This one just blows my mind....every time I listen to it. What a fantastic song !!! Don't know whether to admire the faultless composition...or the effortless singing......but it's one real 'perfect' song !! Can never get tired of listening to this one....and often, after this song, i shut down my music because I want this song to keep humming inside my head for some more time!!!

Venkat - yes - that's a lovely song......like the other 'pesh karoon' songs in the film - there were 3 of them !!
1. Rang aur noor ki baaraat kise pesh karoon - Rafi
2. Ishq ki garmi-e-jazbaat kise pesh karoon - Rafi
3. Naghma-o-sher ki sougaat kise pesh karoon - Lata

I skipped the film Gazal while going down the songlist of the radio program - since I was looking only at the 'requests' list.....thanks for bringing up the topic ! It stands out as a memorable (but rare) partnership of Sahir Ludhianvi and Madan Mohan.

For the radio program, I selected only one of the 'pesh karoon' songs due to lack of time (the better known, Rang aur noor)...and two other songs -
'Mujhe yeh phool na de' sung by Rafi and Suman - a relatively rare one, and
'Dil khush hai aaj unse' by Rafi - which I like a lot

In addition to these, there are two other songs -both classical type songs :
- Ada qaatil nazar barke bala, by Asha
- Unse nazren mili aur hijaab aa gaya, by Lata and Minoo Purshottam

Again special thanks for this extended version which had extra third stanza around 4 minutes and the movie VCD has only 3-10 minutes track same as record version. This is by far the best version of this beautiful song and never heard before. I think its only the VCD and DVD wallahs deleting songs/song stanzas to fit into the CD time slot. BTW this song was uploaded quite a few times at HF and various forums but never this extended version. Also the speed (pitch) of this version is perfecta & its exactly what it should be which I could never find in the 78 rpm version or the VCD version.

Some good news for you !!

Since you were so happy with the longer version of 'Ek baat poochti hoon' ....I was just reconfirming it for myself...when I discovered something else !! The actual track is 4:22 mins long. I had edited out a little of the initial music when compiling it for my radio program - to fit it into the time available.

Over the weekend, I had a chance to listen to Manna Dey at a live concert here. He didnt speak much about other music directors...but had some special words for Madan Mohan which I am reproducing here :

Manna Dey :

" I'll sing a number written by Rajinder Krishen saheb and tuned
by Madan Mohan.

Madan Mohan was a very dear friend of mine and....
I hold him in great esteem as a music director, as a music
maker......and I have always felt that he didn't get his due.

But then, the fact is, he was a cut above the class."


Then, he proceeded to sing 'Kaun aaya mere man ke dware'. It was an enjoyable evening of nostalgia - he sang for 3 hours !! Couldn't believe he is 86 years old....and still able to sing at a public concert. Of course, his voice isn't the same anymore.......but there was enough ....to remind us of the days of unsurpassed glory .......when even a great singer like him could be overshadowed by others.
