Hi All
I have read some where that Guru Dutt had signed R D Burman to compose the music of his movie "Raaz" and he recorded 2 songs in the voice of Geeta ji.
Then this movie was scrapped (like some other movies like Gauri starring Geeta ji as the leading lady)
Does any one have these 2 songs or some information on these 2 songs ?

I have this songs in 78rpm version obviously this song relesed some one else also sings this song with Geeta gee this is a double song other information will be given to you after your reply.

In 1959, in parallel to the making of "Kaagaz ke Phool", Guru Dutt gave his assistant,
Niranjan, a film to direct. The name of the movie was ˜Raaz". It was based on
"The Woman in White" by Wilkie Collins, and featured Sunil Dutt in the role of a
military doctor. The casting of the film had Waheeda Rehman in a double role
of two sisters, Kum Kum as the third sister and S. Nazir as their villainous uncle.
The publicity booklet of "Kaagaz ke Phool" carried an advertisement
for "Raaz" and "Chaudvin ka Chand" under the heading,
"Two more box-office smashers in the Guru Dutt tradition fast progressing".
The production of "Raaz" was stopped, and was only revived some months
later with Guru Dutt replacing Sunil Dutt in the central role.
A few scenes of the film were photographed in the beautiful snowy hills of Simla,
and two songs were recorded by R.D. Burman. It is said that five or
six reels of the film (now untraceable) were shot and edited when Guru Dutt,
who was dissatisfied with the film, abandoned it. The writer Dhruv Chatterjee
sold the story to Raj Khosla who later reworked it
into the highly successful film, "Who Kaun Thi" (1964).
Actor Mehmood had requested Guru Dutt to let R.D. Burman use one of the
songs recorded for ˜Raaz" in "Chhote Nawab(1961), which was
R.D. Burman's first film as music director. The song was
"Ghar aaja ke ghir aaye badra saanwariya".
What happened to the second song or rather I should say to the tune.....
It was based on the chaplin's "lime light" or may we call that RDB was
inspired by that tune. He again used that tune in Bombay to Goa.
The song was "Tum meri zindagi main" but the song was not
picturised though the records were released. He again used
the same tune in Mukti. The song was "Main jo chala pee ke".

This is like a treasure for all Geeta ji fans. Please be kind to share these never heard before songs. I have seen a photograph of Geeta ji and R D Burman with Hemant Kumar. It seems that R D is listening to a rehearsal of a duet of Geeta ji and Hemantda.

Thank you Maheshji for the writeup about the film. Limelight is such a classic, beautiful film I've watched so many times. I never would have made the connection to the Mukti and Bombay to Goa songs, thanks for the info. I guess he (RDB) must have loved that movie too.
