I just was thinking about my school days and realized how some of the poems we learned as kids could never be forgotten.
Two of them that come to might right now...
ugey chhe surakhi bharyo ravi mrudu, hemant no purva maa
bhuru chhe nabh swacchh swacchh disati eke nathi vaadali
I dont recall the title of this.
Another one is "Meethi maathe bhaat" - which was a story of a little girl named Meethi who goes to farm with food (rice) for her father and is attacked by a lion/tiger on her way and gets hurt.
dungar keri kheeN ma gaambhu naame gaam
kheti karto khant thi patel paancho naam
bhoy badhi bhagri hati vaaDi ek vishaal...
My mind runs all blank now. Any one who can recall more of it?

I am not sure if this was in school or not but it's very touchy.
Kaalidas writes when Shankuntala leaves for her husbands home? I dont remember the story, if someone wants to shed some light on it. thanks.
aaje jaay Shakuntala pati gruhe bechain haiyu bane

"aaje vasant panchmi che" .. (where the poet is reminded of the day when a koyal tahuke che.. or something similar)
and
"junu ghar khaali kartaa" (where a person's "duvidha" and distress is shown when he moves houses, parting from his memories)

Nope, did my schooling in Guj medium from 5th - 12th. I was talking about Gujarati poetry.

Btw, I was also educated in West for a little bit - 12th only*
* that was 12th again just cuz school was close by and college was too far.

I was born in Kenya and studied there during colonial times. So we were allowed to study "vernacular" as second language (today everybody must study Swahili, which is the way it should be).
My vernacular was Gujarati and so I studied Gujarati until Cambridge Overseas Certificate (equivalent to Metriculation in India or GCSE in UK).
I left Kenya long time back and so obviously left all my school books there, except I have one Gujarati Sahitya Pravesh vol 2. (It reads paheli shreeni, pushtak biju - which I suppose is vol 1 book 2).
It is one of my most beloved possesion. All the pages have turned yellow and it is held together with sellotape.
I will put up some images from it and hope that it will help some people to relive the nostalgia from their school days.

Hi everyone!
I am interested in learning Gujarati and practicing English. My husband is from Gujarat and we have kids.I know Gujarati toru-toru from the book 'Gujarati in 30 days'. Also I want to find a children's poetry in Gujarati ( nursery rhymes , school poetry etc).
Happy to find you!
