sudhiir phaDake is very particular to pronounce these two as differently as possible. listen to the song aakaashii jhep ge re paakharaa . The first sh in aakaashii is the soft one and later in the song around 1:50 comes the line
ghar kasale hii tar kaaraa
vishh samaan motii-chaaraa

the shh in vishh is the harsher shh
