Thank you Priya. You had mentioned that both of these songs
were available on CD in India. Can you mention the name of
the CD??? Perhaps I can inaugurate my NoorjehaN CD collection
with this one, on my next India trip.
Inaam
SB Dear smile1.gif Ye chori chori NJ Forum mein aana aur chupkey chupkey chaley jaana achha nahiin --- share your thoughts and opinions about the songs with all of us please smile.gif

Priya
SB ka dil naghmon se bhar gaya, Inaam, par woh zubaan par nahin aate!!!! laugh.gif

This is the cd I mentioned. But turns out it is Magnasound. From what I hear, the company is bust. U might have heard of Asha's case against them which she won--they owed her several lakhs in royalty which they did not pay claiming to be bankrupt!!!

U can also look for Tips cds released acoording to their whims as 'Melodies' and 'Memories', all with the same tracks!!!! mad.gif

U may find the odd ghazal cd where her voice will be older--but nothing like those Tarannum ghazals!!!! :swoon:

To say that I am a newcomer wrt NoorjehaN's music is an understatement.
The only reason I got into her songs was thanx to Priya. In her inimitable
style, she was so passionate about NJ, that I got pulled in to see who this
other singer that had captured the Asha devotee's heart.
I had heard NJ's earlier songs i.e. before she went to Pakistan and her
style did not appeal to my tastes. She had a heavier voice, while I had
been raised on a thinner diet of the Maharashtrian variety biggrin.gif
However, on listening to her music from the 50s (and Priya's HF radio
presentation was a big help in this), I realized that a lot of NJ's style in
INdia was connected to the style of the composers at the time. Music
styles changed with time even in Pakistan and she had some gorgeous
songs in the 50s. The voice mellowed and sweetened, losing some of its
harsher edges.
And so I discovered beautiful songs like "Ab yahaaN koi nahi koi nahi aayega"
and "Dil ke afsaane zubaanoN tak aa pahunchi" from "Baaji" and the lovely
"Dil ka diya jalaaya maine" (for which I don't know the film or any other info),
and "Kaisa naseeb laayi thhi" (from "Jaan-e-bahaar").
There were other songs that caught my attention, but I don't remember them
cause I am still not comfortable with her music.
Her later work does not appeal to me at all, certainly not anything in the 80s
that I have heard. It lacks the finesse that I like. And the PUnjabi side of
it is also not to my interest although there are some songs that I have liked.
All in all, I have only been exposed to a small subset of her work. So I
don't have opinions. I need to Doobo in her music a lot more to get there,
the way it is with Hindi Film music.

Aapne sawaal kiya to maine bata di.

Priya
Dil ka diya jalaya is from Koel, SB. Music by the incredible Khurshid Anwarsaab.
Priya
Inaam, what happened to Ur next program which Shivani was planning to DJ? We must do a show together--only aapki Urdu and my Hindi--will sound like a shayar compering with a fisherwoman!!!! rollf.gif

As a diehard fan, I like almost every song of her, but I believe, in 50s & 60s, she was at her best. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. I can upload some gems from 50 & 60s for you if you like. smile.gif

Yes Priya is right. She sang some great Punjabi songs in 50s especially in Nooran, Patey Khan and Chanwey. You should listen to them.

I have never seen a devoted fan like Priya. She is really promoting NJ music. tongue1.gif

Yeah, Priya. Me and Kamal had a discussion on 80s music long time ago on SKS. Film Music touched its lowest peak in 80s both in india and pakistan. The only Indian song which I remember from the 80s is "Sun sahiba sun, pyar ki dhun" which was a mega hit.

Also there were lots of "hot/vulgar" songs sung in the 80s in Indian films tongue1.gif . If i start compiling a list of hot songs sung in this period in indian/pakistani films, it will take a while to accomplish this task... tongue1.gif

Ummer.
Priya
I think from 80s we sunk even lower in the 90s. Then things improved a lil--verrrrry little. sad1.gif

The one reason I listen to 80s is during that time, RDB gave some quality songs to Asha, albeit for offbeat unheard films. But semiclassical and such songs. Then we have the non-film ghazal and geet albums.
For Madam, Tarannum. Why does not someone release a dvd set--the Complete Tarannum? cry.gif

This song "jawani meri" dont have catchy tune. But "Neeli neeli ankhien meri" has catchy tune. I think the tune is inspired by music composer Wajahat Attre dad's Rashid Attre superhit song from Salma "Onchi Neechi Rahoun mein payal meri thumke".

It is a surprise that film had lots of superhit numbers including NJ "zindagi hai yah kisi ta intezar", but the song "oonchi neechi rahoun mein" was the most hit song from this soundtrack.

Ummer.
Inaam
Ummer! I am very confused, You always mention this song --- aaj sach sach bataao, Do you really like 'Neeli neeli aankhein..' or just making fun?
Ummer
Hello Inaam,
The real answer is ... actually it is a lil bit of both. I REALLY like this song and tune. However, at the same time it looks like the lyrics are written by some 10 year old. This song has become a "guilty pleasure" of mine. It is one of those songs which U dont wanna admit that you listen to, but U DO.

If i just had to make fun then there r tons of naughty NJ songs to choose from, many more vulgar than this. But somehow this song has sticked to my mind for some unknown reason for the last 1 year, i dont know why. You must be thinking I am weird huh? tongue1.gif

Hello Priya,

I LOVE all the songs punjabi songs you mentioned and the tunes of many of these have been copied in Indian Punjabi/Hindi movies. But I think they are from the 70s, not 80s especially "jadoun holi je lainda mera naa"

The cd I have as usual has no info whatsoever about film name or year or md. angry2.gif

I think once U told me that most cds in Pakistan are that way? Or is it only the few that are released in India?
