The song is sung by Asha ji and not Geeta ji.
hey parag hows it going yaar just wondering if u like uma devi i had a cd it was very rare i had given it to one of my frend to copy and he said he can,t find. its amazing yaar geeta dutt is excellent but how can we preserve these old singers, i have to be honest even my father dont listen to old music, he was a big fan of asha and rafi now wen i make cds for him he dont care. he watches and listen to the new songs, i can,t even believe that he would suggest himself to this new movies. i think old movies are the best and geeta dutt, there is not enough words to describe her sweet voice. take care
Hi Shazaad, many thanks for writting in. I am also a big fan of old songs from late 40's and fifties. My favorite singers are of course Geeta ji and Lata ji (only songs from 40's and 50's), Mohd Rafi sahab, Suraiyya, Talat Mehmood and many more forgotten voices of the golden era.
I have listened to a few songs of Uma devi (who later became the film actress Tun Tun), Kanan Devi and Rajkumari. I have been immensely enjoying the music from the golden era.
I think its very difficult to preserve these sweet melodies in this time. Still there are places like HF and special websites dedicated to singers like Rafi sahab, Kishoreda and Asha ji. I believe there was some disucssion some time back about building a web site in the honour of Noor Jehan ji.
The domain name www.geetadutt.com has been reserved and currently it points to Geeta Dutt forum on HF.
Its indeed sad that this forum came to the homepage only last year November (where as HF is almost 4 years old now). Hopefully we will get more and more members to contribute and initiate disucssions here.
In last 11 months of my stay here at HF, I have seen some members taking interest for some time and then there is a quietness. Many senior members and great collectors have contributed and have been contributing lovely songs of Geeta ji. There are many instances where I have not even heard about a song before but simply fell in love with the song. The song "Raat mohe meetha meetha sapna aaya re" from the movie Tamasha is one such an example.
Cheers
