In a recent post, mainvisuri uploaded the entire Legends collection of Asha Bhosale issued by HMV a few years ago...

http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?s=&a...st&p=290428

The Legends Series is a veritable must-have for anyone that wants an excellent sample of Asha Bhosale's work in the last 5 decades. The only problem is that the series mostly confines itself to her relatively "famous" songs. As we all know, Asha has done some great work in unknown films and lesser known albums that is no less compelling than her more famous tracks.

Which leads us to the purpose of this thread, a challenge for the "educated" AB fans of this forum. What songs not included in this collection do you want to see in a Legends Series-Part II, and why?

Here are the rules of the game:

1. You can only list solos (since the original Legends-I is only limited to solos-- may be we'll start another set for duets etc. later).

2. You cannot repeat tracks included in legends- I (check the link above for the album listing).

3. We will continue the thread till we have 100 tracks, which I will then dutifully publish on this forum. I will also upload the "HAMARAFORUMS Asha LEGENDS-II" collection in complete mp3 form at that time. And may be someone from HMV will take note and make the gems accessible to the entire world by converting them to a legends-2 of their own! rolleyes.gif

To make the process more tractable, Legends-II is divided into 5 CDs, each 20 tracks, categorized as follows. I will keep updating this section as people propose new songs. To make the process interesting, dont just mention names of random tracks. Tell us why you think they should be included in a set that showcases Asha's best work. Ok, here goes.

A simple suggestion. The listing can be moved to another thread - giving a suitable title to the CD., it will be lost in the already released CD series title given here! Moderator plz consider and do the needful.

N
Talaikya
I forgot one of my favorites -

Nikle the kahan jaane ke liye, Bahu Begum
Priya
Good suggestion, Nimz. We can continue our compilations here. smile1.gif
Nimii
Priya, thanks for heeding to my suggestion!

N
Talaikya
Yes, this is good indeed, but now I gotta hunt for the other topic to make sure the songs I list here aren't there!

So, what's the balance now Manoneet ji?
Nimii
Ailaa why you worry Tji, Manoneet is updating the list and he would avoid the repeats. So many of us are here to help out! All the same, here is the link for you to click and open on a new tab.

Songs not to be added to the list

Nimmi,

Thanks so much for branching this thread. Main yeh karne ka soch hi raha tha. smile1.gif

Ok guys, check out POST #1 for (modified) details of this thread. And lets continue the list making!
Nimii
Great Manoneet, in fact I was thinking of suggesting that too you. May be the not to be included songs list - link can be included in the same post. Juz a thought that occurred to me.

Feel free to do as you think it is best for all smile.gif

My list here. I will keep updating this list and note the date of the last update. I urge other folks to do something similar (makes it easier for me to track :-)). Also, dont just toss out song names, tell us WHY the song is a good inclusion.

1. Tarun aahe ratra ajuni
Legends-1 samples none of Asha's regional work. In my mind this is a critical omission. Im somewhat split between this beautiful number and Hridaynath's other masterpiece, Jivalaga. Asha's mastery of the high notes dazzles in both songs.

2. Ambar ki ek paak suraahi

Because only asha's voice could have brought such dignity to Amrita Pritam's poetry, and done justice to Ali Akbar Khan's superlative composition. A very hard song to sing because of its unusual meter.

3. Jab raat ki tanhai dil ban ke utarti hai
Asha's love for ghazals is well-known, and Enchantress presents niyat-e-shaq from kashish and ? from Meraj as samples from her ghazal work. This lesser known piece from Hariharan's album (Abshar-e-ghazal) is just as deserving as those tracks. Her vocal modulation and expression of the words are spectacular.

4. Raatein jagake, sapne sajake
I love the way this relatively unknown compsition by N. Datta (lyrics: Sahir, film: Marine Drive) starts with a mellow refrain:
"dil bhi mit jaaye to ulfat dil se jaati nahin
zindagi teri amaanat hai, zamane ki nahin"
and then suddenly changes in tempo, with an unexpected twist of tone across the first 2 lines. Asha proves the stuff she was made of in this pre-OPN era track (this was 1955).

5. Chanda re, chanda re chhupe rehna
This simple lori should find a place in any list of the greatest loris ever recorded on film, in my mind it is up there with "soja rajkumari" or "dheere se jaana re". Asha's child-like innocence shines though in the rendition, giving the track a strange sweetness and poignancy.

6. Dil jalon ka, dil jalake
Not as well known as Kalyanji-Anandji's "yeh mera dil", this track from the 1973 by the same composers was a forbearer of the punch and spike that Asha would bring to this type of music. A very entertaining tune and Asha's forte.

7. Dekho bijli dole bin badal ke
OPN breaks from his usual horsey beats to compose a classical piece in the 1963 "Phir wohi dil laya hoon". Asha breezes through the song and demonstrates her flawless classical prowess.

8. Man anand anand chhayo
Before Satyasheel Deshpande and Asha paired up in the well-known "jhoothe naina bole" in Lekin, they performed together on this track from Vijeta. Vanraj Bhatia's music is minimalistic and Asha performs more like a pure hindustani vocalist, with little musical accompaniment. One again she more than matches up with the professional vocalist (Deshpande) who gives her company.

Harjinder
Hi
' Hai yeh wohi aasman aur hai wohi zameen' from Char Chand should be included in one of the CD's.Harjinder
bigger_than_bollywood
If you dont find your track incliuded in the master list on page 1, it is because

- you nominated a track already included in HMV's set (check the link in post 1)
- you nominated a duet (we are mostly dealing with solos here) OR
most commonly
- you mentioned a song name without (at the very least) naming the MD and album/year. angry.gif

Also, enlightened readers will notice that the list is strong on "oldie" tracks but weak to non-existent in other genres and regional work. The HF mindset of being stuck in a time bubble comes through. tongue1.gif
august
