Great thread Chintu bhai. SJ forum deserved a thread on lata_ SJ association.

Very few know that apart from LP lata had maximum songs with Shankar jaikishan. and the ratio per movie is also among highest.

Had there been no rift between Lata- Shankar the no of songs could have been lot more. They didnt worked together for some 7-8 years. Dozens of songs by Shankar went to Asha, Suman and other female singers like sharda etc.

Lata and SJ 's career started nearly at the same time in 1949. ( she had earlier hits also ). and in the form
of Barsaat they tasted their first big success.......individually and together.

That was just the start of the illustrious association between SJ and lata. For SJ rafi and lata were their fav singers.

Their assocation produced songs of every genre and varieyt. ( I inculde Quantity also as criteria). Not all MDs gave lata the range of songs and with such successrate. !

I hope chintu bhai you wont mind if others upload songs in this theread??

This one is a Shankar - Lata song. Shankar and lata worked together in Sanyasi after a gap of 7-8 years.
And result had to be great. Sanyasi songs were popular and appreciated by music lovers.

Agree with Sonu, I like to savour the Lata-SJ combos, with some write-up on songs. But SKG you have uploaded some lovely Lata songs... thank you. smile.gif

Here is one song that has very little orchestration(not typical of SJ songs...!) but I just love the strings here... and Lata's sweet voice... A tandem song, Talat tries a fast paced song here and though I love listening to his songs, Lata is much better singing this lovely track. Reminds me of "Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Ye"...

What lovely lyrics too... chand ke tale jalenge hum...love listening to this song in my car for some reason smile.gif

Hello all,

I do agree that the songs should have been uploaded one-by-one slowly. But I think you all will agree with me that at times we just can't wait...

It has been my pleasure to upload some of the best SJ-LM combos, most of which are fairly common but I think a couple of songs like the one from Naya Ghar or Aurat might not be with everyone here.

Thinking of starting a similar thread for SJ combos with other singers...

SKG bhai people hardly know abt Lata- SJ as a combo, but fact is its certainly among the TOP ! thts why I requested all of you to go slow on this. !

When I say best combination or best of lata , I have taken a wider criteria , not just nos or a certain period or class of songs ! I feel " only MM " can claim to beat SJ in this regard !

Lata has lot of classical music based sngs with SJ.......probabily among her best !

Yes true. Lot of MM songs are Ghazals even with other singers. but if you consider the popular Lata-MM songs ( including ghazals) MM has very good success rate. This is not the case with all MDs. others might have given her all types of songs but they didnt were popular.

Iam taking into Pre 70s scene....... post 70s was totally differnet. Lot of cabret, sensual etc songs by all female singers. So pre 70 MDs cant be blamed for not making such songs. when things hardly allowed them to do so !

I will welcome if members can provide names of MDs who gave Lata best songs ???

PS : right now listening to Lata song with antara :
Jara ek nazar iss taraf ab to dekho

Can any one identify this song??

Madan Mohan made impact on mass after 60s.

SJ's magic started from Barsaat and show continued
till Elaan. (wrf to Lata solos)

Madan Mohan ke duets popular nahin hain.

SKG
Hello folks,

I have always been of the opinion that Lata-MM was never the only best combonation. The myth got propogated as a fact because Lata was personally close to MM, considered him as her elder brother, never fought with him and always spoke of him and his songs in interviews.

Other music directors have also given a lot of equally good, if not better, songs. Lata had, at some point in her career, quarrelled with almost all the top music directors of 50's & 60's and had boycotted them like S. D. Burman, Shankar, C. Ramchandra to name a few. Although she patched up with them after some time that was only on the professional front. That's why we never hear Lata ever mentioning Shankar-Jaikishan, S. D. Burman or C. Ramchandra or even Roshan, Naushad, Gulam Mohammed and their songs.

My personal preference is for Lata-SJ, but I also acknowledge that S. D. Burman & Naushad have also given equally great songs. At the same time I do not mean to say that Lata-MM was in any way lesser than her combo with any of the music directors I have mentioned above.

SKG bhai thanks for the reply. Even in my list only SDB, MM, CR are the other MDs who gave good songs to Lata.

Every one knows Naushad saab's contribution. but I feel his work with Lata lacked verstality and popularity(quantity).

Can we list out some good songs of Lata with SDB. can any SDB fan do it for us.??

Lets list out good songs of SDB with Lata from 50s. !

Yes chintu bhai . Shankar was the sole composer of this movie. Jeetendra and neetu were main cast of the movie.

This movie is among few movies of Shankar ji which didnt had " unusual recording". thts why all songs look more pleasing here.

to me all songs were good. ( lyrics were bit down.). lata title song is v good. check the Antara music Tune its v meliodious.
