Growing up as a school leaver /college student during the days when western bhangra bands was the rage amongst teenagers and students was a era that one can only cherish......everyone used to pack the stores to buy the latest cassettes....i remember i used to go crazy spending my part time earnings and even sometimes my student grant on bhangra back in them days.....anyway recently i was just going through a box of cassettes and looking at some tapes i brought in the very late 80's and early part of the 90's....the big bands are still popular today.....Bands like Heera, Holle Holle, Alaap, Apna Sangeet, Pardesi, DCS, Azaad, Chirag Pehchan, Golden Star, Sahotas, Premi, Achanak, Safri, just to name a few are still popular today......medium bands which were big in it's time suchas Geet, Kala Preet, Sat Rang, Shaan, Paras, Ajuba, Havana, Eshara, Anakhi, Saqi, Roshney, Anamikka, XLNC, Shaktee, and so on....then you have the next lot of bands which some people vaguely remember and some that you totally forgot about suchas Andaz, Dosti, Ace, Sabras, Lohar Group, Akaash.....alot of these bands were the making of UK Bhangra....many bands followed from here.
We must salute our original Bhajungy Group & Anari Sangeet Group for being one of the first to bring North Indian Punjabi music to the UK.

This write up according to my experience

Lovely remembrance Ant bhai. They still rule today, the 80s classics are still being remade. Even during the 70s and 80s the same song would be done countless times, Bhabhiye Akh Larr Gayee - versions by Bhujangy, TSB, The New Pardesi Music Machine, Premi, and probably many more. New versions of Lus Lus Karde Ang by Anari Sangeet are still being released as late as 2 months ago on DJ Kunal's Mix Tape. Gur Nalon Ishq Mitha - same deal. I've gotten back into it heavily thanks to a friend from another board, and have been enjoying it much.
