One additional note about the song "Mai soya akhiyaaN meech" from
"Phagun". At one point in the film version of this song, there is a very
harsh/jarring piece of music (played I think on a sarangi ???).
THat was the Indian censor board stepping in. The lines are actually
that of the woman (Asha/Madhubala) singing -
"Mai soyi akhiyaaN meeche teri baahoN ke neeche"
That was considered too risque and the censor board asked that the
portion be changed/removed. Not sure who made the choice (OPN
or the film producer) to add that grating music to mask the lyrics.
But it almost seems like they were so mad at the censor board that
they did it in the most irritating way possible. Apparently, older LP
records of the film had this same music in there. It is only recently
that the original version has been released (though I am not sure of
that).
Thanks for "special" piece of information. This instance looks similar to that of "Na yeh chand hoga"
where the picturization was changed to "tone down" the wordings "Tumhe har ghadi choomana chahata hain"
Think of censors of those days and these "Murder" days ....
