She might have been named alongside Peter Jackson, Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn as among the 100 most influential people in Time magazine, but Aishwarya Rai is unwanted in an upcoming Hollywood film.
The Paramount Pictures feature will have an Indian actor to play the lead role opposite Brad Pitt.
Bollywood baddie Gulshan Grover, who has been asked by Paramount to scout a Bollywood actor, says ?it will be the biggest role in an international project for an Indian actress.?
But Grover has been told the company doesn?t want Rai. ?I didn?t bother to ask them why,? he says, adding his conjecture is they possibly wanted someone who has not done any work in Hollywood or is not heard of. ?I personally believe Aishwarya is a good actor,? he says.
Grover says his brief is to find someone beautiful, with Indian looks. She should be a good actor, should speak good English and have a face and personality that would appeal to a Western audience too.
The film, to begin early next year, will be shot partly in India. The director isn?t finalised yet. Grover will also act in it. The celebrated Bollywood villain was roped in to for the hunt because of his earlier experience of working in Hollywood.
Grover?s first big international break came with The Second Jungle Book: Mowgli and Baloo , in which he played Mowgli?s wicked uncle Buldeo.
Grover will also be seen in Ashes to Ashes, produced and directed by Oscar-winning Goldie Hawn; Tarsem Singh?s The Fall ; and action thriller In the Shadow of The Cobra , which is reportedly stuck due to some legalities.
Aishwarya Rai?s diary is also full with international features ? Gurinder Chaddha?s Bride and Prejudice , to open this year; French director Coline Serreau?s Chaos alongside Meryl Streep; period drama Singularity , to be directed by Roland Joffe ( City of Joy ) and three more films.
