Dear music lovers,
In the early 1950s, Radio Ceylon was the station to listen to if you liked film music. And in all those unforgettable programmes, a pride of place was granted to the Lata songs for C.Ramchandra. We all used to sit glued to the radio whenever there was a mention of this combination. No other singer-music director combination has ever evoked the kind of love and admiration that this combination did.

In memory of this wonderful partnership, I begin this series of some personal favourites from my music collection. If anyone else here can contribute as well (either in terms of anecdotes or songs), it would be wonderful !

My first upload here is my pick from their most well-remembered film, "Anarkali". Even at that time, when "Mohobbat me aise kadam dagmagaye" and "Yeh zindagi usi ki hai" was hogging all popularity, this was the song that immediately made its way into my heart. I always feel a lump when I hear this song "O aasmaan wale shikwa hai zindagi ka". The part where Lata sings "tu dekhta rahe aur duniya hame saza de" is so deeply moving.

Hope you enjoy this song too.

Regards,
Shriram

Next in the series of Lata and C.Ramchandra songs is this wondrous melody from "Jhanjhar" which was released in 1953 if I remember right. This was another outstanding soundtrack from CR. This was indeed the golden phase for him. The film had many outstanding songs.

- Ja re ja ja nindiyaa ja (Lata/Madhubala Jhaveri - a lori)
- Mohe lage sara jag (Lata - a rock-roll type of song)
- Ae pyar teri duniya se (Lata - pathos)

So there was a song for all moods. But "Ched gayo mohe" is the best of the songs in my opinion. Simple and elegant.

Hope you enjoy this great song.

Regards,
Shriram

Dear Sir,
I am afraid I am rather a novice in these terminologies. Could you pl let me know what you mean by CDQ here ?

Next, is this delightful piece from "Sangraam" - a Ashok Kumar-Nalini Jaywant starrer. The couple were the hottest in town in that period. And Ashok Kumar enacts a villainish role here with aplomb. The film is most remembered for the swimming suit that Nalini Jaywant wore in the "Ulfat ki jadu ka" duet !!

Anyway, this song appears when Ashok Kumar escaps from the police by taking shelter in Nalini's car. It starts raining and Nalini breaks into this lovely number rendered very sweetly by Lata.

Shriram

CDQ - CD quality.
The song you uploaded was 16 kbps, 11 kHz, mono
CDQ would be at least 128 kbps, 44 kHz stereo.
(How did you create the digital song? If you ripped (extracted) the song from your CD, u could set these values in the ripping software

Here is your upload from sangram in CDQ biggrin.gif (I think I have it thanks to HF)

and thanks for adding movie context to the song uploads!
