A Rafi-Suman duet that I used to like very much in those days - from the film BEDAAG released in 1965

"Maine ai jaan-e-wafa tumse mohabbat ki hai
Tumne ek dard mujhe deke qayamat ki hai"

Beautiful music of ROSHAN - sounding a little Naushad-ish in parts - probably influenced by the lyrics of SHAKEEL BADAYUNI who was Naushad's steady partner( Roshan-Shakeel - quite a rare combination, i must say )

The film DAADI MAA (1966) had several nice songs of ROSHAN, with lyrics by MAJROOH. One such number sung by Lata Mangeshkar was :
Chale aaye re hum to chale aaye re, sabse bachake ankhiyan

Roshan's tunes have so much melody - listening to them gives us an idea of the amount of effort and inspiration that must have gone into each piece of work and they are also a reflection of the immense musical talent of this man.

As I mentioned during the chat session of the Madan Mohan Birthday Special Radio program....i was planning one on another favourite music director of mine - ROSHAN - on his birthday coming up shortly - on July 14th.

But HF Radio seems to have gone phut ?????? ....so i have stopped work on the selection for the Roshan program. Maybe I will just upload the songs in sequence here ...you can all download and listen at your own convenience !!!

Listener power increased to a new peak of 16 after the hack...but we still have some distance to go to catch up with past levels ( the Naushad program peaked at 28 listeners).

Had a great time on chat too....but sorely missed 2 of my 'regulars' on the chat accompanying the program!! Nimii and Unni. Hope to have both of them around at the next program ..whenever it is. Nimii had tuned in to the program - i know.......but there's been no sign of Unni - despite my several attempts to contact him.

I do hope Unni gets this message that he is being missed very badly here at HF !!

Here's a Filmfare article written at the time of Roshan's death in 1968. Can't recollect where I got it from.

One of the pics, a cute one, shows Roshan playing the harmonium along with his two young kids, Rajesh Roshan and Rakesh Roshan, who are seen playing the mandolin and dholak respectively.

What you are referring to ( Ye jhilmil ) is not really a proper stanza of the song. In the film, after the song ends, someone in the audience passes a comment about Raj Kapoor....and in reply, he sings this small snippet and walks away. It is there in the film soundtrack...

Lovely piano music characterises this song of Roshan......with the piano pieces blending in so well with the main tune, that it is difficult to think of this song without thinking of the piano parts. Talat Mahmood sings for Raj Kapoor....party scene, grand piano etc.with the heroine ( Nargis ) looking on.
