Actress Sharmila Tagore debuted in a Bengali film and went on to become a Bollywood legend. Now her daughter, Soha Ali, is all set to follow in her footsteps.

Soha's first film in Bengali hit the screens in Kolkata today. And crowds gathered outside the city's Priya cinema to catch a glimpse of the mother and daughter duo.
Soha's film premiere comes 45 years after her mother lit up the silver screen.
The star daughter plays the role of Kamal Lata, one of three main characters in Iti Srikanta. The film is based on a novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, who is also the author of Devdas. Kamal Lata is an unwed mother, whose child dies. She becomes a recluse and is unwittingly drawn into a love triangle. And it was a complex role indeed for a debutante. Star sons have been known to shine before. And it now appears to be the turn of a star daughter to take centre stage.

Soha has completed her first film, which is in Bengali titled Iti Shrikanto. She is currently working on Ananth Mahadevan’s Dil Maange More opposite Shahid Kapur. Also she has recently signed a Bengali film opposite Abhishek Bachchan to be directed by Rituparno Ghosh. Incidentally this happens simultaneously when their predecessors – Amitabh Bachchan and Sharmila Tagore are coming together in a film titled Versus/Virudh by Mahesh Manjrekar after almost two decades.
