Thank you, Madhavi !
This one is a nice, lively number from Hrishikesh Mukherjee's film 'Mem-didi'...sung on-screen by a young and pretty Tanuja. There's also the typical Salil Chowdhury chorus - singing in harmony - accompanying Lata Mangeshkar.

Here is a relatively rare number from Ram aur Shyam (1967) - music of Naushad
Maine kab tumse kaha tha, Lata, Ram aur Shyam 1967, Naushad_Shakeel Badayuni, CD3:34 ; 128 kbps
The style is a little different from the traditional Naushad.....he had begun experimenting a bit during that period - moving out of his usual mould, now and then. This song, for example, does not have the earlier Naushad touches except in some places - thus making it not so easy to identify it as a Naushad composition just by listening to the first few lines of the song.
However, one characteristic nuance in his music - having different tunes for the different antaras (which I have discussed earlier on the Naushad forum), gives him away - the second antara in this song is different from the first and the third, and has different interlude music too !

A perfectly sweet, melodious and lovely song - sung by Lata and Hemant Kumar - this song was a rare composition for Hindi films by the famous composer duo
Viswanathan-Ramamoorthy, who were like the Shankar-Jaikishan of Tamil films - churning out a large number of popular hits, year after year.

Today, I somehow remembered this song.....and thought I should share it. Such a loveable song - pleasant, soothing, romantic, melodious and soft - from the great partnership of Lata Mangeshkar and music director C Ramchandra. The composer sings this duet with his favourite singer...and goes by his surname 'Chitalkar' as was his practice.
I simply love the 'mood' of this song !
Phir wohi chand wohi gham, Lata_Chitalkar, Baarish 1957, C Ramchandra_RajinderKrishan, CD3:22 ; 128 kbps
Many years later (7, to be precise) Rajinder Krishan would use the same mukhda (first line) with just one change - replacing the word 'chand' with the word 'shaam' - and we had that famous solo of Talat Mahmood from the film Jahan Ara - 'Phir wohi shaam wohi gham, wohi tanhaai hai' !

Million Thanks Sri for this excellent Janisar Akhtar-Lata-NDutta combo. Its really a crisp audio and now I can replace the CD version with this one. A real pity that HMV/RPG wallas are giving music lovers all worthless versions of the old songs , editing sound and degarading music quality when they can provide these film versions. I think there is no music lover now in HMV/RPG

You're welcome, Mohd - it;s only because of committed members like yourself who can appreciate going to any length to get a better quality version of a good song....that's it's worthwhile to upload such songs!!
HMV may suffer from a peculiar situation - they have the audio rights to the songs - but their own versions have been poorly stored and have degenerated - while some films have been preserved better by their producers. So, the film's soundtrack may have better audio quality, but that source is out of reach for HMV who do not own those rights. On the other hand, the producers may have a better audio version - but cannot release it because they do not hold the audio rights - which is why we are seeing 'video' releases rather than audio ones from their side.
We have to depend on members like ourselves to hunt through various sources and find the best available track. But many times, even after finding a track with decent sound quality, I feel that the songs that I heard in my younger days on the radio or on gramophone records were of better quality....I only hope that someone, someday will be able to re-master all these treasures and give us back the original sound quality !!

Thank you Sri... have been listening to the song... heavily influenced by your conjectures it does seem to have touches of RD but would never have guessed it by myself...

Just checked up on Jaidev too, his Joru Ka Bhai was released in 1955... so when did he stop being SDB's assistant? I know he was involved willingly or unwillingly in the Lata/SDB rift, so he must have been involved with SDB's albums later too.

Jaidev was associated with SDBurman till 1960 as far as i know - Manzil was probably his last one with SDB.
In 1961 he had his first hit - and whatta hit !! Hum dono - his 4th film and his best score. After that he must have been on his own - though it was definitely odd that he didn't get more films than he actually did - esp immediately after Hum dono. But then, that's life in film-land!

Sri bhai there was another great work of jaidev during the initial
years in 1963 release "Kinare Kinare".
SDB also had another good orchestrator/music arranger who was
not given much attention or recognition, though he was there with him
from Baazi days till 60s. If you see the records or the movies
Baazi and Pyasa, you will find his name as asstt. music director
or simply asstt. He was "Suharid Kar". A great arranger of his time.
Pancham and Jaidev in their interviews had taken his name many
times. In fact, pancham had said in an interview that SDB used to
make mukhdas and the antras were composed by Jaidev Verma (Jaidev)
and Suharid. Suharid Kar had also independently scored for the
hindi movie "Kanch ki gudiya" starring Manoj Kumar and Sayeeda Khan.
The best known duet of the movie was "saath ho tum aur raat jawaan"
sung by Mukesh and Asha.
Yes - very true Mahesh. Apart from Kinare kinare, Jaidev also had 'Mujhe jeene do' in 1963...but after that he didn't get much work, though he did a great job in these 2 films.
Suhrid Kar also assisted SDB in two other well known films - Munimji 1955 and Paying Guest 1957.
The song you mentioned from 'Kanch ki gudiya' 1961 (saath ho tum aur raat jawan), composed by Suhrid Kar is such a lovely number and was popular on the radio in those days !
