Dear music lovers,
In the early 1950s, Radio Ceylon was the station to listen to if you liked film music. And in all those unforgettable programmes, a pride of place was granted to the Lata songs for C.Ramchandra. We all used to sit glued to the radio whenever there was a mention of this combination. No other singer-music director combination has ever evoked the kind of love and admiration that this combination did.
In memory of this wonderful partnership, I begin this series of some personal favourites from my music collection. If anyone else here can contribute as well (either in terms of anecdotes or songs), it would be wonderful !
My first upload here is my pick from their most well-remembered film, "Anarkali". Even at that time, when "Mohobbat me aise kadam dagmagaye" and "Yeh zindagi usi ki hai" was hogging all popularity, this was the song that immediately made its way into my heart. I always feel a lump when I hear this song "O aasmaan wale shikwa hai zindagi ka". The part where Lata sings "tu dekhta rahe aur duniya hame saza de" is so deeply moving.
Hope you enjoy this song too.
Regards,
Shriram
