Ummer
Hello,
I am uploading 3 of my favorite songs from the Pakistani Film Kartar Singh (1959).

Kartar Singh, written/directed and produced by Saifudin Saif is an all-time classic and to this day remains one of the best films of Pakistan. The film is different from the bunch of other films made on the topic of Partition in India/Pakistan (which usually show only one side as the evil villain and other side as the innocent sufferer). The story of Kartar Singh revolves around the small borough of Punjab where Punjabi Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs live in genuine harmony and the effect of partition on such village.

Dharmji, my songs are filmtrack versions recorded straight from the film (I have some of these songs on cassettes in very good quality but they are in Jhankar mode) sad1.gif . If your version is better, please upload them wink2.gif

My most favorite song from this film.

Peri bairiyan paazeban diyan paa kai (Singers = Zubaida Khanum, Naseem Begum)

I love Zubeda's voice. Her voice is very different, thinner and sweeter than many other punjabi singers of her time like Naseem begum, Noor Jehan, Shamshad Begum, Surinder Kaur, Prakash Kaur. Thats why she was Number One playback singer in the 50s.

This song was picturized on Bahaar (left) and Mussarat Nazir (right).

Desan da raja meray babul da pyara (Singer :- Naseem Begum and chorus). This song is one of the most famous bidai song in Pakistan (just like Shamshad Begum's Chod babul ka ghar from Babul).

It was picturized on Laila (muslim girl who is stranded in East Punjab and is dreaming about the marriage of her brother).

Gori gori chandini (Singer :- Zubaida Khanum). The song begins with piano playing in the beginning (a rare thing in punjabi songs).

It was picturized on Mussarat Nazir.

Hello Ashish,
Yeah they are the same person. She was the most popular heroine of the 50's, early 60's (along with Sabiha Khanum). Her most popular film is Shaheed (1962), where she plays Arab prostitute and songs were penned by Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

In Punjabi films she made very strong pair with Sudhir and her film Yakke Wali earned so much profit that Bari studios was built on the profit of that film. She was also one of the few educated girlz who joined film industry (she was NOT from Heera Mandi).

In the 1980's she made her comeback as a TV singer, she also sang for few films. Now she lives with her husband in Canada.

Thanks a lot Ummer

I was confused as I thought that why she did not playback for her in kartar singh
is it that she did playback only in 80's not before???
also I have read that she rose to height with punjabi number "mera laung gawacha " and madam noorjehan came with another song with same tune ????

warm regards
