Hi All
Inspired by mahesh bhai's (maheshks) radio programme today, I had this feeling that may be Geeta ji's songs before marriage (till 1953 are more melodious than her post marriage songs (1954 onwards).
So here is a poll question for you, in your opinion, whose songs are more melodiosu, Geeta Roy or Geeta Dutt ? Her late 40s and early 50s songs or the late 50s songs ?
Brief filmography of Geeta Roy : Do Bhai, Jogan, Darogaji, Kamal, Pyar, Shaheed, Dilruba, Bahu Beti, Baazi, Baaz
Brief filmography of Geeta Dutt: Aarpar, Kagaz ke phool, Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam, CID, Anubhav, Mujrim, 12 O'clock,
Please vote and give your comments and feedback.
Any corrections/additions of film names are most welcome
Regards
Parag

Parag i think the songs of Geeta ji both as Roy and Dutt were melodious because the iternal beauty of her songs does not go away with mere change of name time or relationships. Geetaji gave her very best in all her songs and to me she is just geetaji whose voice, i just simply love.

I Love both Geeta Dutt n Roy. Change of last name didn't have any effect on Geeta Dutt voice quality.....

Parag,
i have voted for second option.
maybe i have heard more songs in that group.
but i find them more melodious than first group.
i think before marriage or after marriage is just like any option for ex. songs in early 50's and songs in late 50's. you just need to phrase it differently so people would see the right meaning.
i don't think marriage had any effect on her singing capabilities. if it had, it only resulted in more melodious songs.

I agree with Ummer. The voice remains same. She got more romantic, happy as well as sad songs during the post marriage period. This may varied with different composers. So I think such a poll is not an important one.

i think she matured...a natural process...our music too evolved...roy or dutt wuddav little to do in affecting her singing...only age and maturity can do that..a natural continuous process........shaadi to praay sabki der savaer ho hii jaati hai

Hi All, thanks for your comments and responses. I think I did not articulate my point correctly. What I feel is this :
Geeta ji's voice in the songs before 1954 is younger and fresher (which is obvious). I think that her songs from say Baazi or Dilruba are melodious than post 1954 songs.
Its OK if most of you disagree with me. I had no whatsoever intentions of saying anything bad against my beloved singer, my motherly figure Geeta ji.
Thanks and best Regards
Parag

According to me, Geeta ji's voice was much sweeter and 'sharper' in her pre-marriage days.

Take the song(s) from Baazi -'Aaj Ki Raat Piya' or even the ones from Jogan, it is pretty obvious.
Call it maturity, but her voice post-marriage lost some of its natural sharpness and turned a little 'blunt' - take the song 'Waqt Ne Kiya'.

No points for guessing which way i voted. It's when she carried her maiden name - Roy.
And yes, Parag, Geeta ji was never as melodious as when she sang 'Mera Sundar Sapna Beet Gaya' harking back to the time when she hadn't become a Dutt.
I am biased in favour of Ms Geeta Roy.

Hi Noorie
Thanks for echoing my sentiments ! I too love Ms Geeta ji Roy...especially after joining HF, I came to know about so many of her late 40's and early 50's songs !

You do very infrequent visits here (atleast not many posts, if I can dare to say) but the posts are really worthwhile reading and nice
Thanks again
Cheers
Parag
