I have heard this song ever so often, but it had never registered that it is a duet! The CD insert also lists it as a NJ solo. On listening to it closely, however, I do hear a different female voice reciting the first line of each antaraa once before NJ takes over. I don't think I hear her voice anywhere else in the song, except perhaps toward the end when I *seem* to hear two voices singing together but am not sure any more.

Can anyone with a keener ear than mine please do a line-to-singer mapping?

Hello Abhay,
Their voices are quite distinct. Najma Niazi starts the song and sings all the way upto (Noor Jehan joins in much later) - see below. Most of the song is sung by Najma Niazi. I dont have the exact lyrics of this song, if you can post it, I will tell you who sang what. I haven't seen the film, but it looks like some dance competition is going on between Noor Jehan and some side actress (probably Bano Begum).

As for as 'Taskeen ko hum na roein...' is concerned, you are absolutely correct, Najma Niazi starts the song and Noor Jehan joins in from "Tujhse tou kuchh kalaam nahiin....".

As for as the Chhu Mantar song is concerned, I guess it is Zubeda Khanam with NJ. Can't you recognise Zubeda's voice? (as she is your favorite singer!!! )

No I cant, as the song is on VCD and it is little distorted. I can't be 100% sure that it is Zubaida. If you have clear version, I would recognize.

Hearing it again I am pretty sure it is NOT Zubeida Khanum, like Inaam Bhai I didn't give it another thought and assumed it would Zubeida Khanum as she also has some solos in the film. I suspect it might be Irene or Kausar Parveen - I haven't heard enough of their songs to be able to distinguish between their voices.

I checked the film credits for a clue but they haven't listed the playback singers so not sure really.

I'm sure Inaam bhai would be able to work out who the mystery singer is
