Starting this thread dedicated to her duets with her co-singers..
parag_sankla
The concept behind this thread is like a Phulon ka gajara (Garland of flowers). The first flower will be woven with a duet of Geeta ji with Rafi saab, with whom she has sung maximum number of duets.

17) Surendra : Bulbul ko mila phool (Kamal)

Surendra was promoted as a singing star in the era of late Kundan la Saighal sab. He did meet with some success in the late forties, but with strong emergence of playback singers like Rafi saab, it was difficult to hold the fort.

Geetaji has sung a few duets with Surendra ji in the 1950 movie Kamal and in a few more movies.

Film - Kamal
Year - 1950
Lyricist(s) - Sahir
Musician(s) - S D Burman

18) Ashok kumar : Sapera been bajayo re (Padmini)
In late forties, the playback singing was gaining strong holds, still some of the heroes did sing a few songs. This is probably (?) the only duet Geeta ji has sung with dadamoni Ashok Kumar ji.

The music was composed by the legendary MD Ghulam Haider sab. In my opinion, Geeta ji got to work with most of the legendary composers in late forties and early fifties.

Film - Padmini
Year - 1948
Lyricist(s) - Wali Saheb

Duration - 2.46 mins

Geeta ji did work with Khayyam saab in his early days. Khayyam sab used to use the name "Sharmaji" as composer in some of the movies. She has even sung a few duets with him apart from singing under his baton.

Duration - 1.57 mins
Bitrate - 96kbps
Format - mp3

This is a tandem version of the famous duet of Suraiya ji with Shyam. Probably this song was picturized on another heroine in the movie.

This is also one of the rare songs Geeta ji sang for Naushad saab. The next assignment of hers with the musical maestro came only in sixties for "Son of India" in the form of the song "Mujhe huzoor tumse pyar hain".

I would be grateful if some one can share a pic of this singer Shyam Kumar. (Incidentally, the hero of the movie was also Shyam)

* This is a very short song. I do have the slightly longer version (2.04 min), but its at a very low bit-rate (16 KBPS).

Now, even if the audio quality of this song 16 KBPS song is very good, still I can not upload it, due to new regulations on bit-rates of the songs. Its not that I am complaining, this is just a practical problem.

Hi
Thanks for this song. This composition is surely one of those everlasting melodies that will keep Geetaji's memory alive in our minds. Kidar Sharma's films often have some of the top tunes of their times. Examples : Mukesh's song 'Teri duniya mein dil lgta naheen' also from 'Bawre Nain' and Mubarak Begum's 'Kabhi tanhayion mein hamari yaad aayegi' from 'Hamari Yaad Aayegi' are two of many. Anytime you have other specials on Geeta ji or other playback singers please do let me know. With busy work schedule I may check this site about once a week or less but it is a pleasure to come back and listen to these melodies.Harjinder
