal moraa manwaa un bin haaye..."

------------ --------- --------- --------- ---------
Clip: vikal moraa manwaa... ham gawanwaa (Mamta)
------------ --------- --------- --------- ---------

KS: bahut Khoob bahut Khoob!]

SP: yeh gaana bahut pasand aaya tha, abhi to Khair mera galaa baiTha
huya hai. aap ek baat sochenge to aap ko ajeeb lagegaa, maine kabhi
zindagi mein haath mein kaaGaz leke naheen gaaya. aadmi ki yaaddaash
bahut baDi cheez hai, aaj bhi meri zahan mein hazaaron gaane hain.
mere apne hain, Pandit Jasraj, aur mere pitaaji Pandit Pratap Narayan
shaayad hi kisi ko hogi. mujhe unhone gaana sunaaya, usmein kuchh
ajeeb si thi, 'language' thi, doodh, ghrit, (sings) "doodh math ghrit
kaaDh le aa, Daar gaya chhoya, mhaara ri giridhar gopaal doosra na
koi". to main jab maa se sunti thi to main unse kehti thi ki 'aap ko
samajh kya aa raha hai iskaa?' to bolti theen, gyaani theen,
ki 'beTaa, doodh ko mathnaa paDtaa hai, doodh math, phir usmein se
ghee nikaalna paDtaa hai, aur in teen cheezon ke baad chhaanch ko
phenk denaa paDtaa hai'.

KS: ismein guDh baat chhipi huyi hai, gehra darshan chhipa huya hai
jeevan ka, aur jab ham darshan ki baat karte hain, to kaavya ke
maadhyam se, geeton ke maadhyam se, hamaare jo kavi hain, geetkaar
hain, shaayar hain, woh hamaari baat, apni baat, duniya ke saamne

------------ --------- --------- ---------
Song: aap ki nazron ne samjhaa (Anpadh)
------------ --------- --------- ---------

SP: main Madan Mohan-ji ki bahut baDi 'fan' ho gayi, ham dono ek din
Mehboob Studio saath hi mein jaa rahe the, meraa bhi gaana tha, unkaa
bhi tha. to jab main jaa rahi thi to unko aise dekh rahi thi jaise
koi bahut baDi shahseeyat ko dekh rahi hai. maine sochaa ki 'kaash
main inkaa koi gaana gaa loon!' sochte sochte achaanak ek din Khabar
aayi ki woh is duniya mein naheen rahe. sach poochhiye itni Thes
pahunchi mere dil ko aur 'music' ko.

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------
Song: jaana tha hamse door bahaane banaa liye (Adalat)
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------

SP: kitni 'lucky' hain Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, jinko achchhe
achchhe chere mile, jinke woh 'lip movement' kare, aur itne achchhe
geetkaar, Raja Mehendi Ali Khan, Shaqeel Badayuni, kitne achchhe
achchhe 'writers' unko mile. aaj agar Lata Mangeshkar aateen to main
samajhti hoon kabhi woh "dhoom machaa le" naheen gaateen, woh to yehi
gaateen ki "lag jaa gale ke phir yeh haseen raat ho na ho"

first part
SP: Sulaxana Pandit
KS: Kamal Sharma

KS: Sulaxana-ji, Vividh Bharati ke is kaaryakram mein aapka bahut
bahut swaagat hai, namaskaar! Sulaxana-ji, jab baat chal rahi thi aap

jaisa samjhaa, aur jab uske baare mein zikr aata hai to meri aankhon
mein aansoo bhi aate hain ki main us bahen ki bahen hoon baDi jo aaj
mere sath mujhe itna pyaar deti hai ki kisi cheez ki kamee mehsoos
naheen hoti.

KS: matlab bahen bhi hai, saheli bhi hai, kai kai roop hai uske, hun?

SP: 'yes', saare roop, to Vijeyta ke saath hamne sochaa ki Vijeyta ke
saath koi gaana aana chaahiye, aur kudrat ki den dekhiye ek gaana aa
hi gaya.

KS: kaun sa gaana?

SP: "haathon mein meri bhi mehendi lagaayo, jaldi se jaayo mera dulha
leke aayo"

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -
Song: haathon mein meri bhi mehendi lagaayo (Dil Se Mile Dil)
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -

KS: Sulaxana-ji, yeh mera saubhaagya hai ki aaj mujhe aap ke saath
baiThne ka, aap se ru-ba-ru hone ka mauka milaa.

SP: yeh mera bhi saubhaagya hai

KS: jab bhi dekhaa to us chehre pe ek bholaapan, ek maasoomiyat.
yakeen hi naheen hota ki inhone kabhi bachpan mein sharaarat bhi kee
hogi.

SP: bachpan mein, aap yakeen naheen karenge ki main ek bahut
sharmilee laDkee thi. itni sharmilee ki meri koi bahene naheen.

KS: yeh to aap ko 'screen'pe dekh kar hameshaa lagta hai

SP: (laughs) magar main sach keh rahi hoon, mujhe apne aap ko baahar
laana aur 'challenge' ho gaya tha. agar mere 'father' naheen hote to
aaj main 'singer' naheen hoti, 'star' naheen hoti, kuchh naheen hoti,
bhagwaan ne unko apne haathon se banaaya tha bahut Khoobsoorat se,
bahut achchhe swabhaav ke the, bhole the, aur sabse achchhi baat yeh
hai ki woh bahut achchhe guru the. unki pandit Jasraj-ji itni taarif
karte rehte hain aaj bhi, aur kehte hain ki 'aajkal main Prataap
bhaiya mein milne laga hoon'.

KS: ab aap ne jab Pandit Jasraj-ji ka naam liya, to main unkaa bhi
bahut baDaa 'fan' hoon, bahut adbhut gaate hain, jab gaayan divyataa
mein parivartit ho jaata hai.

SP: deewaangee

KS: yeh cheezen uparwaala bahut meherbaani se hi detaa hai

SP: karmon se detaa hai

KS: to aap ke kitne bhaai bahen, us samay kahaan rehta tha aap ka
parivaar?

SP: pehle ham log sab Calcutta mein rehte the, wahaan par All India
Radio se pitaaji ko ek 'letter' aaya ki 'Pandit-ji, aap ko national
Programme mein gawaa rahe hain aur aap Bombay aa jaaiye'. to sab
bachche peechhe paD gaye ki 'ham bhi jaayenge ham bhi jaayenge',
Bambai dekhne ka sab ko shauk tha. to main aur mere baDe bhaai
Bandhir, woh bhi mere guru hain, unhone bhi mujhe bahut mada kee hai
laykaari mein, aur unse maine bahut laykaari seekhee hai, aur main
laykaari mein unko apna guru maanti hoon.

KS: yeh jo baarik kaam hai gaayiki ka

SP: bahut. to ham log yahaan par aaye aur pitaaji ka gaana 'national
recording' ho rahi thi, itne mein baal vibhaag mein ek bachchi naheen
aayi thi. to woh soch mein paD gaye. to unhone dekha ki Pandit-ji gaa
rahe hain to unke bachche bhi zaroor gaate honge. to woh aaye mere
bhaai ke paas. unhone poochhaa 'aap ko gaana aata hai?' maine
kahaa 'mujhe naheen, usko aata hai' aur baDe bhaai ki or haath
uThaaya. to is tarah yeh baat chalti rahi 'naheen yeh gaati hai,
naheen yeh gaata hai, naheen yeh gaati hai, naheen yeh gaata hai'. to
usne dekha ki 'time' nikal jaayega aur 'programme' bhi haath se nikal
jaayega, to unhone hamaara haath pakDaa aur seedhe 'mike' ke saamne
le gaye. aur kahaa 'hamko sunaaiye na ek gaana'.

KS: matlab, 'radio' se aap ka rishtaa bahut puraana hai!

SP: bahut puraana. maine fauji bhaaiyon ke liye bhi kaaryakram kiya
tha.

KS: mujhe yaad hai aap ne fauji bhaaiyon ke liye jo
Jaimala 'programme' hai usmein aap ne shirkar kee thi aur na keval
apne pasand ke gaane sunwaaye the balki unki hausla afzaai bhi kee
theen

SP: jee haan.

KS: 'acting' ka aap ka safar shuru huya tha Sankalp se.

SP: jee haan

KS: Sankalp mein aap ke 'hero' kaun the?

SP: Ramesh Sehgal-ji ke bee hi the. main safed kapDe pahenke, baal
vidhvaa hoti hai na, maine us kirdaar ko Ramesh Sehgal saahab ke
saath kaam karke nibhaaya to us 'acting' ke liye bhi mujhe 'award'
mile. main bahut Khushkismat hoon ki jinhone Sunil Dutt saahab ko
Railway Platform mein 'first introduce' kiya, unhone hi mujhe kiya.
to kitne 'great' honge woh ki unhone 'artistes' chune, 'industry'
ko 'artsites' deeye.

KS: Sankalp 1974 ki baat thi. phir 1975 mein aap ki 3 filmen aayeen.
to inmein aapki sabse pehle kaun film 'release' huyi, Uljhan?

SP: dekhiye, ismein chhoTi si baat main aap se kahoongi

KS: zaroor

SP: main Nadiadwala ki film Bundlebaaz mein kaam kar rahi thi, aur us
waqt mujhe ijaazat naheen thi ki main kisi aur film mein kaam karoon
jab tak ki Bundlebaaz naheen ban jaaye.

KS: woh to 1976 mein 'release' huyi thi

SP: 'yes yes yes'. to kya huya ki Bundlebaaz jab ban rahi thi to main
itni Khush thi, itni Khush thi ki Rajesh Khanna us zamaane mein bahut
baDe 'actor' maane jaate the, ek bahut baDaa 'set' lagaa huya tha, us
pe ek gaana 'picturize' kar rahe the. to ek din Sudesh Kumar aaye aur
kahaa ki 'ek meri film hai Uljhan, aap karengi?'

KS: arey waah. aap ke 'hero' the usmein Sanjeev Kumar. kyunki woh
film maine dekhi hai. aap ko lagaataar ek tanaav jhelnaa paDtaa
hai 'screen' mein aap ko taaki 'husband' par woh baat zaahir na ho
jaaye.

SP: jee haan

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------
Song: apne jeevan ki uljhan ko - Lata version (Uljhan)
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------

SP: saamne Sanjeev Kumar, jaise ki kisi bhi 'role' ko kar sakte the,
ek seemaa par khaDe naheen rehte the, woh apni raah banaate jaate
the.

KS: 'great' the

SP: aur 'I think' ki unke jaisa kalaakaar aaj ki 'date' mein naheen
hai.

------------ --------- --------- --------- ---------
Dialogues between Sanjeev & Sulaxana from Uljhan
------------ --------- --------- --------- ---------

SP: aap se keh doon ki main Bundlebaaz mein kaam to kar rahi thi,
Khush bhi thi, par jab Sudesh Kumar ne yeh 'picture offer' kee mujhe,
woh Uljhan, to maine sochaa ki hazaaron filmen hain, chalo isko bhi
kar dete hain.

KS: Sulaxana-ji, yeh aap ki doosri film thi na?

SP: jee haan

KS: aur doosri film jismein lambaa anubhav bhi naheen tha

SP: jee haan

KS: aur aap ko ek aisa 'drama' jismein bahut zyaada tanaav, lagaataar
aap ko jhelnaa hai aur 'screen' par woh dikhnaa chaahiye, taaki
dekhnewaala apne aap ko uske saath 'associate' kar sake

SP: bilkul sahee hai

KS: aur woh bhi uis tanaav ko, us 'pain' ko jheltaa hai jo aap ko
dekh raha hai. aap ko lagaa ki 'challenge' hai, aur saamne, jaisa ki
aap ne farmaaya ki Sanjeev Kumar jaisa 'actor' ho, us kad-kaaThi ka...

SP: o ho, jab unkaa naam aata hai to 'really' lagta hai ki aise
kalaakaar baar baar naheen paidaa hote.

KS: us samay aap ko thoDi 'nervousness' thi?

SP: bahut, balki peeTh ke peechhe chhup jaati thi, jab koi
aisa 'romantic scene' aata to main sharmaa jaati thi aur woh sakht
rehte the, gambheer. yeh naheen ki mere sharmaane par unhone
kuchh 'comments' keeye, kuchh naheen. sochte honge ki 'Sulaxana jo
hai, 'obviously' abhi abhi aayi hai filmon mein, pyaar mohabbatwaali
baat, aur tum 'daddy' bannewaale ho'. to aisi cheezen jab saamne aati
thi to thoDaa peechhe ho jaati thi, phir himmat karke saamne aati thi
aur 'dialogue' keh deti thi.

KS: jitne bhi shrotaa hain, jo is waqt baatchit ko sun rahe hain ,
Sulaxana-ji ka woh chehra, woh 'scenes' Uljhan ke, apne yaadon ke
galiyaaron se guzar rahe honge. ham Indian Beauty jise kehte hain,
bhaartiya saundarya jise kehte hain, us saundarya mein sharm hai,
nazaakat hai, aur sankoch hai

SP: bilkul sahi hai

KS: to kya bahut zyaada Khayaal karti hain ki yeh bhi kudrat ki den
hai?

SP: (laughs) yeh bhi kudrat ki hi den hai. ham log to 'singer' hain.

KS: Noorjehan aur Suraiyya ne jo paramparaa banaaee thi, aap ko main
usi parampara mein shaamil karta hoon

SP: 'oh my God! thank you'

KS: kyunki gaana aur abhinay, dono ek saath bahut 'rare' hai.

SP: Kishore Kumar bhi aise kalaakaar the jo film banaate bhi
the, 'direct' bhi karte the, aur 'producer' bhi the, aur sangeetkaar
bhi the, aur sarvaguN dhanee the

------------ --------- --------- --------- ------
Song: ge ge ge geli zaraa Timbaktu (Jhumroo)
------------ --------- --------- --------- ------

KS: ham abhi kuchh der pehle 'beauty' ki baat kar rahe the, sahi
maaeene mein jab tak aadmi andar se Khoobsoorat naheen hai, 'inner
beauty' jise ham kehte hain, mere Khayaal se woh zyaada sundar hoti
hai

SP: bahut baDi baat kahee aap ne

KS: bahut lambe samay tak log usey hi yaad rakhte hain

SP: bahut sahee

KS: aur aisaa bholaapan aap ke man mein gehraa asar chhoDtaa hai,
aur 'screen' par bhi zyaada apna bhi lagta hai. aisa...

SP: dekhiye main ek baat kehti hoon

KS: jee

SP: aap jis tarah se saundarya ki baat kar rahe hain, to woh
saundarya bhagwaan banaata hai. main yahi kahoongi ki jab main raaste
par chalti thi, 16/17 saal, ek 'church' hai, wahaan main mombatti
jalaati thi.

KS: oh

SP: main bhajan gaati thi ki 'bhagwaan mera achchha ho', sab jagah
jaati thi, to 'without my knowledge' ke log mujhe peechhe muD muD ke
dekhte the, ki yeh kaun hai yeh kaun hai, itni Khoobsoorat lagti thi.
phir ek baar main Manna-da ke saath koi gaana gaa rahi thi, mujhe
dekhte hi bole 'arey Sulaxana, tu 'heroine' kyun naheen banti?' (KS
laughs). maine kahaa ki 'main gaana gaane aayi hoon'. to bole
ki 'Noorjehan ki tarah gaa, aur Suraiyya bhi gaati theen, unke jaisaa
kaam bhi karo'. to maine kahaa ki 'achchha, jaise milegaa main
karoongi'. to is tarah se Manna-da ne, aur phir Kishore-da ko jab
pataa chalaa ki Sulaxana itni 'talented' hai, 'isko bhi usi
tarah 'effort' aa rahe hain jaise mujhe aate the' to kyun na isko
filmon mein kaam karaaya jaaye. unhi ke saath Hemant-da aaye, unhi ka
jo 'production' hai usmein kaam karo. ab dono mein kahaan haan kahaan
naa mujhe pataa naheen. to 'ultimately' yahi 'plan' huya ki naa woh
kaam denge naa main kaam karoongi aur dono ko apni apni jagah jaise
hain waise hi rahenge.

KS: Uljhan ki baat zaraa beech mein ulajh hi gayi, usko zaraa
suljhaana zaroori hai (SP laughs). Sanjeev Kumar ki baat chal rahi
thi, woh kabhi aap ko 'guide' karte the, bataate the chhoTi chhoTi
baaten, madad karte the?

SP: jahaan tak unkaa samjhaana, jo baat woh samjhaana chaahte the woh
Raj Jalani ko bol dete the ki 'Sulaxana ko bolo ki yeh 'scene' woh is
tarah se kare'. is tarah Sanjeev-ji ka bhi jab main 'scene' dekhti
thi, to mujhe lagtaa tha ki kya aankhen hain unki! kyaa unkaa chehraa
bhagwaan ne 'specially' banaaya hai! koi bhi insaan unko dekhe to jaa
naheen saktaa tha. bahut hi saadar dil aur bahut 'emotional' aur
bahut dooooooor ghanTon dekhnaa, woh 'scene' ko naheen dekhte the
jaise ham log baiThe huye hain, 'scene' de diyaa, 'scene' paDh liyaa,
to 'balcony' mein jaakar ghanTon khaDe rehte the jab tak 'light'
lagti thi.

KS: aur andar hi andar us par kaam kar rahe hote the

SP: kaam kar rahe hote. Naya Din Nayi Raat mein unhone nau 'role'
keeye the.

KS: to Sulaxana-ji, isiliye kuchh log jis naam se woh jaane jaate
hain 'actor' ke roop mein, woh wohi nazar aate hain 'screen' par bhi.
lekin kuchh log woh hote hain jo film ka 'character' hota hai woh
nazar aate hain. unkaa asli naam peechhe chhooT jaata hai

SP: bilkul sahee

KS: aur Sanjeev Kumar aise hi 'actor' the jo us 'character' mein
samaa jaate the, jo us 'character' ko amar banaa dete the.

SP: bilkul

KS: chaahe Sholay ke Thaakur saahab ki baat karoon, chaahe Aandhi ki
baat karoon

SP: aa haa

KS: Mausam ki baat karoon

SP: kya baat hai

KS: Koshish ki baat kare ham

SP: o ho ho

KS: bahut hi 'challenging role'

SP: kamaal kar rahe hain aap, itne achchhe filmon ke naam aap ko yaad
hai, main soch ke aa rahi thi ki in filmon ke naam main loongi
lekin 'I must give you credit' ki 'you know Sanjeev-ji so nearly',
main bahut 'contended' mehsoos kar rahi hoon.

KS: achchhe log sab ke dilon par raaj karte hain

SP: bilkul sahee, bilkul sahee kahaa hai

second part

SP: Sulaxana Pandit
KS: Kamal Sharma

KS: Sulaxana-ji, Vividh Bharati ke is kaaryakram mein aap ka bahut
bahut swaagat hai, namaskaar.

SP: namashkaar, shukriyaa

KS: Sulaxana-ji, jab aap ki yeh film bankar 'release' huyi, Uljhan ki
baat kar raha hoon main, to apno ka, doston ka, saheliyon ka
kya 'reaction' tha?

SP: dekhiye, ham jab woh film 'premiere' mein hi dekhe the, to jitne
dekhnewaale the woh sab 'spell bound' ho gaye. yaani unko yeh samajh
hi naheen aaya ki yeh nayi 'heroine' hokar Ashok Kumar, Sanjeev
Kumar, Farida Jalaal, Aruna Irani ke rehte huye, aur yeh laDki lekar
chali gayi 'cake'! sab mujhi ko yaad karte. to ek maasoomiyat usmein
yeh thi ki meri nanad aati hai Farida Jalaal mere paas aur kehti hai
ki brij aa gaya hai aur agar main uske paas naheen gayi to woh mere
saare pyaar bhare Khat mere pati ko de degaa aur main to kisi ko munh
dikhaane ke laayak naheen rahoongi. is tarah 'scene' pe 'scene', ham
jab 'dubbing' karte the tab 'oh Sulaxana, what are you doing,
tremendous!' sab mujhe, matlab, pyaar karte the ki yeh nayi laDki
hokar bhi itna achchha kar rahi hai.

------------ --------- --------- --------- ----
Song: subah aur shaam kaam hi kaam (Uljhan)
------------ --------- --------- --------- ----

SP: dekhiye Khat laana, Brij ko maarnaa, phir 'husband' se chhupaana
ki main Khooni hoon, aur uske baad mein ek chhoTi si guDiyaa
jaisi 'heroine' baiThke seh rahi hai yeh sab, main Khud ro deti hoon
kabhi kabhi us film ke baare mein sochke, baDi pyaari 'script' thi,
aur bahut 'tight' kaam tha, ek ek 'scene' main kabhi dekhti hoon to
main aankh band kar leti hoon, yeh 'scene' aayegaa, yeh 'scene'
aayega, aap yakeen naheen karenge Ashok Kumar-ji ne jo kaam kiya hai
us film mein, 'I am really', unki aatma ko shaanti de bhagwaan, woh
itne baDe kalaakaar hokar ek 'scene' diya unhone, to Sanjeev aaye
neeche, yeh aaye, Ashok-ji, to bole ki 'kyun bahu ko ghar se nikaala
gaya, kyun usko hathkaDi dilaayi, kiske bolne par 'police' aayi?', to
Farida Jalaal bolti hai ki 'naheen, jeejaaji main bolti hoon, main
Khooni hoon, main usey pyaar bhare Khat likhti thi, kamzori meri hai,
usey jo dhutkaar rahe hain, meri aatma gawaara naheen karti'. main
bolti hoon 'jab tak main hoon mujhe karne de, main agar kamzor paDee
tab koi aur baat hai'.

KS: jee

SP: magar woh 'scene' pe 'scene', 'scene' pe 'scene', 'scene'
pe 'scene', pyaare pyaare 'dialogues', aur ek sahee bahu, ek sahee
nanad ka jo kaam, woh mujhe zindagi bhar yaad rahegaa.

KS: ek baDaa kalaakaar wohi hotaa hai jo us chunauti ko nibhaa le
jaata hai aur apne abhinay se apni kalaa se ek charitra ko itna
vaastavik, itnaa vishvasniya banaa deta hai ki log uske saath
apne 'emotions share' karne lag jaate hain, usmein apne aap ko dekhte
hain. kahaani jab logon ke dilon par asar karti hai, baat tabhi banti
hai. aap ki ek film 1975 mein aayi thi Salakhen, jismein aap ne kaam
kiya tha Shashi Kapoor ke saath mein. usmein Shammi Kapoor bhi the
aur Mahmood bhi the usmein shaayad, hai na!

SP: jee jee, bilkul sahee

KS: aur sangeet Ravindra Jain saahab ka

SP: jee

KS: to Shashi Kapoor ke saath bhi aap ne kaam kiya, Shammi Kapoor ke
saath bhi, aur Rishi Kapoor ke saath bhi.

SP: jee. aap ko ek bataa doon, Kapoor 'family' mein aise kaun hain
jinke saath maine kaam naheen kiya? (KS laughs) sabse baDi baat yeh
hai ki Raj Kapoor saahab ne bhi mujhse kahaa 'tum filmon mein kaam
karo, gaana to milte hi jaayegaa'. aur bhari 'audience' mein
Shanmughanan Hall mein unhone 3000 aadmiyon ke saamne kahaa
ki 'Sulaxana Pandit will be my heroine in RK'. sunkar main gumsum ho
gayi. ek baar Shashi Kapoor kisi 'programme' mein aaye the aur unka
takiya kalaam huya karta tha 'jee mujhe Shashi Kapoor kehte hain'. to
uske baad sab ko biThaaya gaya, ham sab baiThe the 'programme' dekhne
ke liye, to Shashi-ji se kahaa gaya ki 'aap kuchh kahen'. Shashi-ji
ne kahaa ki 'main bahut Khush hoon ki aap log baiThe hain yahaan, aur
mujhe aap 'award' de rahe hain, is baat se main bahut Khush hoon, to
logon ne bolaa 'dialogues'. to unhone bolaa 'dekhiye, yahaan pe na
koi 'camera' hai aur na koi 'heroine' hai'. to 3000 'public' ne ek
saath kahaa 'Sulaxana Pandit!'. main Khud hairaan ho gayi. aur unhone
peechhe muDkar dekhaa ki aisa kaun hai Sulaxana Pandit jinka naam
kahaa jaa raha hai. to unhone kahaa ki 'jee maine kabhi inke saath
kaam to naheen kiya lekin kaam karna paDe to main inke saath zaroor
kaam karoongaa'. bhagwaan ki dayaa dekhiye saat filmon mein maine
unke saath kaam kiya. to aise bahut si cheezen insaan ke saath hoti
hain jo woh kabhi bhool naheen saktaa.

KS: waise Shashi Kapoor saahab ki baat karen to woh bhi apne parivaar
mein alag tarah ke vyakti hain jinhone apni tarah se, apne parivaar
mein, Khaaskar naaTakon mein jo yogdaan diya hai, paramparaa ko aage
baDhaaya, aur usko bahut sahejkar sambhaalkar rakhaa.

SP: sab hain aise hi. Raj Kapoor ke jo beTe hain Rishi Kapoor, mujhe
unke saath itna achchha lagaa, bilkul 'down to earth', zaraa ghamanD
naheen, 'on the contrary helping'. ek baar ham jaa rahe the, hamne
ek 'banner' dekhaa Mamta. usmein jitne bhi 'staff' the, 'helper'
aur 'hair dresser', sab ko maine bolke rakhaa 'kal 'ticket' laake
rakhna, 9 baje 'shooting' khatam hogi, phir ham log yeh film dekhne
aayenge'. uskaa ek gaana mujhe bahut pasand aaya tha, uskaa ek
ek 'line' main aap ko sunaati hoon

KS: zaroor zaroor

SP: (sings) "ham gawanwaa na jaibe ho binaa jhoolni..."

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ----
Clip: ham gawanwaa na jaibe ho binaa jhoolni (Mamta)
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ----

SP: (sings) "sakal bana gagana pawana chalata purvaaee ri...."

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------
Clip: sakal bana gagana pawana... ham gawanwaa (Mamta)
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------

SP: (sings) "vikal moraa manwaa un bin haaye..."

------------ --------- --------- --------- ---------
Clip: vikal moraa manwaa... ham gawanwaa (Mamta)
------------ --------- --------- --------- ---------

KS: bahut Khoob bahut Khoob!]

SP: yeh gaana bahut pasand aaya tha, abhi to Khair mera galaa baiTha
huya hai. aap ek baat sochenge to aap ko ajeeb lagegaa, maine kabhi
zindagi mein haath mein kaaGaz leke naheen gaaya. aadmi ki yaaddaash
bahut baDi cheez hai, aaj bhi meri zahan mein hazaaron gaane hain.
mere apne hain, Pandit Jasraj, aur mere pitaaji Pandit Pratap Narayan
shaayad hi kisi ko hogi. mujhe unhone gaana sunaaya, usmein kuchh
ajeeb si thi, 'language' thi, doodh, ghrit, (sings) "doodh math ghrit
kaaDh le aa, Daar gaya chhoya, mhaara ri giridhar gopaal doosra na
koi". to main jab maa se sunti thi to main unse kehti thi ki 'aap ko
samajh kya aa raha hai iskaa?' to bolti theen, gyaani theen,
ki 'beTaa, doodh ko mathnaa paDtaa hai, doodh math, phir usmein se
ghee nikaalna paDtaa hai, aur in teen cheezon ke baad chhaanch ko
phenk denaa paDtaa hai'.

KS: ismein guDh baat chhipi huyi hai, gehra darshan chhipa huya hai
jeevan ka, aur jab ham darshan ki baat karte hain, to kaavya ke
maadhyam se, geeton ke maadhyam se, hamaare jo kavi hain, geetkaar
hain, shaayar hain, woh hamaari baat, apni baat, duniya ke saamne

------------ --------- --------- ---------
Song: aap ki nazron ne samjhaa (Anpadh)
------------ --------- --------- ---------

SP: main Madan Mohan-ji ki bahut baDi 'fan' ho gayi, ham dono ek din
Mehboob Studio saath hi mein jaa rahe the, meraa bhi gaana tha, unkaa
bhi tha. to jab main jaa rahi thi to unko aise dekh rahi thi jaise
koi bahut baDi shahseeyat ko dekh rahi hai. maine sochaa ki 'kaash
main inkaa koi gaana gaa loon!' sochte sochte achaanak ek din Khabar
aayi ki woh is duniya mein naheen rahe. sach poochhiye itni Thes
pahunchi mere dil ko aur 'music' ko.

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------
Song: jaana tha hamse door bahaane banaa liye (Adalat)
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------

SP: kitni 'lucky' hain Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, jinko achchhe
achchhe chere mile, jinke woh 'lip movement' kare, aur itne achchhe
geetkaar, Raja Mehendi Ali Khan, Shaqeel Badayuni, kitne achchhe
achchhe 'writers' unko mile. aaj agar Lata Mangeshkar aateen to main
samajhti hoon kabhi woh "dhoom machaa le" naheen gaateen, woh to yehi
gaateen ki "lag jaa gale ke phir yeh haseen raat ho na ho"

KS: achchha, un dino Rajesh Khanna, jo pehle 'suprestar' maane jaate
hain

SP: bilkul

KS: aap ne unke saath bhi kaam kiya hai, Bandalbaaz mein, Dharam
Kanta mein, aur....

SP: aap 'believe' naheen karenge, maine Uttam Kumar-ji ke saath bhi
kaam kiya hai

KS: ooooooooh!

SP: ham Kalkatta mein rehte the aur Kalkatta mein 'rickshaw' leke
apne 'school' jaate the, Bharati Vidya Bhawan, to ham ek 'poster'
dekhe jaate the, main aur mera bhaai, to usmein bahut pyaar bhare
andaaz mein 'photographs' liye gaye the Uttar Kumar ke saath,
Suchitra Sen ke saath. to ham kehte the ki 'kitna achchha lagta hai
na', bachche log baat jaise karte hain. ab uske baad mere paas film
aayi Bandi. to Bandi mein yeh the aur F C Mehra saahab ne
mujhe 'sign' kar liya tha.

------------ --------- --------- --------- ------
Song: jise yaar ka sachcha pyaar mile (Bandi)
------------ --------- --------- --------- ------

SP: to ab jab maine unko pehli baar dekhaa to dil ki haalat mat
poochhiye, dhak dhak dhak dhak, aise chal raha tha (KS laughs). maine
bolaa 'himmat to karna paDegaa'.

KS: Uttam Kumar ki baat kee, maine samajhta hoon abhinay mein,
shaKhsiyat mein, vyavhaar mein, uttam hi the

SP: uttam the. jab main Uttam Kumar ke paas gayi, to 'already' Uttam-
da ko bataa diya gaya tha ki 'nayi laDkee hai, woh Hindi mein
to 'top' hai lekin aap ke saath jo kaam kar rahi hai, woh Dar rahi
hai ki aap ke saath mein kaise kaam hogaa'. 'anyway' unhone
phir 'mood' banaaya, khudito paashaan, oraa thaake odhaare, aisi
filmon mein kaam karne waale. to unhone bolaa 'shulokkhona, bosho
bosho, tumi baanglaa jaano?' maine bolaa 'naa, aami jaani naa'. 'naa
naa tumi khoob bhaalo kothaa bolo, aami chaai tumi gaan gaao'. maine
kahaa 'kaun saa gaana?' 'jaa tomaar bhaalo laage'. to Daree huyi si
main, yeh gaana gaayi unke saamne, (sings) "naa jeyo naa, rojoni
ekhono baaki....".

KS: iskaa Hindi' version' bhi us tarah se aaya

SP: (sings) "o sajnaa barkhaa bahaar aayi, ras ki phuhaar laayi..."

------------ --------- --------- --------- ----
Song: o sajnaa barkhaa bahaar aayi (Parakh)
------------ --------- --------- --------- ----

KS: Salil Chaudhary saahab ke saath kabhi koi 'interraction' huya aap
ka?

SP: main bahut chhoTi thi, samajh leejiye maine 'mike' tabhi 'face'
hi naheen kiya tha. to main aur 'daddy' kisi kaam ke liye 'studio'
gaye huye the. tab maine Salil-da ko dekhaa, Antara unki beTi ko
dekhaa, unki patni ko dekhaa, saara parivaar jaise sangeet mein khoya
huya hai. Salil-da ki kya baat karoon, Madhumati yaad keejiye, ek se
ek gaane!

------------ --------- --------- --------- ------
Song: ghaDi ghaDi mora dil dhaDke (Madhumati)
------------ --------- --------- --------- ------

SP: kabhi kabhi lagtaa hai ki bahut seedhaa gaana hai, lekin jab aap
gaane jaate hain to pataa chalta hai ki shaastriya sangeet ka poora
jhunD hai.

KS: yahaan par kyun na ham is mahaan sangeetkaar ko shraddhaanjali
den, aap ki pasand ke gaane se!

SP: Salil-da ke to bahut gaane hain, (sings) "jaa re jaa re uD jaa re
panchhi, bahaaron ke des jaa re, yahaan kya hai mere pyaare...."

------------ --------- --------- --------- -----
Song: jaa re jaa re uD jaa re panchhi (Maya)
------------ --------- --------- --------- -----

SP: dekhiye main aap ko bataati hoon ki bahut bachpan mein kisi gaane
ke liye main Rajashree Productions gayi thi, woh tha Ek Baar Kaho. to
sab ne bolaa ki 'Sulaxana, yeh gaana kaT raha tha, yeh gaana itnaa
achchha lagaa ham logon ko ki hamne kahaa ki yeh gaana
ham 'picturize' karenge'. to woh gaana itna pyaara hai, mujhe bahut
achchha lagtaa hai.

KS: sangeet kiska hai?

SP: sangeet ismein hai Bappi Lahiri ka, bahut ham dono ne kaam kiya
hai, achchha kaam kiya, bahut achchha kaam kiya hai.

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------
Song: ek baar kaho mujhe pyaar karte ho (Ek Baar Kaho)
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- ------

KS: aap ne bhi tarah tarah ke 'emotions' waale gaane gaaye hain. aur
mujhe bahut saare gaane yaad bhi aate hain, ham gungunaate bhi hain.
yahaan par ham Vividh Bharati mein ham sunwaate bhi hain, hamaare
paas farmaaishen bhi aati hain, aap ke chaahnewaalon ki kamee naheen
hai jo aap ke gaano ki kadr karte hain. aur aap ka to ishq puraana
hai sangeet ke saath, hai na (SP laughs). to kabhi aap ne aisa gaana
bhi gaaya jo baad mein kisi doosre kalaakaar ke paas chalaa gaya?

SP: aisi to bahut si baaten aayi zindagi mein, lekin ham chalte rahe.
iskaa ek sher mujhe yaad aa raha hai - "manzil mile mile na sahi mera
kaarwaan to hai". main us 'path' pe jaa to rahi hoon, manzil mile yaa
na mile. aaj dekhiye 50 filmon mein 'as heroine, leading lady' kaam
kiya hai, aur na jaane maine kitne gaane gaaye hain bachpan mein,
jawaani mein, Gujarati, Marathi, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, aur
Bengali, aur Oriya, sab milaakar mere gaane 100 ke upar hote.

KS: yeh Hindi aur Marathi to samajh mein aate hain, lekin yeh jo
doosri zabaano mein aap ko gaane deeye jaate hain, to usko kya 'by
heart', ap usko yaad kar leti theen?

SP: haan, gaana to yaad karna paDtaa hai na! aap kahiye to aap ko
kuchh...

KS: haan bilkul!

SP: (sings Gujarati song). yeh gaana Lata-ji ne bhi gaaya, Lata-ji ne
gaaya jab 'heroine' jawaan ho jaati hai, maine gaaya jab 'heroine'
bachchi rehti hai. to yeh Gujarati gaana gaaya.

KS: Oriya?

SP: Oriya ka ek do 'line' yaad hai mujhe, (sings) "koN koruchhi
baansuri bajaayuchhi. .." (KS laughs)

KS: achchha, mujhe pataa chalaa ki ek film aayi thi Tere Mere Sapne,
uske liye bhi aap ne gaaya tha.

SP: bahut achchha poochha aap ne, bhool jaate to main phir aati aap
ke paas. (KS laughs). 'actually' kya huya ki Polydor aur HMV, dono
ki 'demand' thi ki Tere Mere Sapne ke jitne bhi gaane hain, sab Lata-
ji gaayen, achchha hai. sab ne sunaa is baat ko aur 'appreciate'
kiya. to mujhe Kishore-da ne bolaa 'dekh do jagah aisi hai, HMV, main
Polydor mein naheen hoon, main HMV mein hoon, chalo gaana gaate
hain'. poori gaaDi mein woh gaana seekhaate seekhaate le gaye. aur
mujhe lagaa, Theek hai, kaun sa gaana, bole (sings) "he maine kasam
lee, he tune kasam lee, naheen honge judaa ham, he maine kasam lee..."

------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -
Song: he maine kasam lee - Kishore/Sulaxana (Tere Mere Sapne)
------------ --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- -

SP: ek to yeh, doosra yeh tha, (sings) "jeevan ki bagiyaa mahekegi,
lahekegi, chahkegee... . sings one full stanza"

KS: Sulaxana-ji, do aur baDe kalaakaar

SP: bataaiye

KS: ek to Amitabh Bachchan saahab hain...

SP: kya baat hai, kya baat hai!

KS: jo 'superstar' se baad mein 'megastar' ho gaye, aur doosre Vinod
Khanna saahab, film aayi thi Hera Pheri.

SP: jee haan

KS: aap ne unke saath mein kaam kiya tha

SP: jee

KS: main us film ke anubhav jaanna chaahta hoon aap se, kaisa lagaa,
kaisi 'chemistry' thi, iske baare mein.

SP: 'actually' Amit-ji ki main Deewar film dekh kar bahut baDi 'fan'
ho gayi, aur koshish karti rahi, karti rahi ki unke saath koi kaam
aaye. to Hera Pheri mein jab 'end' hota hai, to woh Saira-ji
ke 'opposite' mein hain, to Saira-ji ke paas jaane se pehle mere paas
aa jaate hain, aur mere kandhe mein sar rakh dete hain. aur kehte
hain 'sorry sorry'. phir Vinod-ji aate hain aur ham log teeno apne
jo 'mission' pe gaye the woh kaamyaab hota hai, ham log jaa rahe hain
aur waheen 'pause' kar diya haio. to yeh mujhe bahut pasand aata hai,
aur woh jo kaam karte hain to kaam karne se pehle aadmi sochta hai
ki 'is he in right mood?', woh usi mein ghus jaate hain.

KS: aur usse baahar aana, usmein bhi waqt lagtaa hai. main samajhta
hoon ki aap usmein itna Doob jaate hain ki 'emotionally disturbed'
bhi ho jaate hain

SP: bilkul, ham sahi anjaam dena chaahte hain, naheen to hamaare
seene mein aisa lagta hai ki kisi ne teer maar diya. to ham apne mein
bahut bahut satark rehte hain, aisa naheen ki bad idhar udhar kiya
aur ho gaya kaam, naheen! 'artiste' jo aap ke saath mehnat karke gaya
hai uski mehnat ko aap Thukraaiye mat kyunki woh, bachpan se woh
cheez hamaare saath jaa rahi hai, hamein DaanTaa bhi gaya hai, hamein
futkaara bhi gaya hai, saath gaanza bhi chal raha hai, us cheez ko
agar kisi ne kam kar diya to yahaan to parmaatma rehta hai dil mein,
to woh agar TooT jaaye to bahut takleef hoti hai. yeh main zaroor
kehna chaahti hoon ki 'artiste'-on ki qadar zaroor honi chaahiye,
unke liye pyaar hona chaahiye

KS: Sulaxana-ji, 'profession' ek alag cheez hai, lekin 'profession'
mein kabhi kaam karte karte ham logon ke itne kareeb aa jaate hain ki
woh hamaare parivaar ke sadasya ban jaate hain.

SP: Rajkamal-ji hamaare ghar ke ek aise sadasya the jo har baat ko
itni sulabhtaa se suljhaa dete
