hello friends,
geetaji in her early career worked a lot with music directors of punjabi origin like ghulam haider,husnlal bhagatram,shiv dayal batish,khayyam,s mohinder,sardul kwatra and hansraj behl.about a couple of months back mahesh sharmaji had mentioned in one of his post about her suitability for punjabi compositions.
she has sung for only one punjabi film lacchi[ and that too a hindi/urdu song].she has sung two shabads also for s mohinder.
many music directors have used the punjabiness of this bengali lady's voice quite effectively.
i will be uploading some of these songs in this thread.if someone has similar songs of geetaji,pl. upload in this thread.
the first song is a punjabi song from the film heer ranjha[1948].music is by vermaji and sharmaji[khayyam] and lyrics are by wali sahab.

28 downloads and only mahesh sharmaji responded.one feels disheartened when there is no response to even very rare songs.
chalo koi baat nahin,ek aur rare song ul karke dekh lete hain.
here is one of my favourite songs based on a punjabi folk tune -''mere jaisi nahin milegi bholi bhali naar'' sung by geetaji along with rafi sahab and ram kamlani.khayyam sahab used the same tune for lataji's barood classic ''rang rangeela sanwra mohe mil gaya jamuna paar''.
if lataji was all sweetness in the barood song,geetaji is all masti here.

music is by hansraj behl and lyrics are by dina nath madhok.film as i mentioned in my last post is khamosh sipahi[1950].
